2012 NFL Offseason Thread

Actually, Qbanj, I think you're math is wrong. Where did you get that it will cost 40 million?

28Million guaranteed + yearly salary + $6 for Luck... all comes to about $40MM

Oh ok, I didn't see his yearly salary till now.

Plus 3rd stringer QB. So more like 45.

I think you're adding too much money here.

They released Manning. Why would they release him if he's healthy? They could have kept Manning and drafted Luck. Instead, they released Manning.

$28 million bonus with little salary cap space.

Team's currently in rebuilding mode.

Andrew Luck.

The timing was right to move on, given this team isn't going to compete anytime soon and they need cap space to get younger.

This decision mostly came down to money. $28 million for an injury risk is a lot.

For the Dolphins, $8 million or so in an incentive laden contract isn't much at all. There's no question the risk to go with Manning comes with a hell of a lot bigger reward next season than Flynn does.

I think the chances of Miami landing Manning are high. I don't think it's a done deal, but I think it's going to happen. Apparently, he doesn't want to play in Washington because of Eli, and the fact that his parents want a Manning vs Manning Superbowl.

If the Broncos sign Manning, there's going to be a big problem in the Mile High.

It would be the only place Manning could sign where the fans would actually be upset with him being there.

Silly Broncos fans.

If Manning comes to Miami, they better not pass up on the opportunity to draft Tannehil to draft another player like DeCastro or Reiff. The only way I would be remotely close being ok to signing Manning is if we draft Tannehill.

What happened to your "Weeden is the best QB in this draft not named Luck" belief? Serious question as to what made you change your mind and put Tannehill randomly so far up from where he used to be.

If this thread also include draft thoughts, I can honestly say I'm not strong on any of the options presented for the Dolphins at #8 currently. I still think whoever gets Jeffries in the 2nd round is getting a steal. As of right now, the guy I want is Quinton Coples. Simply put, he's a playmaker. He's a risky pick without a question, but all the safe first round picks we've taken in recent years has led us nowhere.

I'd like Tannehill a little more if he wasn't a WR for half of his college career. I can't buy into a guy being a top 10 pick when he wasn't a QB his entire time in college, and he wasn't absolutely dominant when he was starting at QB (tough to do, but others have done it).

My hope remains what I have been asking for since the day the season ended (or as soon as I heard the Colts wanted to get rid of Manning months ago). Go get Peyton Manning to fill a gap for the next three or so years. Draft Russell Wilson in the 3rd or 4th round and have him sit behind Manning. If he becomes a good QB and can succeed Manning, terrific. If he can't, it's no terrible loss. Just move on and draft a QB when Peyton leaves.

It's obvious we need to draft a QB this draft. The problem I have is that outside of Luck and RG3, I don't see anybody else being worthy of a first round pick (just like how I felt last draft after Newton. although Dalton proved me wrong). Weeden's a good QB, but it's hard to build a franchise around a 28 year old unproven QB. I would've liked Tyler Wilson, but he went back to college. Same goes for Barkley. I'm not sold on Kirk Cousins being anything other than a solid college leader, and Brock Osweiler is tall.

Seriously though, there are some intriguing QB names, but none outside of the top two really stand out at this point in time as guys who can come out and start right away. Overall, this whole draft class is somewhat meh. Hard to compare considering last year's draft was so amazingly good at the top half of the draft.

As for the QBs in this draft, I like Luck, Weeden, Griffin, and Tannehill. I think they could be franchise caliber QBs. The issue is, other than Luck, they all have some glaring issues. Weeden is old, Griffin and Tannehill are raw. They both could play from day one in my opinion, but you'll have to baby step them the way Carolina did early on with Newton. They will all have to be in the right situation to succeed, just like most rookie QBs. I think Tannehill could succeed here.

Seems like Arizona is the hot rumor for Peyton (no pun intended)... him, Fitzgerald and Wayne could be very scary.

It's more like Houston or Miami. His agent already said that he doesn't want to play in the NFC against his brother. And his parents want a Manning-Manning Superbowl.

Dolphins. Marlins. Heat. Miami Championship hat trick.

f*** you.

The Panthers want in on this sh*t, and we all know a playoff trip for them is the same thing as winning the Stanley Cup.

Manning is officially a FA. Dolphins are expected to land him, maybe even Reggie Wayne as well.

Expected to land him? Source?

You serious there bro?

Florida panthers brah. Not Miami. But not gonna lie I threw hat trick in there to poke at the hardcore panthers fans. :)

Pfft, it's not like they're some black sheep. They still serve South Florida.

lol. Seriously, have you opened a newspaper? Been on ANY sports website?

Source? EVERYWHERE.

Google News'd it yesterday and I was seeing a lot of Dolphin favoritism but I haven't heard anything about expecting to land.

With that being said I expect the Dolphins to land Peyton Manning. It's a match made to be really. There's plenty of time for him to wrap his career up here with nobody standing in his way, and a young QB to train in whoever we draft to take his place when Peyton retires.

Exactly. And the Dolphins should have the cap space to land Peyton and Wayne. I can't imagine him going anywhere else. With that said, earlier today Peyton said that he expects to make a decision within a week, which should be hard considering he has received calls from 11 teams expressing interest already.

Lets say we do land PM, do we keep Matt Moore under him? It would be a great learning experience for him, but that goes for anyone under PM.
