The Rebuild Series

Featured Replies

Every World Series should have a nickname. 2000 was the Subway Series. 2009 was the Liberty Series. If the Dodgers and Angels every played it would be the Freeway Series.

So I dub this world series the Rebuild Series. Two teams who in the past 10 or so years went through painful rebuilds resulting in multiple 100 loss seasons only to emerge as consistent powerhouses. These are the models that the Marlins need to reproduce.

The Nats were 187-298 (.386) from 2008-2010. They have been 730-566 (.563) since 2012. The Astros went 234-416 (.360) from 2011-2014. They are 481-329 (.594) since.

As a matter of fact, I don't like Nats' WS win. But, if it were to be a destiny, I want they would pick up the crown and go bust in NL east division.

It's very difficult to win WS as a WC. But it will be the our past and future story.

If you use hitting for the cycle as an analogy, the Nats have gotten the triple and homer out of the way by beating Cole and Verlander on the road. Two tough ones out of the way.

At this point it think it is more likely that the Nats will sweep than the Astros will win in 6.

This Nats team is reminding me of the 03 Marlins.

Compositionally they remind me of the 2010 Phillies or 2013 Tigers. Aging roster, bloated payroll, thinning farm system. I expect that in a few years they will be forced to reset. This should be the perfect time for the Marlins to pick up ground in the division.

Greinke is the double, then? I'm sure there is absolutely zero chance Astros go with a bullpen game for Game 4 at this point. Cole and Verlander are going to have to be ready for short rest.

No single for the Nats.

Don't be ridiculous, it's impossible for the Marlins to make up ground now. The regular season ended a month ago.

Greinke is in fact the double. Anyway the point of course being that if you picked the two toughest wins for the Nats it would be Cole and Verlander on the road with regular rest. Those two on short rest in DC might as well be the single as they would on paper be easier wins.

It suddenly occurred to me that other than the Rockies in 2007 the last NL team I was really pulling for to win the World Series was the Astros in 2005. Funny how I'm rooting against them now that they are an AL team.

The away team has won the first 2 games of a World Series 13 times. These are the only 3 examples of the other team coming back to win the series. However, the three instances have all occurred in the last 4 such series so recent odds are actually on the side of the Astros.

Also, note that this is the first time that the record of the team dictated where those first two games occurred. The better team could have been the road team in a good number of those instances.
