I posted this in another thread but I'm going to make it one of it's own because it deserves the recognition and consideration.

For all those wanting to trade for Michael Young, listen up:

There's a reason no one is interested in Young: he's not worth trading for unless he's a pure dump by the Rangers which they're not really pawning him off as, at least not right now.

The much more sensible thing to do is sign a platoon partner for Bonifacio who can hit righties and play defense. Take a look at who just hit free agency again: Joe Crede. He's been out of the game for a year but in '09 and '08, he posted .775 and .910 OPSes and a +9 and a +4 at 3B. He's a +41 at 3B for his career. Sign him to a small one year major league deal, platoon him with Boni, ease him back into form, and give Dominguez the time he needs in the minors.

Problem solved.

Been saying it for a long time.. there is absolutely no harm in signing this guy. HELL of a defender.

Sign him please.

I wonder why he sat out last year ? We had this problem and didn't get him then. You think it might be something physical we haven't heard about ?

I'm pretty sure he sat out w/shoulder problems. Would love to see if he is over those problems because he is a treat to watch play 3B.

edit - back problems

Joe Crede signed with the Rockies.

Joe Crede signed with the Rockies.

he was released yesterday.....never showed up to camp

Yeah, he never reported. He's an FA again.

I wouldn't give him a major league deal; that's for sure.

It sounds like a good idea. But his back problems have been a nagging issue the last few years.

Also, he might not want to play for us in a limited platoon role (which might not even last a full season).

Why? It's not like we don't have the room on the 40 man.

After being out of baseball for a full year, I'm sure he'd understand and even welcome it as a means of getting back in shape while playing for a contract elsewhere next year. It helps both parties: our reasons are obvious and it's a good chance for him to wind up with a bigger deal next year and revive his career. It's a win/win.

I'm sure the rockies thought the same thing...

I'd love to give him a try if he'd be willing to sign a Minor League deal.

And we could always cut him if things don't work out. But a 3B with back problems trying to make a come back? Dallas popped right into my head after reading that. Big difference in their defensive capabilities, but......... I have friends with back problems and even after operations there are no guarantees. Real long shot there.

Minor league deal at best. If he would even consider that.

After sitting out a year, I'm sure he'd settle for platooning, especially considering he isn't good vs lefties to begin with. He probably just wants assurance that he'll be in the majors unless he gets hurt. And the only reason we would send him down anyways would be if he got hurt because even if he is rusty at the plate, his glove won't be. Also, we have plenty of room on the 40 man for a guy like him so I really don't understand why everyone is so against a major league deal.

I'd give him a shot, and show Wes Helms the door

He's still a free agent. At this point, I'm guessing he'd accept a minor league deal.

Wouldn't hurt, just to add depth.
