He sucked and shouldn't have a job, but still better than Mendoza. The problem is that it seems like there are a lot of politics when it comes to choosing sports commentators. All kinds of things--nepotism is a big one. We end up with a lot of people in the booth who shouldn't belong there.

 

McCarver and Mendoza are two examples of people who don't belong. There are more than plenty of former MLB players who would do well in the booth but they are crowded out by the bad decisions made by network producers.

I love McCarver.  I think he is better liked amongst us old dudes and no so much amongst you younger guys.  It's just a matter of preference. However, I think all ages and genders agree that Preston sucks.

on a national broadcast you generally are not going to get the same level of insight into all players because you only have so much prep time.

People hate her because she offered zero insight last night and is too dumb to pronounce the Marine Corps properly on a night intended to honor military service men and women.

 

If I were a dude who stormed Iwo Jima watching that game to hear Mendoza say that, I would have kicked in my TV set.

 

 

All I'm saying is that, I think it's plausible that she was hired for PC reasons. This insulting mispronunciations she made last night prove to me that she doesn't have the brain cells to be an on-air personality.

I failed to comment on what you wrote earlier. she really did mention "marine corpse"? as a former navy guy, I'm torn. not everyone is knowledgeable of its pronunciation. I'm sure one can make a mistake that one will serve in the "peace corpse." of course its pronounced as corps but everyone makes mistakes. I wouldn't necessarily kick a tv in. I feel that if one was actually in the service and said that, then that would make other service members upset. she is not and that's why I couldn't be upset myself.

Names of players, sure. 100% of announcers do that at some point. That's different than something that is common knowledge and disrespectful when mispronounced.
