Up for HOF consideration

Featured Replies

The Veterans Comittee will vote next month on the Expansion era(1973-present), as announced during this season, they will rotate three different eras on a tri-annual basis. Next year will focus on the Golden era (1947-1972) and the pre-integration era 1871-1946 in 2012. Individuals up for consideration this year include George Steinbrenner, Billy Martin, Marvin Miller, Vida Blue, Dave Concepcion, Steve Garvey, Ron Guidry, Tommy John, Al Oliver, Ted Simmons and Rusty Staub.

To be elected individuals must appear on 75 % of the sixteen ballots with eight HOF players( including Tony Perez) casting a vote. That said do any of these deserve inclusion in the HOF?

I'd take Keith Hernandez over anyone on that list.

Getting Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry hooked on blow doesn't make you a hall of famer

I'm not quite sure how Rusty Staub is on the list and Hernandez isn't, maybe his admitted drug use is still keeping from consideration. I didn't consider the players still out there not on the list, possibly a pitcher like Jim Kaat is more deserving than Tommy John (its not like he performed the surgery). Hopefully Steinbrenner's two suspensions from baseball will have an effect on whether he gets elected.

For players...none.

Not even Vida Blue? Rough crowd

Another one with drug problems, doubt he'll get a sniff.

I'd love to see Concepcion get in but I'm biased & sure it won't happen.

Tony Perez is one of the veterans voting, maybe he can sway a few votes Davey's way, if Rizzuto made it in on the strength of the teams he played with its a possibility.

For players...none.

None of those players belong. The more unworthy players that make it the more they devalue the HOF. It's ridiculous. Looking through Blue's stats he only had 2 qualifying seasons with an ERA+ better than 125.

Steinbrenner and especially Marvin Miller. Miller, as head of the Players' Union, is basically responsible for free agency. It's a crime he's not in the Hall already.

None of those players scream HOF to me, the closest is Ted Simmons, who is one of the better offensive catchers in history.

Are any of these worth of HOF induction

  • George Steinbrenner...Yes but may not get in because of controversy
  • Billy Martin...As a manager he should be inducted
  • Marvin Miller...Yes, he changed the game players owe him a huge debt
  • Vida Blue...No
  • Dave Concepcion...Different era different type of player 9 times All star 4 GG however No
  • Steve Garvey...No, good player some great years but falls short
  • Rusty Staub...No
  • Ron Guidry...I would say No had an amazing 7 seasons out of 14 year career
  • Tommy John...It's a coin toss for me but I lean towards No
  • Al Oliver...Yes he had 23 year career .303 Average Wish his power stats were better
  • Ted Simmons...No

George Steinbrenner = Eh, sure.

Billy Martin = Whatever.

Marvin Miller = Of course but he arguably took this league in the wrong direction.

Vida Blue = No way

Dave Concepcion = No way

Steve Garvey = No way

Rusty Staub = No way

Ron Guidry = No way

Tommy John = No way

Al Oliver = No way

Ted Simmons = No way

KEITH HERNANDEZ = YES.

But of course he's not being considered.

Wipe the egg from my face, somehow I missed the one guy that actually got elected Pat Gillick! My bad :dork

Miller came up one vote short with eleven and Concepcion finished third with eight of sixteen votes, Steinbrenner had less than eight votes
