Pitching matchup:

Marlins: Trevor J'Daniel Rogers (1.97 ERA)

Rockies: Chi Chi González (4.84 ERA)

 

Stats to note:

Chi Chi is certainly a pitch to contact type of pitcher. His 12.3% K rate 6.9% BB are both well below average. Marlins have struggled with strikeouts and walks this year, but have done better when they make contact. Chi Chi's Hard contact rate is a lot higher than league average. Seems like a good recipe.

Trevor has increased his changeup usage from 18.7% last year to 25.4% this year. The Marlins have found the key to pitching success. Find guys with a big fastball and decent breaking pitch and then develop the changeup. Every guy who has succeeded seems to fit that mold.

Tonight is the 30th anniversary of Miami and Denver being awarded expansion teams. Interesting that we play them tonight. Wonder if that was planned.
