December 30, 201510 yr They didn't really try anyway despite the reports. No actual offer was made. Of course they didn't because they are going to bottom of the barrel shop (despite having the lowest payroll in baseball) and hope for the best. Erick said it - how they are not building to win right now with Stanton and Fernandez, and having Yelich, Gordon, Ozuna, Ramos, etc. all cheap is just beyond me.
December 30, 201510 yr I read online. I think from Barry Jackson that the Marlins discussed trying to trade for chapman to make him a starter.
December 30, 201510 yr I read online. I think from Barry Jackson that the Marlins discussed trying to trade for chapman to make him a starter. Hmm. Interesting. But I think that ship sailed years ago. Figures the Marlins would be the team to consider that in 2016.
December 30, 201510 yr ### The Marlins had interest in closer Aroldis Chapman before the Reds traded him to the Yankees this week, and Miami had given thought to making Chapman the No. 2 starter in its rotation… The Marlins, still hoping to find a pitching bargain, have been discussing several names, including Doug Fister (5-7 in 2015), Edwin Jackson (4-3) and Cliff Lee (missed 2015 with an arm injury). per Barry Jackson. The Reds tried making him a starter again a couple years ago. They started in Spring Training but then decided against it. I will pass on Edwin Jackson, guy sucks. Take a flyer on Cliff Lee and Fister though.
December 30, 201510 yr Edwin Jackson???? My god the jokes just keep on coming. I swear Loria must have a calendar with the wrong year on it.
December 30, 201510 yr I'm fine with Fister, Jackson, or Lee as the #4/5 reclamation. Still need Kennedy, Chen, and I guess Gallardo or Maeda. Kazmir deal certainly doesn't help chances of signing one, although 4/$52-56 something for Kennedy is still probably ok.

Jackson would be a good project for Benedict, I think that is something that would highly benefit from him even Fister. That contract for Kennedy would be fair averaging around $14 million.
