December 6, 200322 yr I am absolutely amazed at the fantasy world some of you kids live in that you think Ramon Castro could hit 35, even 25+ homeruns in a season. When major league pitchers have a chance to pitch to him a few times and the word gets around he'll be lucky to stay above the Mendoza line over the course of a season. The guy can barely hit .250-.260 in PR for god sakes against the equivalent of AAA pitching, what do you think will happen when he faces the best pitching in professional baseball? The only place he'll ever hit 30 homers is in the Pennsylvania Penal League. Do you know how players improve? PLAYING TIME! All Castro needs is a year in the big leagues to adjust to the pitching and he'll be hitting them out the park left and right. EVERY game if we were down by one, the game was in the 8th or 9th, and the pitcher was due up in the inning, everyone wanted Castro in. I think we only went to him once in a situation like that and he had a walk-off homer. Castro just nmeeds playing time, fool.

December 6, 200322 yr He already has power. Why would you work on something you already have? He's probably trying to hit better. Spreading his hits. Trying to go the other way, trying to pull some balls, trying to be a better all around hitter.
December 6, 200322 yr Ramon Castro is a huge risk. If I were the marlins I would pick up an experienced catcher to take over at catcher. If Castro doesn't end up in jail, then I would look for increased playing time but I don't think he should be our full time catcher.
December 6, 200322 yr He is not demonstrating his power at the PR winter league So what? He's done it everywhere else...

Because of the potential Castro has to be absolutely SICK, I think you do get a vet, but you start off with Ramon as your full-time guy. If the risk doesn't work, you always have that vet to fallback on.
December 6, 200322 yr Speaking of "SICK", I think I'm going to puke if I have to read any more of this drivel.

December 6, 200322 yr Hey, give Castro a chance, and if that doesn't work out, then sometime around the middle of May restart negotiations with Pudge....who will still be without a contract.....should be enough time for him to return from cloud 9.
December 6, 200322 yr should be enough time for him to return from cloud 9. Pudge is above the clouds... He is god. Didn't you get Boras' memo?
