Well, yeah, something could happen over the next year (like an injury) but that's completely irrelevant. Right now he's virtually a lock for the first overall pick. That's not remotely the same as the draft board we just saw. The point I'm making is that some years the first overall pick can be predicted with a high degree of confidence.

Some years have clear favorites. Others don't.

We (19-45) still suck to the tune of 3 less wins than the Astros (22-44.)

But, soon, it may become a problem to suck more than the Mutts (23-36.) Or even the Cubs (now in their 105th year of suckage at 25-37.)

Regardless of the benefits of losing 100+ games, I agree that any draft choice is a crap-shoot and it would be a better outcome for all of our young guys to win about half of their remaining games while looking forward to more talent on the way.

The sort of thing that might inspire the FO to make Stanton a long-term offer.

Maybe I'm in the minority but who gives a s*** about Rodon. I'd rather have this young team play good baseball and win a few games in the process to prepare for next year. That seems more important than Rodon at this point

apparently your sarcasm meter is turned off

I wasn't really alluding to your post, but to the non-sarcastic posts that would prefer 120 losses to get Rodon.

okey-doke...

I agree that any draft choice is a crap-shoot

I don't think this is necessarily true, either. Some picks in the earlier rounds on the whole tend to be safer than the later rounds, I think. Of course, it's not a perfect science, but it's not a total crap shoot if you have the luxury of picking early.
