Cody getting tons of interest

The Sun-Sentinel's Juan C. Rodriguez says the Marlins are getting "tons of calls" on Cody Ross.

Whether it's the case or not, the Marlins surely would like to see teams step forward with their best offers. They're believed to be leaning towards keeping the outfielder, but things change. They'd insist on more in return for him than they received for Jorge Cantu.

I love Cody but man if we could rip some team off for some young talented major leaguer and a prospect.

Cody has been getting tons of interest, but I keep telling my fiancee that she's gonna have to move on and accept me for what I am, even though I could never be the man that Cody Ross is.

If we could get a steal of a "Can't Miss" Prospect for Cody then I'd actually be all for it.

I really, really love Cody but there are high chances he might not be here in 2012 or even 2011, if we can get a great deal for him then we should pull the trigger.

Sources report that Cody has been taken off the table. It seems the Marlins were willing to listen to offers, but weren't getting anything close to what they would consider moving Cody for at this time.

I would have hated to trade Cody, but if someone had been giving up a can't miss I would have been for it too. But barring that, I'm glad "CODY, CODY, CODY" will still be part of the Marlins family for at least through the deadline.

People forget, there are trades made in August too. The trading deadline is not an impregnable wall, and things still can happen for the next couple of weeks.

If none of the offers were really blowing the team away, then why bother trading him now, especially with Cogz now on the DL. I don't think many of us want to see Bonifacio in center everyday for the rest of the season.

I'd like to see Maybin get some starts so that the Marlins have a better idea of what he can do before the 2011 season. He has nothing else to learn in AAA and the Marlins need to know if he can play in the majors.

Maybin just came off the DL. Still needs a lot of starts to get back into the swing of things. Maybin only has 40 AB's in AAA due to spending so much time on the DL. Cody isn't expendable at the moment.

Maybin is running out of chances. Glad Cody is staying for time being. Can Cogs play Cf? If not, his only spot on team is 3rd. Unless if uggla foes or moves to third

He does have things he can learn in AAA but he hasn't done a good job of learning them. The Marlins need to work on his swing and he needs to get better at pitch recognition and actually hitting breaking balls. We've already burned his last option year, and we might as well keep him down in AAA and try to get him to focus on these things and not on just hitting an empty .300 down there that won't translate to the majors.

Well noting that Maybin has only played basically a combine half of an MLB season in both 09 and this season with only 400 combined PA's in those times and that he's still 23 year's old with potential, I'd say he has plenty of chances left until we give up on him.

I think they give him a long look next year at the ML level and it's sink or swim for him.

The way I see it, he won't or really shouldn't be up here this season until September if anything.

Then he's put on the 40 man roster weather Cody is still here or not and pending on the situation most likely he'll start in NOLA and hopefully do well until we finally need him and he can come up and produce.

If he's not producing at all by midway through 2011 or 2012 then I'd probably give up on him and try to trade him while he's still young and has value.

5:05pm: Executives of one team heard that they could acquire Ross for the right offer, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The Braves and Red Sox have interest in Ross and could acquire the outfielder for the right price, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.

I f***ing hate rumors....

For a team with less than a 5% chance to make the playoffs, he's absolutely expendable.

It doesn't matter if Maybin just came off of the DL. He's playing somewhere. Morrison has been ailing much of the season too and the Marlins just promoted him to play a position that he has very little experience playing.

I'm sorry, but it's a cop out, to say that Maybin can't be playing CF tonight until the end of the season or until he gets hurt again.

The Marlins are in a position right now where it doesn't hurt them to have Maybin working things out. He's not in AAA because he still has a lot to learn there.

This is a highly valued prospect with a lot of potential we are talking about. The Marlins need him to be getting as many major league at bats as possible before he goes the way of Jeremy Hermida.

The Marlins actually believe that Morrison can be effective in the majors right now, Maybin not so much. Besides, its not hurting Maybin to work on things in the minors that will help him later on in the majors. Soon he won't have a chance to work on things against lesser pitching.
