Jose Fernandez Rumor

Featured Replies

Anyone care to give a brief synopsis for us lazy folks?

Where we're at here...

Marlins and Scott Boras have a minor squabble over two issues (Ozuna's demotion and Jose Fernandez's 2016 pitch limits)...

ESPN facetiously suggests Miami trade Jose as a solution to not have to deal with Boras...

Craig Mish seemingly uses this to claim Jose is being shopped...

Andy Slater uses this opening to let out that Jose isn't actually the best teammate...

Marlins deny and/or refuse to comment on all of this...

Conclusion: Jose Fernandez IS a less than stellar teammate BUT the Marlins still have no reason or desire to trade him at this point ALTHOUGH it isn't out of the question in the future.

If I'm Marlins I give Jose Fernandez two options and two options only:

1) Sign long term

2) Be ridden like a cheap rented mule for the next 3 years and whatever happens, happens.

Tell Jose to go talk to his agent and figure out what he wants to do, the phone is always on to discuss the long term deal, it is not on to discuss how they use him.

What are the other possible options besides those two?

How is this different to what happens now?

I assume right now they at least try to protect his arm long term.

With riding him like a cheap rented mule, if he blows out in 4 years, why should they care?

By ride like a cheap rented mule, I mean throw him out there for 32-35 starts a year, fuck pitch counts, and only rest him if something structurally is wrong and/or its in the Marlins best interest for that season to rest him.

Fuck innings limits that Jose and/or Boras seem to want for his long term future.

I'm on board with this. Marlins offered Jose an extremely fair contract for a guy coming off TJ (and Ozuna and extremely fair one as well). Fuck Boras

All Jose would have to do is not throw with maximum effort when his pitch count gets high. You think donny baseball is going to let him throw innings of batting practice every 5th game because Loria said so?

Jose is a pretty fierece competitor. He aint gonna lighten up when his pitch count gets high (which is actually a problem since he already is clearly an injury risk)

If he doesn't throw with maximum effort, he'll give up hits and runs and his bargaining position for a LTD takes a hit anyway.

If Jose blows out his arm and the Marlins don't send a get well card, well....

*slow applause*

I think at the very least this gives more insight into the complete dysfunction that is this teams front office.  I think when this ownership finally sells the team there are going to be some pretty unbelievable stories that come out about just how crazy it is in our front office.

The next time Fernandez throws at less than max effort in a game will be the first time, tbh.

Not sure what the FO has to do with this one... This looks like one pissed off player, a lot of conjecture, a lot of assuming, and a lot of anti-marlins clickbait hysteria
