Ozuna is the next Cespedes?

Featured Replies

So,just give him 10 years / 300~350 million dollars contract extension right now.

Scott Boras, remember ?

I am hoping Ozuna has a monster year so we can sell high on him after the season. Being a Scott Boras client he isn't going to sign an extension here and Stanton's contract will already be high next year. Factor in the raises for Gordon and Yelich the payroll will definitely rise.

Chen also needs to have a good year so he can opt out. Otherwise that contract is gonna be an albatross.

Chris Archer ?

If he has a very strong year, maybe. If not headline a package for at least a good #2 and fill in other holes on the roster.

If we still be a "star player develop team" after the new owner coming,I really didn't see the difference…

I don't see the need to pay Ozuna an insane amount of money when we already tied ourselves up significantly to Stanton.

We need to replenish our depleted system and Ozuna could help with getting us back the prospects we needed. This is also banking on the idea that Mike Hill isn't the GM or they don't make another bone headed move.

How so

Cespedes is a very good player, but he's often treated as one of the best in the game, which he absolutely is not. He had an amazing 2015, but has not been more than above average since. He's also extremely overrated on defense, as a strong arm does not always make for a good outfielder.

He's just too inconsistent. Right now he's going good, but anytime he could revert into the same singles player he goes into... batting .240 with little power. I think Ozuna has great value for a short term extension, but he simply cannot be relied on to warrant a long term deal until he gets at least 1 full productive and consistent season. I am rooting for him. Definitely potential to be the best outfield in baseball and Marlins history with Stanton and Yelich.
