I think chicks should stick to being side line reporters.  I don't enjoy hearing women do commentary during games.  That's just my personal opinion.  I just can't relate to women in the booth.  I agree with Penguino , they just don't come off as genuine because they never played the game.  Although I would probably be able to accept a man do commentary even if he didn't have MLB experience.  But again, that's just my preference.  I'm old school.

 

 

This is ridiculous.  Since when was it a rule that you had to have been in MLB previously to have the job? 

 

Almost every analyst position is a former player. That's why they are analysts. 

 

Look I'm not trying to start some sexism war. I'm just saying it seems a little odd that a softball player is a baseball analyst.

Plenty of female soccer analysts for the men's game.

I have some female friends who know more about the game than some of my male friends do. Gender doesn't determine someone's knowledge of the game.

Jessica Mendoza is just another pretty face to look at. knowledgeable? of course. but pretty? absolutely? you think I and others want to see mark derosa and matt vaskersian all day on mlb network? no. you want to shoot yourself. that's why lauren shehadi is there. I could give a damn what she says because I'm staring at her legs the whole time. sex sells and Jessica Mendoza, regardless of what she knows or doesn't is a pretty female and the casual male viewer will bypass that. youre not going to have someone like rosie O'Donnell commentate because the average viewer will change the channel.

It's a free country.  I just have my own opinion and preference and I realize my opinion is out dated but that is how I feel.  I enjoy the fact that my wife is a house wife.  So does she.  It works for us.

Sure, so do I. But that's besides the point. When I watch a game, I want the color commentator to have a particular perspective, experience of being on a MLB playing field, interacting in a clubhouse, and being able to provide MLB anecdotes.

 

Gender really isn't the issue. It's more about having someone that provides a very specific kind of perspective and is also articulate in doing so.

blaylock > Mendoza. and I'm half Cuban. I don't think blaylock looks like a wookie, but more like a hot angelic beaver with ugly feet. Jessica Mendoza is meh to the highest power. average.

 

 

Seriously though, without overanalyzing it, I liked what I heard from Mendoza last night. She sounded knowledgeable, like listening to her would be easy as opposed to listening to someone who seems to know less than me and would thus make the broadcast a chore to watch. It's basically that simple, regardless of gender.

That's kind of illogical to say. He was a shitty commentator who didn't belong in the booth. Just because I prefer to have a MLB player in the booth doesn't mean that I endorse the likes of Joe Morgan.
