April 22, 201214 yr He probably could have been a Marlin if Beinfest didn't want the entire farm in the Cabrera trade.
April 22, 201214 yr Yeah. I don't remember the exact deal, but I think that the oasked us to choose between Eithier and Kemp. I think Kershaw, Billingsley, and Loney were also being discussed in the trade. I know the Cabrera trade has been brought up a million times on this board, but its still crazy to think where we'd be if we would've taken that deal (even if prospect wise the Tigers offer might've been better at the time).
April 22, 201214 yr The Marlins wanted a high volume of players. It didn't include all, but several among Kemp, Billinglsey, Kershaw, Ethier, Loney, and Broxton. The Dodgers didn't want to give up that many names, so a deal was never in place. Instead of narrowing it down to Kemp + Billingsley/Kershaw, the Marlins went to Detroit. I sincerely think they could have pulled off Kemp and someone else. That would have been a much safer move because he was much more developed than Maybin/Miller. Maybin and Miller were universally regarded, but they still carried a lot more risk with them. Basically the Marlins gambled, I think, because they opted to acquire the talent that was raw but had a lot of potential. And I'm not just speaking in hindsight. I expressed this at the time.
April 22, 201214 yr Even if they made the Dodgers deal, its unlikely that all or most of the players would still be on the team due to payroll reasons....
April 22, 201214 yr Even if they made the Dodgers deal, its unlikely that all or most of the players would still be on the team due to payroll reasons.... I don't think that's fair to say because we simply don't know.
April 22, 201214 yr Whenever I see Kemp do well I immediately think about this sh*t. I can't help it.
April 22, 201214 yr Easily the favorite to be NL MVP this year and he really should've won it last year. I would've loved to see this guy play for the Marlins but I just enjoy watching him play period.
April 22, 201214 yr Man, had we gotten Kemp, Ethier, and Kershaw, then imagine the team we'd have at this point. Not that it would necessarily be this way, but say we still signed the guys we did this past off-season even after getting those guys: Buck at Catcher, Morrison at first, Infante/Bonifacio at second, Reyes at short, Hanley at third, Ethier in left, Kemp in center, Stanton in right ... GODDAMN! And then that rotation? Kershaw, JJ, Buehrle, Sanchez, Nolasco/Zambrano That'd be an insane team, right there.
April 22, 201214 yr He's on pace for 97 homers, 238 RBI, 76 walks, 151 Ks, 11 steals, 22 CS, 292 hits, 184 runs ... lol.
April 22, 201214 yr Author And Kemp plays CF. (I know he was miserable 2 years ago defensively, but he's been alright otherwise.)
April 22, 201214 yr And Kemp plays CF. (I know he was miserable 2 years ago defensively, but he's been alright otherwise.) He was dating Rihanna then. He's much better now defensively. Much much better.

April 22, 201214 yr I think the saying is "behind every successful man is a powerful woman," which ... Well, Rihanna isn't.
April 22, 201214 yr I think the saying is "behind every successful man is a powerful woman," which ... Well, Rihanna isn't. I think the real one is "behind every successful man is a surprised woman." But maybe that's just what my mom told me (JK).
April 22, 201214 yr Actually, upon looking it up, it's just a woman. Not powerful, not successful. Just a woman.
April 22, 201214 yr He's on pace for 97 homers, 238 RBI, 76 walks, 151 Ks, 11 steals, 22 CS, 292 hits, 184 runs ... lol. Set to come up short in his quest for a 50-50 season that he publicly set himself before the season. FAIL!!!
April 22, 201214 yr Well, kinda hard to steal bases when you're circling them so often. He's getting the 50 homers out of the way first.

God, imagine Kemp and Kershaw instead of Miller and Maybin.
