Posted September 2, 20168 yr Just thinking about CK's recent protest. Maybe I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that MLB has a policy that players are to stand and remove their caps for the playing of the national anthem. Right or wrong, an immediate suspension and/or loss of pay was the penalty. Maybe it's team policy, or maybe it's in the standard MLB players contract. If so, then obviously the NFL does not have a similar contact provision. Comments?

September 3, 20168 yr Elaborate on why? He talks about treating people like human beings as the basis for his protest then goes out in the press conference with a tshirt glorifying fidel castro.

September 4, 20168 yr Carlos Delgado didn't stand for the anthem if I recall. And Chris Jackson/ Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf for some time in the NBA.

In fact, it would be unconstitutional to have such a law. More so...Why would you want that? As an example, imagine Hillary or Trump win (one of them will) the election. And over time the country becomes more and more left or right leaning. Eventually, a law is passed requiring either one of two things...a phrase or prayer for a particular god be added all work and school texts...OR...god be removed from all government texts. Now...how would that make you feel? Wouldn't you want the right to make the loudest or biggest protest? I imagine that is how he is feeling. I have no evidence to believe the contrary. In fact, he feels strong enough to leverage his career on this feeling. The NFL understands that this is his right...and you cannot punish someone on the grounds of belief. The employer (the team and owner) COULD try to penalize him for causing detriment to said team...however...I think it would be a hard sell and, again, would likely end up in the supreme court. As for policy, Capitalism and the free market system are supposed to take care of a situation like this. If the public is against the product being presented or offered...then the public doesn't buy said product. If people are angry...ban the NFL. Or boycott it. Unless of course the freemarket system isn't free at all and it is systemically impossible to ban or boycott something that is too large and politically intrenched? 2. As for Fidel Castro, I don't think people outside of Cuba and Miami have the same understanding of Fidel Castro. He gets put under the same lens as Che and lauded for being a folk hero for the impoverished. Yes, erick and sdg210, it is hypocritical that a man who is exercising his first amendment right in one instance (Kapaernick) is applauding a man who has jailed writers and thinkers for being "dissidents." In the end, I never have a problem with someone exercising what THEY believe is right. We should never stop them...lest we be "castro-like" ourselves. That is what that flag means. It doesn't belong to anyone...it belongs to everyone. To note: I myself cannot imagine a scenario in which I would not stand or burn the flag.
