September 13, 20169 yr Cashner isn't worth two jock straps..another blunder of many that cost the Marlins a chance at the playoffs...you can't even make this stuff up
September 13, 20169 yr Mike Hill needs to go the way of Vince. And pronto. No, it's not that we are not smart enough to understand what he's doing. It's that he is not smart enough to understand what he's doing.

September 13, 20169 yr When would we just released all the former Padres in Cashner and Rodney, they both costed us too many games,of course including tonight.
September 13, 20169 yr Author They can be traded as long as they previously cleared waivers but they wouldn't be playoff eligible so trades are unlikely this time of year. Can't they be eligible if there's an "injury"? I seem to remember that's how KRod got his start, and David Price. Someone will trade a top 20 prospect for Cashner if they feel he's the three extra games they need- if you had AAA scrubs pitching days 4 and 5 like Houston you'd try it Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

September 13, 20169 yr You have to be in the organization by 9/1 to be playoff eligible under any circumstances. There's no way a player acquired today could play for his team in the playoffs.

You have to be in the organization by 9/1 to be playoff eligible under any circumstances. There's no way a player acquired today could play for his team in the playoffs. As mentioned, players acquired via trade in September are not eligible for their new team, and the same goes for those signed as free agents during that time. However, if a club wants to add a player who was not on the 40-man roster but was in the organization, it can petition the Commissioner's Office if that player is replacing someone who has been on the 60-day DL for at least 60 days. One notable example of this was pitcher Brandon Finnegan, who appeared in every stage of the 2014 postseason for the Royals despite the fact that he was not added to the 40-man roster until Kansas City purchased his contract from its Double-A club on Sept. 1 of that year. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/198674756/september-callups-and-roster-rules-explained/ So yes Piazza is correct there is an injury related way in which those added after Aug 31 can play in the postseason.
September 13, 20169 yr He has to be in the organization by 9/1. That's what I said. For instance Tyler Kolek (not on 40-man but in organization) could play for us in October if we had an injury. However if we acquired Andrew Miller today, he could not play in October for us under any circumstance.

Oh yea that's right, I was mislead by Piazza's injury question, which applies but only if they're in the organization already. Missed that part of it.

September 13, 20169 yr Said every girl Admin has ever approached. That's like reaching first on an error for him.
