what does market have to do with anything?

Good question.:headscratch

I liked VT's uniforms too. That late hit call was BS. The guy was just barely still in bounds if not just just going out when the VT guy hit him. I don't agree with a couple of the running into/ roughing the kicker penalties either.

So I guess the 'Canes will be 9th or 10th when the polls come out tomorrow.

Boise's defense is really impressing me. Tons of pressure, and their special teams blocking that punt was awesome as well.

If only Boise could move to the Pac 10 or something.., it's not fair for them to beat one team ranked 10th, and then face a bunch of teams ranked 60th and worse for the rest of the season all the way to the national championship (although I have a suspicion that as the season goes on, the writers won't give Boise any respect and they will be on their way to another Fiesta Bowl).

No matter how good they are, Boise will never be a big enough market to be in a BCS conference.

When we finally get rid of the BCS and start having an 8 or 12 team playoff, they will start getting some more attention.

Just add a plus one. No need for playoffs.

It's more of an issue of student body size and the size of the stadium more than market size. Also endowment, AAU membership, research-based university, etc are huge factors when bringing in a school to a conference.

Look no further than Iowa.. one of the smallest possible markets but it has a student body of 30K, has a 70K capacity stadium, an endowment of nearly 1 billion dollars, is a huge research based school with AAU membership.

Boise on the other hand has a student body size of 18k, a stadium that seats 33K, an endowment of 83 milliion and is not an affiliate of the AAU or URA.

BYU would have been a good fit but with their following, they will thrive in as an independent. Huge school, big stadium and their own TV network etc.

There was talk of TCU joining the Big XII.. I have a hard time seeing them join with a student body size of 8K. But then again, if U of Texas wants them in, they're in because they call the shots.

12th

If the Canes can go into Ohio State and win, they'll be a top 5 team next week. I hope UM and FSU win on saturday so that the UM vs FSU game will have some meaning Oct 9th. The game has been crap the past 4-5 years.

Oh yeah, definitely...it's been awhile since Miami had such a big hype game like this. Last year's VT game was big but Miami was still unknown on how good they really were. The last huge game I can remember was the VT game in '05 where both teams were in the top 5...hope the result can be the same Saturday.

One change I would make to the BCS Championship game is that in order to play in the game your strengh of schedule has to be in the top 50% of Division 1 (or whatever they call it now). So for example last year Boise State had the 96th strongest schedule so they couldn't play in the game. This would prevent teams in crap conferences with weak schedules from playing in the championship game and would also encourage teams from the BCS conferences to play better non-conference schadules. Last year PSU had the 73 strongest schedule so with this rule they couldn't play in the championship game even if they had gone undefeated and were ranked No. 1.

To clarify, by Boise I meant BSU, not the city of Boise, Idaho.

Conferences would still rather take a decent team with a large fan base than a team with a smaller fan base that is currently on a hot streak that probably won't last that much longer.

That wouldnt work. Teams schedule opponents years in advance so you dont know how good they will be when the schedule is made. So for example anyone who had scheduled Michigan the past few years thought they were going to be playing a good team. Should they get penalized because Michigan stunk?

Im surprised that ESPN is covering this tailgating mess in iowa city but im glad they are. hopefully it will get this lady to ease up ton the new restrictions. its ridiculous. Let us have our fun you nazis!

Iowa City was a GREAT tailgating spot. Now they kick you out an hour after the game, which in essence, puts more drunks on the road. Tons more OWI checkpoints.. which i dont have a problem with. Tickets for open containers unless you are in a designated tailgating zone.. which is ridiculous, because kinnick stadium is in the middle of a neighborhood so the whole area is a tailgating zone. Cops are pretty much going out of their way to hassle people and its a shame. Cops telling big time athletic donors to turn down their music in a lot they paid to park at... Much more anal procedures on entering the stadium so it takes forever. cops with dogs guarding the endzone to not rush the field.. Giving open container tickets to 60 year old men who are just walking from one spot to another. Much stricter vendor laws which made the magic bus get uprooted... which is a real damn shame.

It might sound like the hawk fans are taking this out of proportion, but when you are used to a certain way and is a huge part of iowa tradition (tailgating was AWESOME), it really has caused an uproar.

The president of UI has been getting flooded with emails and calls so hopefully something happens. I really don't have a problem with it in general, its just the police going gestapo when they have no real reason to, They are pretty much looking to write tickets.

Hey, leave DickRod alone!

:no Meeeeeechigan alumni wants him out of A2 as quickly as possible. I guarantee there are a few alumni ready and willing to write BIG checks to pay off DickRod's contract. :p

Predictions for this weekend?

Miami over OSU -- decided by 7 points or less

Bama rolls Penn State

OU over FSU...however this one can go either way. I just gave the edge to OU cuz they're at home.

And I guess Michigan over ND....I just don't like ND lol

Who likes ND ?, lol There is an unfair advantage if it is in South Bend

Alabama 20, PSU 10

OSU 27, Miami 17

Notre Dame 35, Michigan 34

But I'm only worried about one game! Go Hawks!! Hate playing instate rivals... scary games.

Steve Addazio completely sucks as UF's offensive coordinator. He's WAAAAAAAY too conservative. He did the same sh*t last year where he ran the ball 99.99% of the time, and rarely called for a pass in front of the line of scrimmage. The Gators have the talent where they could just demolish Miami of Ohio and many other teams offensively, but the play calling for the offense the last year (and this game) has been absolutely putrid. This offense is not going to play up to their ability as long as Addazio is calling the plays.

Obviously our defense is going to miss Charlie Strong's presence as D-Coordinator this year, since he was absolutely amazing at his job, but I don't think our defense will be an issue, our offense will be.

I mean our offense was filled with experienced seniors/juniors who were amazing in 2008 under Dan Mullen, and suddenly Steve Addazio comes in for the 2009 season and those same players looked like they have absolutely no idea what to do.

The day Addazio is no longer running the offensive play calling is the day Gators fans will collectively rejoice.

This.

No joke, that game last Saturday was straight-up nonsense. I'm willing to bet that he was trying not to unveil everything all at once against somebody like Miami of Ohio, but then again I said the same thing last year and the offense never really opened up. As long as Pouncey can get those snaps to Brantley, though, I think the offense will look a bit better and do a better job at being a spread offense.

So I have to go to a wedding at 4:15pm today! The worst possible time!

However, I just downloaded something called mobitv and I can watch the game right from my phone! This may be the coolest thing ever.
