Really?

those things he said ain't wrong though - perhaps the tone is that this team is completely shitty (which is wrong) but Don and Ng both kinda suck at their job and they CLEARLY hope prospects are going to save them because they hoard them like no other team I know of.

Send Bender and Hernandez to AAA and call up Meyer and Floro.  Let Hernandez transition to the pen in AAA.

Honesty,  our offense isn't good and I'm not going to defend it.  However, it's not like we got shutout this series. We scored 4, 4, and 7 runs and got swept. That's on the pitching.  We had 3 terrible starts in a row and Bender also blew it today.  If the SP pitch to their ability, we take 2 of those games. The SP is what fueled our 7 game streak.

Also, at some point, Berti and De La Cruz are gonna have to start taking more playing time from Soler, Avi and Rojas. At least until they stop looking pathetic at the plate.  It's the second month of the season. They should have enough ABs under their belt to get going already.

Hopefully the SP gets back to normal on the west coast trip and we should get rolling again.  We're still in good shape being at .500.

shifts that are based on an old school understanding of baseball, too. even when Don tries to be analytic, he ends up just being anus.

The shifts are terrible and I hate them.  However,  wouldn't shifts come from our analytic department and not Don?

Hernandez would have to clear waivers I believe, so he just goes to the pen.

They can send down Bender and should.

Gotta play Rojas against LHP, but Berti can steal time from Soler/Aguilar/Garcia/Cooper until they warm up (Anderson shifts to OF). They can play Berti for Anderson/Jazz against left handers if he is again going to play like this.

DLC should be sent to AAA and they should get a longterm CF. The DLC fascination here with a close to .400 career BABIP is like being excited over Alfaro having a .400 BABIP before he got here. We know where this story ends and they need to proactively improve here before the bottom drops out.

Agree fully - the sky isn't falling. If they are .500 August 1st I'm happy.

the shifts themselves, yeah I guess. But maybe not how often they're deployed or the game situation at stake? Not sure, but you're making me think our analytics department is hot garbage too. I've seen way too many guys played to pull even when the guy on the mound is throwing 100 mph. Or way too many guys with a batted ball profile down the line with Soler playing LCF. It's like the Marlins remembered the "hit it where they ain't" wrong and thought it was "play them where they ain't hitting" or something.

I think Hernandez has options left.  We got him as a rule 5 and he's been on the MLB roster (unless injured or rehab) ever since.

I realize De La Cruz has a high BAPIP.  I'm just focusing on the results right now and not future production.  If De La Cruz is lucky, let's ride that luck until it runs out. Once he starts to fizzle, just send him to AAA.  We just need to buy more time until one of Soler or Avi get going.

Honestly,  our best bet is to move Jazz to SS and let Berti and Wendle platoon at 2nd base.  Let Rojas be the utility guy.  That will also give Anderson more playing time at 3rd Base which is his best defensive position.  I do worry about the impact a move to SS would have on Jazz's psyche. Might just be best for his offense to leave him at 2nd and not put undue stress on him.

Elieser has 2 options left. He's also been really, really bad (6.16 FIP) but has a career 5.32 FIP so it may just be time to understand that he's not very good at baseball.

Yes, I think they put these shifts together and don't take our pitchers approach into account.  Not many guys are going to turn around all of the 96 plus fastballs our guys throw.

It wasn't the options - it was the service time I was thinking. I just checked the rules. Players with more than FIVE seasons of service time can't be optioned. I thought it was 3 years (since he is already in arbitration and that would make sense). So yes, he can be optioned even though he is the.....12th most veteran and 14th most expensive player in the organization. What a world. So thats....

Sandy, Pablo, Rogers, *Meyer*, Luzardo
*Floro*, Bass, Sulser, Poteet, Head
Bleier, Scott, Okert

AAA - Cabrera, Bender, Hernandez, Pop, Holloway

Just save Poteet for the Meyer day in case he is needed and Poteet/Head can be optioned if they needfresh  innings.

The best alignment would be Anderson-Wendle-Jazz vs RHP and Anderson/Berti-Rojas-Jazz/Berti vs LHP. You definitely leave Jazz at 2B and just shield against "some" not "all" lefties.

I'd let Soler/Garcia/Aguilar work themselves out for a few weeks. Maybe a spot bench here and there. They need them. This is still a SSS.

All DLC has done is hit since he's been called up to MLB. Idk why yall keep calling it Luck. In 215 ABs  he's hitting .298

I will kill myself if I'm Bender. Marlins is the smartest team in the world to not spending on a REAL CLOSER and force a poor guy to blown save OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

I just can't help but think how awful of a situation Jeter left us in.

Bottom of the barrel manager, bottom of the barrel GM, a hope and a prayer that a bunch of prospects save the day.

Eh, there's a glass half full scenario there too. Jeter chose that manager and that GM. And he left us with that bunch of prospects that "should" be used to get use better. He left us with a good foundation that could be a great team with the right additions, which makes this the more frustrating.

Because he has a .382 BABIP. It is luck.

At best, he's probably a .270/.325/.400+ hitter moving forward. That is optimistic. More realistically, he's probably .250/.300/.375+. There is floor below that also. He's an OK bench player at best. He likely has no future with this team just like Harold Ramirez. Empty .700ish OPS corner outfielder who plays average-ish defense.

Yeah I love the logic of some of the people on here. All DLC has done had get hits last year and this year but it's "good luck" so even though he's hot let's send him down and play the guys who are sucking because they're having "bad luck".  I swear Don has multiple accounts on here sometimes. I'd take DLC over Soler full time any day of the week. He's better defensively, he's faster, and he appears to be a better hitter in the 200+ pa's we've seen him in.

He's better defensively and faster, and will never be as good as Soler

What is SSS?

Small sample size - basically a bunch of cry babies on the board complaining about 24 games and missing the forest from the trees. Baseball is a marathon. A hot few games at this point in the season radically impacts season stats.

If everyone still sucks in a month, then it's time to get worried. I'll bet Garcia (.501), Soler (.587), and Aguilar (.631) are much much better here on out, which is both it simply has to be and luck has not been on their side (except for Aguilar, his power is just sapped for some reason which seems flukey).

The only thing I have some real concern with is Garcia's radically dropping BB/K. That is so outrageously bad it may transcend a SSS/luck factor. I don't know what's going on with him, but we'll see. Everyone else will probably start hitting very soon.

Weren't you the guy who just said DLC would have a .700s ish ops as a corner OF? That's pretty much what Soler does in an average season as well. His career ops is .789 and that's buoyed by a couple great seasons. He's usually around .740ops. I'll take DLC with the better defense, speed, and nearly identical ops at the cheaper rate. Thanks.

I think the point is more that we're trying to win games, and them being a black hole isn't helping, so why play them right now?

Yes, because that is who DLC is.

I would argue, Soler is usually around a .789 OPS as Soler's OPS is .789. Soler's three year split (May 4th 2019-now) is .238/.335/.484 (.819). So he is actually better than that, because you know, judging him from 2015-2018 is pretty dumb.

Soler should be this teams permanent-ish DH with them getting a really above average CF.

You are very wrong here and are having an emotional response to a SSS bad start, which buoyed by a low BABIP. Thanks.

Because they have to play them to work things out.

As said elsewhere - the Garcia BB/K is the really concerning harbinger of suck. They can peel off DLC for some games against RHP for Garcia right now for sure, but Garcia needs to be in there for lefties and half righties to work through this. I have no problem with that, but let's not be delusional a .382 BABIP DLC is anything more than a replacement player.

The real fix here is trading for Laureano/CF, kicking DLC to AAA, and you get to bench Aguilar versus lefties (playing Garcia/Cooper/Soler), and one of Garcia/Soler/Cooper against righties with whoever is least hot. They need the massive upgrade. I've been saying this for months before the season and literally nothing has changed at all about the longterm prognosis of this team.
