Not everyone thinks hes a cuck who shouldn't have owned this franchise. He bought it at a time the former owner wanted nothing to do with it because they wouldn't give him a palace and didn't want to wait or put the work into getting one. He jumped ship to the Red Sox to be a part of an ownership group, but not the ONE owner. Loria put in work, for 8 years or so to get us a stadium and to make sure this team stays in Miami for a very long time. That has to count for something. I think if he didn't own this team, we wouldn't have it anymore. It might be in San Antonio, Vancouver, Jacksonville, Washington, LA, Puerto Rico, New York, Vegas. It could have ended up anywhere but here with different ownership- and I strongly believe that. They may have gamed the system to get a stadium, they may have been cheap- but this team still brings me joy and the fact they'll be here whenever I decide to have kids and share it with them means a whole lot more to me than a World Series title or playoff birth from 2004-2025. The players come and go, Success comes and goes (See the heat, dolphins, panthers, canes). They may have been cheap and made bad roster decisions. But this team won't go anywhere for another 40 years atleast. I enjoy rooting for them, their moves confuse me sometimes- but the fact this team is in Miami for a very long time is truly his lasting legacy with this team, and for that I'm grateful.

February 22, 20179 yr Found some hot garbage fake news article with ten decisions that MLB teams must make before Opening Day and was surprised to read "The Marlins must decide if they will sell or not." What? How does that need to be decided before Opening Day? How does that matter? The thing says it's a distraction for the players but I don't see how. This has almost nothing to do with the on-field stuff. And again, after over a decade of everyone saying they hated Loria and that he should leave baseball immediately, it's amazing how many people are portraying this potential sale of the team as the worst news ever, as if it's a travesty, and as if they'd rather Loria not go. While yes, it's nice we got a stadium, it's gross that they lied about their profitability in order to extract concessions from the county during negotiations. Although it was even dumber for the county to not demand that the team show them their books, which is typically required in this sort of scenario.

Nobody here has claimed Loria got everything with the purity of an angel from heaven. I myself would rather have our team here based on Loria's lies than to have him be honest and have the team be in Las Vegas today. I don't care that he lied. While that sounds horrible and unethical, just as you said, the lawmakers who agreed to the deal are just as much at fault. If you ask me for $20 and I tell you I don't have it even though I have a $40 in my pocket I don't feel bad that I didn't give you the money.

February 23, 20179 yr IN MY HUMBLE OPINION: I'm certain that looking back at the off season acquisitions and Loria's willingness to spend $ on player,s a lot of us thought that something may be up. Finally the Marlins had the All Star game coming up and Loria getting older and with no heir apparent (really think he would give it to Samson??), there was some faint handwriting on the wall about a sale opportunity last year. My thoughts have been this would be the year of the sale. Price would probably be the highest and we had some players to look forward to as they matured. As well as some veterans we wanted to retain. Certainly Loria didn't need any more frustration, hassle, bad press, etc., in his "golden years". So why not sell. For me Jose's death hit me hard, and I still feel it. And I'll admit just the thought of spring training through the off period and now actual spring training makes my thoughts turn to Jose at least daily. What we lost, what baseball lost, and what his family lost (as well as the other families). I can't imagine what his mother, grandmother, girlfriend, close friends are feeling. And the team.......coming back to spring training has to be really rough seeing the #16 flag, the jokester/prankster not around, not his vivaciousness nor his smile. Let alone going back to the park/dugout/locker room/halls, etc., without Jose when they return in April. Then the first game and whatever permanent reminder will be there. I remember looking at Loria as he remained wearing sunglasses trying to do what he could for the fans, baseball, and Jose's family during the last couple weeks of September. Walking with the hearse. Everything done then was a class act, and Loria did and should receive many kudos for that. What does these events have in common? Well I don't know if anyone mentioned before but Loria reminded me of a grieving father in many respects during that time. And losing Jose may have been the last for Loria to want to face. Jose was no longer there and Loria wanting to watch the team, and how the games were so much more with Jose there, just didn't and won't bring the same feeling for him.....the same enjoyment of watching his "son" playing with his "guys". So just something I wanted to share with people who have been with the Marlins for a long period of time. And were there for those dreadful September days......and more days to come. .....JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION
