April 4, 201610 yr It'd be nice to know what time the opening day ceremonies, if any, are starting. Not sure but I'd try to get to my seat by 6 to be safe if I was going. I doubt its that early but it shouldn't be long after.
April 4, 201610 yr Speaking of what to expect, @Admin , do you know if they expanded the netting behind home plate to reach further down the line? I like to sit behind the dugouts, but it's a risk I don't like to subject my family to. Not every team did it and I don't know if the fish did. I tried to find out for you just now but I can't get a solid answer yet.

It's been talked about forever how amazing it is that really terrible accidents caused by rogue foul balls don't occur more often, but after what happened in Boston last season, you'd figure it'd be an absolute top priority requirement set forth by MLB. Let us know if they give you an answer!

Let us know if they give you an answer! I'll definitely let you know, hopefully I can here shortly. I think the expanded netting is a good idea, it really doesn't get in the way of the views anyway. I've sat right behind the net and didn't care one bit.
April 4, 201610 yr @marlinsmaniac, I am told the Marlins made no changes to the netting as they already had it reaching the inner edge of the dugout which was the basic MLB recommendation. I would have liked to have seen them exceed the recommendation and cover the whole dugout personally as some teams optionally did this off-season.
April 4, 201610 yr I don't get how it's optional considering people can literally die. They've said some fans just prefer not to see the netting but to me that's like a fan in the upper deck saying "I can see better without the railing, can we have those removed?"

I really don't know how any human being in charge of this decision can choose not to act on it. It comes down to protecting the lives of our fans (including women and children), or saving the money. For God's sake, whatever it cost would be made back in one game. I just feel that it is such a common sense thing to do. I'm over these idiots. Thanks for finding out for me, Admin!
April 4, 201610 yr I don't get how it's optional considering people can literally die. They've said some fans just prefer not to see the netting but to me that's like a fan in the upper deck saying "I can see better without the railing, can we have those removed?" Exactly! It's not like this is 5 years ago where nothing major has happened. Last year we had the bat incident in Boston, along with the man who fell from the upper deck in Atlanta. I feel it should have been an instant change to requiring them to go down the line, adding that Yankee Stadium-esque netting that goes from home to the upper deck, and raising the minimum height requirements of the upper deck railing.. Some people say, "oh, well that dude was drunk and should have been seated". Yeah, but they spend millions trying to get you to buy a $10 dollar budweiser, and then put you in situations that are dangerous even for someone possessing all of their faculties, much less a drunk person. It seems excessive but, as you said, these are human freaking lives. If i were an owner, it wouldn't have to be mandated. I would do it to protect the people who are the ones financing this whole operation in the first place. Sorry, I just hate that I want my family to enjoy the game up close without shelling out over $100 per seat to be behind a net. That was my venting for the day.
April 4, 201610 yr I feel like a lot of the fans who bitch about their view being ruined have never sat there and assume its a problem too. And even if the view was obstructed, it'd still be dumb to sacrifice safety for it. I sat row 1 behind the fish dugout last year for 3 games in a row. One ball sailed over my head at about 110 mph. Another was off to the right. A few years back at Sun Life, one skipped off the dugout right in front of me. Its just not worth the danger, throw a net across the dugout and be done with this. It really does not block the view at all and it puts your mind at ease. I should have the right to sit row 1 and not wonder if I'll get hit with a flying object.
April 4, 201610 yr I'll tell you right now I'd rather have this foul ball I caught than save one strangers life. I'm selfish. IDC. If the net had been extended I wouldn't be able to hold this foul ball in my hand. The business world can't think like you and your selfish ways.
April 4, 201610 yr The business world can't think like you and your selfish ways. Don't be so hard on @squall, it's just the sources talking. lol
