April 21, 201610 yr If the team was actually hitting they wouldn't have to regularly rely on Stanton. Again, far far far bigger issues than him and focusing all the negativity on him is just stupid. If every hitter on this team was OPS'ing .800, we'd be averaging over 5 runs a game and be over .500.
April 21, 201610 yr But I get the star player getting paid always gets the blame, even when it's regularly apparent that he isn't the problem in any way possible. Ozuna and his .506 (!!!!!!!!!) OPS, Hechavarria and his .295 OBP (.690 OPS), Dee Gordon and his sub .700 OPS, Realmuto and his .472 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) OPS, and Justin Bour and his .679 OPS are definitely not the problem here. Literally Stanton, Yelich and Martin Prado are the only players on the team with OPS' over .700 (Prado at .802). If you can't have a lineup with more than three players OPS'ing in the .700s, you're never going to score more than two or three runs a game. And that problem isn't on Stanton. It's on each and every one of those guys I just mentioned above. No team should ever have a starting player OPS under .600, let alone two players significantly below that.
April 21, 201610 yr But he is mister $325. Which brings me to the better ball player, Harper. This dude will make $400 million promise that.
April 21, 201610 yr But he is mister $325. Which brings me to the better ball player, Harper. This dude will make $400 million promise that. This statement doesn't matter at all. It adds nothing. I literally do not care how good Harper is as a player. It has no bearing on the player Stanton is, at all.
April 21, 201610 yr But he is mister $325. Which brings me to the better ball player, Harper. This dude will make $400 million promise that. Don't worry about the money. By the time Stanton is making money, he'll be with the Dodgers and we'll have 3 guys who'll never crack the big league roster. Stanton's making $9 million this year.
April 21, 201610 yr I mean I'll always be a fan, but I've never been one to close my eyes and pretend that problems don't exist when they obviously do and they have for a while. You're being a bad fan if you root for the team blind. The point of a fan base is to be the voice of a consensus and place pressure where pressure deserves to be place while giving praise where it belongs. The apathy among the Marlins fan base is because of a consistent amount of losing with absolutely no self awareness about the roots of the problems from the people who run the team. Nothing will ever change unless people who make mistakes admit to the right mistakes. This team has been making the same mistakes for over a decade and keep placing blame in all the wrong places. Yes, but you seem to be blind to the real issue. You're looking at this at micro instead of a macro perspective. The problems you mention point back to the same issue... ownership. So long as the current ownership is in place nothing changes. It's like being in Cuba. Once a new owner comes in things will hopefully change. Until then, be prepared for the same thing. April 21, 201610 yr It goes beyond ownership. It's a part of it, but ownership is just a part. A team doesn't fail simply because of a bad owner. Dodgers made the playoffs under Frank McCourt, who was as incompetent as you can get. But it's easy to place blame in one spot. Makes it easier to keep track of I guess.
April 21, 201610 yr My enthusiasm for this team would increase ten-fold after Loria sells, a more professional/competent ownership comes in, all of the current FO staff leaves, Preston Wilson loses his job, and teal is the dominant color again.
April 21, 201610 yr Fuck this. It's just baseball. I'll start to care again when the team gives me a reason to care again. I haven't cared for a few years now. yup. I have finally realized that this team will be irrelevant / not make playoffs until Loria sells and all his goons are gone. I said it before, I also blame MLB for sticking us with Loria after John Henry bolted for Boston (I miss going to Reading Phillies games to watch the Portland Sea Dogs when it was Marlins AA team)
April 21, 201610 yr I believed players know, when we bring in guys like Narveson and McGowan they know this team is not serious about winning, they know it.
April 21, 201610 yr I believed players know, when we bring in guys like Narveson and McGowan they know this team is not serious about winning, they know it. But at the same time signed Gordon and Chen to $130 million worth of contracts. Let's not forget Capps and Dunn went down and guys like Ellington did not perform. But yes, I have no idea how Narveson is in the majors.

Stanton's making $9 million this year. I get your point but I don't even think Stanton is making $9 million this year, isn't it at $6.5 million? We're only on year two of the contract.
April 21, 201610 yr I believed players know, when we bring in guys like Narveson and McGowan they know this team is not serious about winning, they know it. With all due respect I hate these type of posts that come up when we're in horrible slumps. Do you really think Stanton, Gordon, Prado etc all sat around in Spring training and said "Hey if Narveson and McGowan make this team, let's not care anymore, lets just start blowing games!" That's not how it works at all.
April 21, 201610 yr I get your point but I don't even think Stanton is making $9 million this year, isn't it at $6.5 million? We're only on year two of the contract. Nah he is making that $9.5 million at least jumps even more next year to around $15 million I believe. It is early in baseball right now, you got really crappy teams off to a decent start. Look at the Phillies and Braves. They will fall back to earth. We faced the Nationals whose starting pitching is tops right now in the majors. The issue is multiple guys need to get going in the line up and establishing that late inning bullpen. Bringing up Barraclough and Urena should help some. Not an easy task to face the Nationals. Think about it they have 3 guys carrying that team Harper, Murphy, Ramos, outside of them they aren't doing much with that offense right now. Ramos is 1-18 against the Marlins with that 1 hit being the homer he hit 2 nights ago. I'd be ecstatic to get a split right now especially with the way things have gone. Chen gave us 7 innings yesterday, all the chance to win but all we got is a HR off Deitrich. When we got the leadoff guy on base, we hit into double plays. The light at the end of the tunnel is we are going on the West Coast trip where typically we play very well against the Giants and Dodgers. The Brewers series actually concerns me lol.

Phillies might really surprise this year...They have some super exciting pitchers... If they call up JP Crawford the lineup isn't the worst thing in the world either
April 21, 201610 yr Their rebuild has gone better than expected and they have a competent GM who seems to know what he is doing.
April 21, 201610 yr Their rebuild has gone better than expected and they have a competent GM who seems to know what he is doing. yeah...the marlins are going to be pretty fucked in 2018 in the NL East
April 21, 201610 yr They can only hope that they develop whatever is left in the minors into solid major leaguers. I am sure that was their intent with Benedict and Delpiano.
April 21, 201610 yr They can only hope that they develop whatever is left in the minors into solid major leaguers. I am sure that was their intent with Benedict and Delpiano. hopefully but there's nothing there right now is the problem... Benedict and Delpiano are used to pitchers that at least have one weapon that they can work with so many bad decisions over the last couple years: Eovaldi, martes, heaney, disco, traded draft picks, Kolek over Rodon
April 21, 201610 yr Magic isn't real and you can't turn shit into diamonds. They marlins have no talent in the minors. 2018-2020 is going to suck. So...................

As I said last weekend, silver linings. We won't be losing 6 of 7 games all year long.
