Attended Vega Baja (Puerto Rico) High School and became first player out of Puerto Rico ever selected in first round of June draft when Astros took him with 17th overall pick in the 1994 draft... rated by Baseball America as the 12th-best position player available in that draft.

Thats nice to see that hes doing well in the winter league.

 

Hopefully he can continue to hit for power throughout a full season next year as he gets more at bats.

and remember that in his last 2 season he has hit 1 HR each 14 AB. (and last year hitting 1 every 10) which is the most out of all the marlins players.

Hes getting on base at a good rate for a catcher...great BB/K ratio as well. I hope he can pick up some offensive slack we are going to have in 04...barring a miracle (Vlad).

I agree. Most likely low average...around .240-.255 with 25+ homers and 80+ walks.

I still don't see his average dipping down that low, but the homers and RBI will be there.

It was only 50 at-bats, all indications that I have seen would lead me to believe he'll hit somewhere in the .240-.250 range. I'd be ecstatic if he hit over .250.

The best indications of his ability as a starter to me are to look at how he did in his last starting role, which was triple-A. He happened to hit upwards of .325 in both his years as a starter at the triple-A level.

 

I won't make any FINAL batting average predictions, because it could be argued that he could hit anywhere from .240 to .300, but I'll say somewhere in the neighborhood of .280.
