October 31, 20169 yr If the Indians win the WS are they really going to be motivated to immediately trade away one of those players for an outfielder? They have at least some outfielders of note who are young. The Marlins are probably 4-5 years from actual contention. Losing the best RHP in the NL is not something you come back from easily. They have no farm to use to trade for a pitcher, since whatever they did have got sent to SD for a guy who didn't perform here and who won't be returning. Their two real options are either trading existing MLB talent or spending money. Even if they want to spend this FA class is not very good and they need pitching above anything else. So the only realistic way to get a half-decent pitcher is via trade, which gets extremely expensive.

I don't think that they should trade Stanton, but I think that all of the moves they make should be more about preparing for 4 years down the road than trying to compete in 2017.

November 1, 20169 yr I don't think that they should have an outright firesale, but they should be making moves opposite to what they did last year. IE selling relievers instead of overpaying for bad ones. Ramos needs to be unloaded at the break for prospects.
November 1, 20169 yr Can't so anything that will decimate attendance for asg season. exactly they have to make the appearance of doing something when in reality are doing nothing to address the larger issue (see the cashner trade although that will turn out to be pretty hilarious when padres trade Capps for a top 10 prospect and more next year)

They have at least some outfielders of note who are young. Definitely a fair question. Most teams who win the World Series keep mostly the same team. The Indians also have three outfielders who are capable hitters and fielders. Chisenhall, Guyer, and Naquin. Coco Crisp and Rajai Davis should not be major league starters for a good team. The Indians actually are able to let Crisp and Davis leave and save $18 million on the payroll. A closer look has me seeing that it isn't as perfect of a fit as I had assumed. The Indians pitching depth isn't as strong as I thought and they have outfielders. However, the entire Indians outfield (Crisp/Davis/Chisenhall/Guyer/Naquin) combined to produce around a 5 WAR season for the Indians. While only a 2.5 WAR player this season, at his peak Ozuna was worth 4.5 wins on his own (2014). A repeat 2016 season for Ozuna is worth half of the Indians current outfield, and a peak Ozuna is basically worth their entire offense. I think on the basis of value it isn't hard to see Ozuna as improving in the AL and becoming a star with the Indians.
