September 16, 201016 yr And I really messed up quoting this. Anyway, it seems like he thinks he can close, and Edwin feels the same way. It's possible he'll be the 2011 closer, if he continues his success. Possible but i wouldnt bet on it... He actually has been the only one who actually looked like a real ML closer this season He knows what 1-2-3 means
September 16, 201016 yr Leo Nunez: 21 appearances without giving up a hit or a walk. 61 appearances. Clay Hensley: 21 appearances without giving up a hit or a walk. 61 appearances. But by all means, continue to spew bulls***.

I have no idea what Papelbon has to do with anything. And I really messed up quoting this. Anyway, it seems like he thinks he can close, and Edwin feels the same way. September 16, 201016 yr Only here I give Hensley a compliment and everyone gets snotty because poor Leo Nunez is being pick on Buuuhuuuu :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

I love Hensley. And he's been better than Leo Nunez this year. But don't make crap up and then get whiny when you get called out for it being incorrect.
September 16, 201016 yr Why should we be excited about him going 3 for 3 against the Nationals? I want to be excited, but... it was the Nationals. Should be excited about his year. As in, he's been great in relief all year, regardless of the situation. But the thread title is about him being the closer. Unless "settling in" are the operative words and not closer.
September 16, 201016 yr I still think that he can be a starter and I would try him in that role next season. There really isn't much there right now outside of Johnson and Sanchez, so if Hensley could put up decent numbers it would help the club immensely. Will it make the bullpen worse? Yes, but the rotation is more important than the bullpen is. And it's easier to find relievers than it is to find starters. If Hensley thinks he's mentally and physically capable of starting again, the Marlins should consider it.

If Hensley thinks he's mentally and physically capable of starting again, the Marlins should consider it. We have more than Johnson and Sanchez. As for the bullpen debate, it might be easy finding a couple of cheap arms that can get the job done in the offseason, but without Hensley, we'll be forced to find about 4 or 5 of those guys over the offseason to even have an average bullpen next year.

Who? I think Hensley could easily outproduce West or Miller next season, no questions asked. Volstad too could be a safe bet. With Nolasco it becomes a bit complicated. He's been well below the median for qualified NL starters, and has the potential to be the pitcher he was a couple of seasons ago, but he's still very meh. With Sanabia, there is no certainty whatsoever. The issues with his peripherals have already been stated. It's not a stretch to say that Hensley could end up being the third best starting pitcher in the organization right now. I might not have said this before the 2010 season, but I've soured on Nolasco and Volstad and have given up completely on Miller. The Marlins have warm bodies to put in the rotation, but nobody that I want to see. There is also the concern over what will happen if either Sanchez or Johnson gets injured. Additionally, I think it's ludicrous to say that one Hensley necessitates finding five guys. He's just one pitcher. Beinfest will need to treat it like any other year and just be successful this time. I still think Nunez can close but I'm getting to the point where I'd rather see Nolasco closing than I would see Hensley there.
