March 8, 201214 yr Or the 2012 version of Kevin Kolb. He's nothing like Kolb. Kolb was horrible before the trade. Flynn has shown he can play. No, he wasn't. It's actually a similar case. You're basing everything on 49 pass attempts on a very, very, very good team. Before this past year (which, again, was a grand total of 49 passes), no one would've been this excited about Flynn. When you have a need and a chance to acquire a player of Peyton Manning's caliber, you do it. It's not a similar case, at all. Kolb was in a QB friendly system in Philadelphia that produced QBs like Mcnabb, Garcia, Feely and Vick. All of them had success in Philadelphia. Kolb did not. Look at his stats, or watch his game film. You will see a bad QB. I'm not basing this off of Flynn's one game, so I would appreciate it if you stop putting words in my mouth. Flynn is a decade younger, has had success in Philbin's system, the same system that MIami is running, and is much healthier. On top of that, his contract demand will not be as high as Manning. He's a risk, yes. But a much safer risk than Manning. It does not matter if it's Manning, Brady, Montana or Elway. If a QB has the same injury as Manning, and is the same age as Manning, he's a huge risk. Huge. Green Bay doesn't have a QB-friendly system? QB's not named Flynn seem to be doing just fine there, as well. Flynn isn't a decade younger than Kolb so not sure what you're trying to say. If you're not basing it on 49 passes, what are you basing it on? You're telling me to watch game film which is pretty funny. Are you Ron Jaworski or something? I highly doubt that you've watched the game film you're telling me to watch. And again, his stats are based on 49 passes. Before his short-sampled 49 passes last year, his stats looked like Kevin Kolb's. I'm not saying he'll be a bust; I'm just saying it's ridiculous that you think he automatically won't. It's also silly to think that he'll definitely put up Peyton Manning #'s. It's extremely difficult to put up declining Peyton Manning #'s, much less Peyton Manning #'s. The reason why Peyton Manning will make more money is because he's flat out better when healthy. All indications are that he's been making significant progress and the season is still months away from starting.
March 8, 201214 yr Btw, it's only March and the season doesn't start for another 6 months.... The nerve to regenerate could take up to two years to regenerate. Even if it does, he still won't be the Peyton Manning of old because of the injury. If taking an entire year off hasn't helped Manning, what makes you think a 6 months would? Uh, who says it didn't help him? There were reports last year that said he could've been back for the last couple games of the season, but the Colts decided not to because the games were irrelevant and they wanted the 1st pick.

All indications are that he's been making significant progress and the season is still months away from starting. They do, and now that system in Green bay is in Miami. That's my point. Joe Philbin is the head coach of the Dolphins, in case you missed it. I meant a decade younger than Manning. I'm basing it off the the fact that he's 26, has experience in the league, and has been in Philbin's system for 4 seasons. No, they didn't. Matt Flynn had a damn impressive performance against New England, throwing three touchdowns. Leaving Philadelphia, Kolb had a 73 QB Rating. Flynn has a 93 QB rating. I actually have. If you want to stay ignorant, fine by me. I choose not too. Again, you're putting words in my mouth. I'm not saying he will not bust and put up Peyton Manning numbers. I'm saying his chances of success in Miami are greater than Manning's because of Manning's injury and Matt Flynn's experience in the system. If he was healthy, why would Indy release him? All the indications of his health came from Manning's camp. I'm not surprised all his teammates and his agent are saying that. What else would they say?

Yea, I don't buy that. There are also reports saying he can't throw to his left and that he lost velocity on his passes. If Manning was healthy, Indy would not have released him. They can afford to have Manning and Luck.
March 8, 201214 yr The only reason why Flynn has a 93 rating is because he had a couple of great games last year and put up a 124 rating in 49 passes. That's a really small sample. Statistically, everything on Flynn is based on small samples so you're just relying on your game film. And my point is, you take the better QB. I think it's Manning. Most people think it's Manning. You, for whatever reason, think it's Flynn because he's had a couple of very good games. Also, I know that Philbin is Miami's head coach. My point is that Philbin's success is likely due to the greatness of Aaron Rodgers more than his "system." Your QB-friendly system statement made no sense to me because even the guys you mentioned for Philly...not all of those guys were good in Philly. At the end of the day, you still need the right QB and there's no guarantee that Flynn is that guy just because he's had a couple of good games.

I guarantee you that they don't release Manning if their backup plan is...Matt Flynn.

Philbin is now in Miami. Would it not make sense to pair the two together?

They could have kept Manning and drafted Luck. Instead, they released Manning.

The Colts want to rebuild, and you can't rebuild with half your salary going to the QB position.

Green Bay also having tremendous receivers is a big reason. As for it making sense to pair Philbin/Flynn together...maybe. It was only 2-3 good games, though.

And this is an owner who loves Peyton Manning.
March 8, 201214 yr Perhaps the Colts just want to start their rebuild next year with Luck already. The rest of their team sucks. They're likely not SB contenders even if Manning comes back so they're aware that they have to rebuild. The Dolphins actually have better pieces in place than a team like the Colts to make a legit run. Also, that logic can be used against you. If Manning is done, why are so many teams reportedly interested in signing him?

I mean, there are reports saying he isn't. And again, the reports saying he is healthy are coming from his teammates, his agents, and his own doctors. I don't trust them. It's hard to trust any source. The only way to know if he is fully healthy is if he comes out and states that the nerve in his neck has fully regenerated. And even then, he most likely will not be the same. The same thing happened to Marino. Like I said, it's a risk to sign both Manning and Flynn. Manning is unhealthy, Flynn has the small sample size. But in my opinion, Flynn is the better risk.
March 8, 201214 yr Going 2-14 gives them more of a reason to release Manning actually, especially having the 1st pick of the draft which will be a QB. Manning's money allows them to improve the rest of the team as they build around Luck who projects to be a franchise QB just like Manning was.

I could see a majority of the teams bringing him in for a workout, and then deciding to shy away from him. There are two owners who, in my mind would sign him regardless, and they are Snyder and Ross.

Havinf Luck and getting rid of Manning- $6MM, extra $34MM to rebuild with. Just making sure you get the math.

March 8, 201214 yr Actually, Qbanj, I think you're math is wrong. Where did you get that it will cost 40 million? 28Million guaranteed + yearly salary + $6 for Luck... all comes to about $40MM

Actually, as good as Manning was, they were barely a playoff team with him the last year there. They went 10-6 with rather elite QB play, which kinda demonstrates that the rest of their team sucks. Considering how much Houston's improved, there's no guarantee that the Colts make the playoffs even with Manning back. Their supporting cast is that bad. The Dolphins, on the other hand, have a #1 receiver, a pretty good running game that Peyton Manning can make better, and a top-10 defense. It makes more sense for a team like the Dolphins to take such a risk.
