As said elsewhere - the Garcia BB/K is the really concerning harbinger of suck. They can peel off DLC for some games against RHP for Garcia right now for sure, but Garcia needs to be in there for lefties and half righties to work through this. I have no problem with that, but let's not be delusional a .382 BABIP DLC is anything more than a replacement player.

The real fix here is trading for Laureano/CF, kicking DLC to AAA, and you get to bench Aguilar versus lefties (playing Garcia/Cooper/Soler), and one of Garcia/Soler/Cooper against righties with whoever is least hot. They need the massive upgrade. I've been saying this for months before the season and literally nothing has changed at all about the longterm prognosis of this team.

When everyone here stops crying about (1) obvious concerns day 1 of needing 1 more major bat minimum and (2) understands it's 24 games and the season is very long so don't be too worried about insane BABIP performances. If we said opening day they are 12-12 with a positive run differential and Soler, Garcia, and Aguilar have a combined .600 OPS. The reactions would be a look of confusion and then fist pumps as so much else is going right there is something to be excited about.

Here’s the thing though, many of us weren’t hanging banners after the 7 game win streak. Just like I’m not claiming the season is over after a 3 game stretch in May. 
 

The frustration isn’t result oriented in the micro sense. It’s that we’ve been waiting for years to see this rotation come together. For the most part, it’s here. It’s ready. You have a top line rotation all on rookie deals and an ace on an incredibly team friendly (even for the marlins) deal. 
 

It’s go time. They’ve been telling us to hold off, just wait, be patient for 3 years. Ok, the arms are here. Let’s go. And this was the offseason/offense they put together? 

You might like the acquisitions more than me, and that’s fine. But understand that if someone didn’t like the acquisitions to begin with, it’s not about 7 or 3 random games here or there, it’s about watching a team with already limited assets to begin with already sink considerable $$$ into a pit named Avi Garcia. It’s about watching how they’re fundamentally approaching offense and disagreeing with it.
 

it’s not about a series here or a series there, or being 14 or 40. It’s about a fundamental difference is roster construction and overall offensive approach. The types of players they’re targeting. That’s not something that simply changes in August. 
 

My frustration boils down to projecting the “what 2021 could look like” roster for 3 years now, compared to seeing the reality of what Kim Ng has built. And it’s just not good enough IMO. You might disagree, but it’s not an over reactive opinion.  

They’ve got 1 more bullet left in the chamber. It’s the big offensive trade that’s been discussed constantly. That move is going to determine our ceiling during this window. For a team with limited assets, you only really get 1 shot at this move. It better be right. 
 

Do we trust Kim Ng, based on her track record so far, to be the trigger person for that move? A move that will play a major role in how we view the rebuild as a whole? Thats the lens I’m viewing this through.

DLC has earned a bench job and when his BABIP normalizes and he still has a .750+ OPS and playing great defense, then we can talk about supplanting someone as a starter.

That being said, he can peel off a start a week versus RHP versus Garcia while he's struggling but that's about it.

Yes it is go time so as discussed enough already - why is culprit # 1 Ng when PAYROLL IS UNDER $80M AFTER NOT SPENDING ANYTHING FOR 4 YEARS AND GETTING TV/NAMING FINALLY DONE. CULPRIT # 1 IS BRUCE AND NEARLY ALL ANGER SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARDS HIM FOR BEING A CHEAPSKATE. Why are we not all up in arms about that? I am. It's PATHETIC payroll is so low. They could have dropped Correa and Rodon on top of this team (with trading for Reynolds!) and had a below average payroll. It's insane. Imagine that team adding those three guys and kicking off Aguilar, DLC, and Armstrong/Head.

So one bullet left in the chamber? NO NOT AT ALL. WRONG ATTITUDE. They have one TRADE bullet for sure (as they can't trade 66% of their top 12 prospects) but in no way, shape, or form do they not have the resources to do multiple moves and your comments where you implicitly "accept" their low payroll I absolutely reject to my core. We as a fan base hold them to the standard of a normal, average MLB baseball team. This isn't an Oakland or Tampa situation with no stadium and not being in as good of a media market like Miami. They need to build their business. They need to invest in it. As I keep saying - you can't say we'll bake better bread if you start buying a lower quality one now. And if they aren't going to do it, they should sell the team to someone who will. This team has the ability to make MULTIPLE major moves when the pitching staff is going to cost them nothing for 5-7 years. It's time for this fan base to stop having a defeatist attitude that they are poor. They are not by any stretch of the imagination. They are CHEAP. Jeter looks to be the canary in the CHEAP coal mine here so I feel him entirely.

 

That being said - Ng could have done more with the bullshit resources she was given. Namely a CF (sorry we must discuss) and there is redundancy with Soler/Aguilar/Cooper so Aguilar should have probably been DFA'd for a more suitable guy they'd use more. She didn't do it. I fault her for that. Reports today say they tried to get Ramirez before Cleveland resigned, so they look to be big game hunting so that's good. I don't think we have enough information to declare Ng good/bad forever today (especially on SSS veteran struggles), but pretty much every move makes sense on paper besides those two I mentioned above - no CF and very strange positional redundancy with Soler/Aguilar/Cooper. I guess we can include keeping Don in this also, so three skeptical decisions so far. Soler/Garcia are many hundreds of PA away (minimum) from concluding on those. Soler seems to be having some real SSS issues, but that BB/K is really bad for Garcia so we'll see what happens. And to note - I don't really like these acquisitions. I'd have bet more on Lewin/Bleday/Burdick, and do some other things. But they financially are fine deals in the scope of MLB so I appreciate the procedure of the deal. I would have chucked Aguilar/Soler/Garcia and got Correa (same money) and bet on Bryan Reynolds/Brandon Marsh even if cost pitchers we love. But my overall point is - it is over dramatic to be crushing them in really any area for 24 games. This happens every year. Let the season play out and we'll know in 4-6 weeks who this team is. My guess is, they are 3 games from .500 and teeter that line all year as that is who they are.

I do think we have to give her some credit - though it's very much been a "one thing at a time" approach, she has seemingly done well with the trades she HAS executed.  Whether that translates to the "major" trade?  We don't know.  And the jury is still out on the FA signings.

It shouldn't be good enough for any of us - so pass the blame on an egregious $80m payroll and Bruce not getting Correa and assuring the FO to "go for broke" in a trade for Reynolds and we'll sign a FA SP in a year if we have to.

People around here need to realize it starts from the TOP and they are CHEAP.  As well as chill out on a 24 game sample size.
