May 4, 20224 yr I don't see how Ng or Mattingly make it to next season. Not to mention half the players on the active roster.
May 4, 20224 yr They should move Hernandez to the bullpen, demote Bender for a few weeks to get straight. Sandy, Pablo, Rogers, *Meyer*, Luzardo Bass, Sulser, Poteet, Hernandez, Head Bleier, Scott, Okert Floro kicks Head back to AAA also. Let the rest fight to effectively take Poteet's spot. That's a good problem. And trade for a CF immediately. They need an offensive jolt.
May 4, 20224 yr Don: Ho hum. Another 1 run loss. We were close so I'll do everything the same next game...

May 4, 20224 yr well, i tried ignoring the team to see if they'd make a comeback @SonOfJack but alas i can't help the fact that Bender absolutely freaking sucks as a closer and that we continue to trot Hernandez out there when likely better options exist in the minors.
May 4, 20224 yr I just can't help but think how awful of a situation Jeter left us in. Bottom of the barrel manager, bottom of the barrel GM, a hope and a prayer that a bunch of prospects save the day.

Like I am defending Garcia here more than anyone on a SSS struggle, but clearly, Sanchez is a better option. And why isn't a lefty reliever coming in for the 9th?
May 4, 20224 yr Not crispy. From what could have been a huge losing streak ended to a crushing loss. Seeing “In play, run(s)” on game day was right after seeing that they took the lead…

Can't bring in anyone but the closer for the ninth. Bender is "our guy". I think it's part of the new CBA.
May 4, 20224 yr I am also amazed that Bender managed to get beat on the slider again when he throws 99 with movement.

And if that means Mattingly has to go, it means he has to go. They need someone who will analytically play their splits as this team has absolutely no margin of error. They aren't built for 1980s baseball. That being said, .500 is a good result for them right now. Don't get killed on the west coast trip. Win at least 3. Trade for a CF. Laureano is back this weekend BTW.

Agreed, when they went to a RH pitcher, he should have countered with Sanchez even if it meant burning Avi. Stupid decision.

People can say what they want about Kim Ng, but one thing she’s done well is the bullpen. We have 3 lefties who can be used in high leverage if necessary. The manager becomes “old school” in situations like this. Meanwhile, we’ve mostly been platooning our best young players. Annoying.
May 4, 20224 yr Okert should’ve been used to start the 9th inning and then you can go to Bender if Walker comes up. It was pretty obvious.

Mattingly has shown too many times that he does not look at or consider splits or analytics of any kind. Even the stupid ass shifts the team does on defense show it. He plays EVERY hitter to pull, regardless of the pitcher he's facing. They had a huge shift on Ketel Marte today, a guy who can hit the ball to any field and guess what he did? Beat the shift.
