Posted August 6, 201311 yr If Polanco is subsequently released, you guys think they'll call up Zack Cox and give him a shot at third with Lucas filling in every other day? I kinda wanna see what this kid has got. He's been putting up pretty decent numbers so far in AA.
August 6, 201311 yr I can't say what the Marlins will do because they make a lot of dumb decisions when they call up prospects. However, he hasn't been very impressive in AA when you consider that he's 24 now and has 2 prior stints in both AA and AAA. In fact, his AA numbers from 2011 were better than what he's doing now. In short, I don't think he needs to be in the big leagues to say that the kid has got very little.
August 6, 201311 yr In fact, I'd be surprised if the Marlins call him up soon simply because I believe that he was promoted to AAA only very recently.
August 6, 201311 yr Why not just call up kouzmanoff? Literally can't be worse than what we have now. He could platoon with Lucas as a lefty/righty matchup considering lucas is hitting over .300 v lefties, and kouz over .300 v righties. May be odd since they're both righties, but hey, go with strengths. Then again, he always seems to put up good numbers in the minors and doesnt do much In the majors, so that's probably a bad idea
August 6, 201311 yr Cox isnt good. He has no power and is opsing less than .800 in his 3rd year in AA.
August 6, 201311 yr What's the harm? Bring him up and let's see what he can do. Maybe create an early competition for the job next year between him, Coghlan, Lucas, etc. barring any unforeseen FA signings.

Not sure what the story was there because he was only in AAA for 2 games. The Cards likely moved him too fast through the minors. I wouldn't call him impressive, he's okay. In the long run likely AAA filler/depth. Defensively he's got some shortcomings. Okay arm but range & hands are both iffy. He does have a quick bat & can spray the ball around the field, and for what it's worth has shown some better patience at the plate this season. Just wish he had developed a little power.
August 6, 201311 yr Terrible number against lefty .182 in this season (comparison with .335 avg against righty) And Cox hit only 2 homers thru 67 games. It really sucks as a 3rd base man.
August 6, 201311 yr he reminds me of greg dobbs in that he can be on your major league team but he wont be anything special.
August 6, 201311 yr How about Dietrich or Coghlan's position switching to 3rd? I think it will be more helpful than Cox, practically.
August 6, 201311 yr How about Dietrich or Coghlan's position switching to 3rd? I think it will be more helpful than Cox, practically. Dietrich might be better suited for third but that won't help the Marlins much beyond next season.
August 6, 201311 yr he reminds me of greg dobbs in that he can be on your major league team but he wont be anything special. he may not be hitting for a high average this year but Dobbs has been an extremely productive player for us.

I wouldn't bring him up because it doesnt solve anything. He hasn't been very good in the minors. He is likely to struggle mightily in the majors. I mean, he's hittin .335 against righties. That's hardly struggling. Lucas has a similar average against lefties. Not that I would be excited to have a Cox/Lucas platoon, but it probably could be productive for a year. Luckily both are decent #2 hitters, too, so thy can be easily interchangeable.
