Brian Anderson is a Gold Glove caliber 3rd baseman. If not for Nolan Arrenado, he would have one already.  He's probably the best defensive 3rd baseman the Marlins have ever had.

He didn't have Nolan to compete with.  I've watched most games since the inception of the franchise.  Lowell was really good defensively but BA is better than him.  At least in my opinion.

I guess that’s what it comes down to, opinion. Cause statistically BA is at best an average third baseman by statistical metrics. However, when the game was on the line I would have taken Lowell a million times to one over BA who has a penchant for booting balls when it matters most. Just as numbers don’t tell the story of this bullpen shitting the bed when it matters, sometimes the eye test works just as well.

A Gold Glove is someone who extends their position at its very depths with consistency in every situation.  BA does not fall under that category IMO.  He’s solid for sure but he’s no GG. 

You won’t find any montage highlights of BA as a 3B that’s for sure. 

Derek Jeter has 5 gold gloves. He was a defensive wizard!

Which metrics have him rated poorly?  Serious question.  Also, he finished as the GG runner up to Nolan last year.  BA is an average hitter but his glove is great. I'll take him over Lowell any day.  He has more range and a stronger arm than Lowell.

You're definitely in the minority in your opinion of BA's defensive work.  He was a runner up in the GG last year to Arrenando.  His peers definitely have a high opinion of his glove work. 

Also, before you throw out a Jeter reference in regards to a GG, keep in mind that players today have alot more access to information than ever. It's not like in the past.

I’m comfortable being in the minority on this one when saying BA isn’t a pure GG.   Pure GG are the likes of Arrenado, Scott Rolan, Jeter & Jim Edmonds.  They define the skill set of what I believe is a pure GG player.  I stay away from words like caliber, peers & potential when proving a point because it means nothing.  My standards are just higher on how I view a GG and like I said, BA is a solid 3B when healthy (Rarely). 

I didn’t use a GG reference with Jeter.  I made a joke about being cheap.
