December 29, 200322 yr I think Castro just needs some playing time on a regular basis... He was a first round draft pick back in the day...Let him show why he was picked high in the draft
December 29, 200322 yr Attended Vega Baja (Puerto Rico) High School and became first player out of Puerto Rico ever selected in first round of June draft when Astros took him with 17th overall pick in the 1994 draft... rated by Baseball America as the 12th-best position player available in that draft.
December 29, 200322 yr Thats nice to see that hes doing well in the winter league. Hopefully he can continue to hit for power throughout a full season next year as he gets more at bats. Nice OPS .914 :thumbup
December 29, 200322 yr Solid performance! If Castro brings this success into next season we will have no worries.
December 30, 200322 yr I am loving the HR and OBP, Hopefully he can keep this up in the majors. and remember that in his last 2 season he has hit 1 HR each 14 AB. (and last year hitting 1 every 10) which is the most out of all the marlins players.

December 31, 200322 yr My man Ramon is going to have a great season. I agree. Most likely low average...around .240-.255 with 25+ homers and 80+ walks. Thats very good for a catcher in PPS.
December 31, 200322 yr I still don't see his average dipping down that low, but the homers and RBI will be there.
December 31, 200322 yr If he hovers his average between .260-.280 in the majors I'll be happy. Agreed. Ramon will be a productive major league starter, and that's all I really care about.

I think we are being a bit optimistic about his batting average...I'd be happy with anything over .240 as long as the walks are there...
December 31, 200322 yr Why do we have such low expectations for him I mean in 50 abs he hit what .290? Geez, he can hit the ball don't worry.
December 31, 200322 yr Why do we have such low expectations for him I mean in 50 abs he hit what .290? Geez, he can hit the ball don't worry. It was only 50 at-bats, all indications that I have seen would lead me to believe he'll hit somewhere in the .240-.250 range. I'd be ecstatic if he hit over .250.

It was only 50 at-bats, all indications that I have seen would lead me to believe he'll hit somewhere in the .240-.250 range. I'd be ecstatic if he hit over .250. How do all indications point to that? He had all of 52 at-bats. How much can really be indicated in that little time? The best indications of his ability as a starter to me are to look at how he did in his last starting role, which was triple-A. He happened to hit upwards of .325 in both his years as a starter at the triple-A level. I won't make any FINAL batting average predictions, because it could be argued that he could hit anywhere from .240 to .300, but I'll say somewhere in the neighborhood of .280.
