4/20 Postgame

Happy Birthday, Donnie B!

From Dietrich and Stanton.

If it means no more Mike Hill and David Samson, I hope this team loses 100 games.

Basically feels like last year. Maybe this core just isn't a winner. Who know what the fuck to do anymore?

I keep yelich and Gordon for offense. Fernandez for pitching. 3 out of 25. The other 22 are expendable.

It's crazy that when we get to .500 , things just fall apart. We were 3-3 just last week.

Draft better, trade better, Sign better, hire coaches better. It's not a mystery why this team has problems...it's just that they keep repeating their mistakes year after year. We could've become what the Cubs in the last few years, but they've made all the right choices while we've made mostly the wrong ones.

And here we are.

The Nats become really good team after drafted Strasburg and Harper, what we become after drafted Stanton and Fernandez ?

The life of a Marlins fan, searching reasons to keep self as a Marlins fan every day.

I mean I'll always be a fan, but I've never been one to close my eyes and pretend that problems don't exist when they obviously do and they have for a while. You're being a bad fan if you root for the team blind. The point of a fan base is to be the voice of a consensus and place pressure where pressure deserves to be place while giving praise where it belongs. The apathy among the Marlins fan base is because of a consistent amount of losing with absolutely no self awareness about the roots of the problems from the people who run the team. Nothing will ever change unless people who make mistakes admit to the right mistakes. This team has been making the same mistakes for over a decade and keep placing blame in all the wrong places.

First 13 games

2013 Rob Brantly : 8-for-46, 0hr 3rbi avg .174 / ops .474

2016 JT Realmuto : 9-for-43. 0hr 2rbi avg .209 / ops .472

Seriously I'm concerned.

People will always point out Strasburg and Harper, but the Nationals most definitely did not become a good team because of Strasburg and Harper alone. Not even close.

Jayson Werth was a huge risk that the team made that paid off huge. They made an incredibly smart trade for Gio Gonzalez for a slew of prospects at the exact right time. They signed Scherzer to a big deal and he's become one of the best pitchers in baseball. They traded an overrated closer in Matt Capps for their long term catcher in Wilson Ramos. Anthony Rendon was an incredible steal selection (he's was projected #1 out of Rice before injury concerns) with the 6th pick in the 2011 draft and the team helped him develop incredibly well in the minors.

There's other decisions I can go into, but coaching, drafting, front office decisions relating to free agent choices and smart trades as well as a willingness to take chances and see if they pay off led the Nationals to become one of the best teams in the National League. I can do a similar review of the New York Mets.

Losing culture. Very good analysis. Team is not good.

Dim, what's your opinion on Stanton?

I've said many times he's an incredibly streaky hitter. He also has a history of being awful for a full month at a time. When he gets cold, he's incredibly cold. But when he's hot he's one of the best players in baseball if not the best. He's such a great hitter in those hot streaks that you suffer through the long cold spells like you have right now. He'll get it together at some point soon and get his OPS back near the high .800 to .900 range. But it's definitely hard to watch him in those cold spells.

What if he doesn't get his OPS that high. Right now I got no faith in him

In Stanton,he has many HR and RBI,but the point is,how much of them are really helped the team to win ballgame ?

Home runs and RBIs help teams win regardless. The rest is on the team around him. He can't control how other hitters on the team are hitting and how other pitchers are pitching. If he does his job then that's all the matters. The rest is on everybody else.

The whole argument of "one star hitter affecting the rest of the lineup" comment that gets thrown out by tons of announcers is really just wrong. Stanton's cold spell currently has no bearing on the rest of the team not hitting.

And how many games would we lost when he's COLD ?

Fuck this. It's just baseball. I'll start to care again when the team gives me a reason to care again.

I haven't cared for a few years now.

And how many games do we win when he's RED HOT?

A lot more than we lose when he's cold. It's obviously not ideal, but even when he's cold he's still OPS'ing over .800. Out of all the problems with the Marlins and their future, Stanton is #6553 on the list.

I noticed he gets booed a lot.

How many times we hope him to give us a walk, hit or HR to survive in a game, but that seems always be a asking that too much.

Too many to count. But 4 this year.
