December 17, 200322 yr What the hell is Beinfest doing trading Redman for Mike Neu :angry come on is that the best he can do? That PTBNL better be good or the amount of cash has to be significant if not Beinfest loses my respect. Lets all hope with Redman gone this will allow us to sign Vlad.
December 17, 200322 yr how about you just chill out? Beinfest will lose your respect if the PTBNL isnt Rich Harden or if the money isnt 8 figures? please. this trade works out even if Vlad aint a Marlin
December 17, 200322 yr Hey, MarlinGm, just out of curiosity: How many times did you see Mike Neu pitch this year (since you obviously have, to be that upset about this) and what didn't you like about him?
December 17, 200322 yr Im 50/50 with this deal Neu is not bad and CHEAP but Beinfest could had done better than just Neu.
December 17, 200322 yr Mike Neu YEAR G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO W L Hld Sv BS BAA WHIP ERA 2003 32 0 42.0 43 18 17 2 26 20 0 0 0 1 0 .261 1.64 3.64 Solid stats IMHO.
December 17, 200322 yr Im 50/50 with this deal Neu is not bad and CHEAP but Beinfest could had done better than just Neu. Here's the answer: Arbitration-eligible players are usually less valuable in the market.
December 17, 200322 yr you didnt answer it in a form of a question DT "Trebek, how's your mother doing? Still dating her I suppose..." :lol
December 17, 200322 yr Author Mike Neu is a soft tossing righty who the A's pick up last season in the Rule 5 draft from the Reds. I guess im upset because I went from thinking Redman for Williamson to Neu :o I don't like this deal at all unless like I said this is an attempt to sign Vlad. But hey Beinfest has proved me wrong before and I sure hope he does again with the Neu deal.

Juan E got two years 8 mil.... you know for a guy who almost had 100 rbi's 4 mil a year isnt a bad asking price im mad we non tenderd his a** and now im mad for what we did with redman... all this $$$$$ they have saved up better go somewhere useful.....

December 17, 200322 yr look, the truth is, if this trade were just redman for neu, then we got horribly screwed. the clearing up payroll argument is retarded because we could have just as easily unloaded him to a dozen other teams. but we can't make a final assessment of this trade until we see the PTBNL or the money we get. until then, i'm not going to doubt beinfest.
December 17, 200322 yr Mike Neu is a soft tossing righty who the A's His fastball tops out at around 91-92, but he's got nasty movement on all his stuff. He was a dominant strikeout pitcher in the minors for a reason. His movement is filthy and he's got good control.
December 17, 200322 yr i like it. neu had an awesome era like in the low ones until the end. i was keeping an eye out for him in yahoo fantasy. also redman maybe got lucky with us. his era will prob be in the middle 4s through the rest of his career. neu is young and we need bullpen help.
December 17, 200322 yr Author Mike Neu YEAR G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO W L Hld Sv BS BAA WHIP ERA 2003 32 0 42.0 43 18 17 2 26 20 0 0 0 1 0 .261 1.64 3.64 Look at that Neu is a soft tosser yet he still has more walks than strikeouts plus a horrible WHIP. His best pitch is a change up.
December 17, 200322 yr Author More info on Neu from ESPN Mike writes: I rode a bus from Logan (Mass.) to Cape Cod a few years ago with a kid from California named Mike Neu. I gave him a pep talk because he was worried about his size. The scouts told him he was too short. I know he went to the minors eventually, but I haven't heard of him since, and don't know how to track him down. Any ideas about where he is? I've had my eye on Neu as a sleeper for a couple of years. He was a successful college pitcher for the University of Miami, but despite closing for the College World Series champs in '99, he was just a 29th-round pick by the Cincinnati Reds. He has a live arm, hitting 90 mph and showing a good breaking ball, but scouts discount him because he's a short right-hander, listed at 5-10 but probably shorter. We've discussed the irrational prejudice against short pitchers before, and Neu is another guy who has a chance to break that barrier. The most intriguing thing about his pro performance has been his strikeout rates. He fanned 95 in 69 innings in 2000, then 102 in 65 innings in 2001. This year he fanned 85 in 67 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A, racking up a combined 23 saves in the process. Neu's control can wobble at times, but the movement and velocity on his pitches is major league, and his high strikeout rate is an excellent sign for his future. He's clearly a sleeper who could slot in as a middle reliever with the Reds sometime next year. Rooting for guys like this is a big part of what makes baseball fun for me.
December 17, 200322 yr rotoworld's take on this trade: Mike Neu- R - Florida Marlins Dec 16 Marlins acquired RHP Mike Neu and a player to be named or cash from the Athletics for LHP Mark Redman. It's hard to believe the Marlins couldn't do better than this for a pitcher who was so solid last season. Neu, who spent 2003 in the majors because he was a Rule 5 pick, is a decent reliever without much upside. He'll probably have a spot in Florida's pen. To replace Redman, the team likely will sign a cheap fifth starter and just hope that he can be adequate until A.J. Burnett returns.
December 17, 200322 yr I personally don't like this s*** either. Although I support Beinfest in his decision to trade Lee, and although it was generally expected for Enc to be traded, I think we're getting ripped off with this trades. We just traded one of our more consistent starters for a reliever. Yes, we need bullpen help, but I do help that the Marlins sign either Palmeiro/Vlad/Javy or else the fan base is going to be a little jumpy....At the same time, I totally trust Beinfest's capabilities as GM, and those of you who are starting to use the term firesale to describe our team's recent activity don't know s*** about the Marlins organization.....a real firesale would be how the Reds and Pirates traded all their best players for prospects in the middle of the season...a real firesale would be how stupid a** Huizenga dismatled the team after the championship.
December 17, 200322 yr I wish the Dolphins would pull off an 1997-1998 offseason like the marlins did..... just start with prospects and wait till they become good and win the superbowl..... dammmmmmmmmmmm
December 17, 200322 yr I just wish the dolphins would fin a f***ing game!! but with Wayne Asszenga as the owner, I don't see it happening in the near future....
December 17, 200322 yr this deal was horrible and i think we are seeing the minor version of the dismantle they promised not to have...if they think they can rid of so many players that contributed so much last year and think we are not gonna be happy they got another thing coming...if this guy was the best we could get for redman then i feel very bad for our FO.
December 17, 200322 yr OK, it's late, and I am probably gonna sound like I am venting because I am tired...BUT...This had better be for $$$ to get Vlad or another big name free agent Marlins have gotten rid of Lee, Enc, Uggy, Pudge, Andy Fox, Redman, and I am probably missing someone else here but it sure looks like a low level fire sale to me...Granted Redman pooped out in the end, Lee and Enc were the dynamic "Anti-Clutch" duo, and Pudge was so-so until the playoffs, but it was a formula that worked and got them in to the big dance and now player after player is leaving...I really hope the Marlins get Vlad, but not at 6 years for gobs of cash, the guy will get injured and pull an Albert Belle down the road..The bullpen is a mess, the offense has lost some pop, more pressure on the young arms which means injuries...Right now, the picture looks like a mess with 2 months left to sort it out...I hope all this putzing around trying to get Vlad doesn't cost a chance at other big names which are being gobbled up left and right, leaving nothing left except Benitez (Whoopty-doo!!!!!!)... Last year the Marlins offered Clemens $13M(?) to come down for a year, but wouldn't at least offer Pudge a 3 year deal around the numbers he wants (@10M)? Enc was ok and at $4 or 5M plus Lee's $8 or 9M, they coulda kept more of this Champion team intact if they seriously felt they had no chance at Vlad... If the Marlins do not get any big names to replace the players who vacated from the World Champs, then Loria sneakily had a small fire sale under our noses, and there will be no chance of attempting another run at the play-offs...The more players that leave, and the less players we are getting back in return has me worried...No one will come back to the ballpark again, and kiss the stadium goodbye if that happens...How many no-shows will there be when the RIngs are given out next year? Ask COnine if he thinks this is '98 again...
