5/18- Nationals at Marlins- 6:40PM

Featured Replies

The second best team in the National League East takes on the worst team in the National League East and the second worst team in baseball in a Wednesday night game with the Marlins looking for a sweep.

Pablo Lopez (4-1, 1.05 ERA) on the mound for the Marlins, Josiah Gray (4-3, 4.34 ERA) for the Nationals in a battle of the two teams' aces.

Jesus Aguilar is 0-for-5 against Gray, but every other Marlins starter has at least one hit against him already. Cooper (2-for-3), and Brianderson (2-for-4 with a HR) are likely the most excited to see Gray on the mound, which means this might be a day off for them both.

Will Erik Gonzalez start his third game in a row?

Find out later, on MarlinsBaseball period com.

I really thought Gray would be better than he's been thus far.

Me too. He's actually been pretty lucky too, his ERA is at 4.34 but his xERA is 4.90 and FIP is 5.39. SIERA is a little kinder at 4.26. The home run has been a huge issue for him, he's a flyball pitcher (only 30.5% ground balls last year and down to 21.9% this year) and he's giving up homers on about 17% of his flyballs. 2.42 HR/9 last year improving a bit to 1.93 this year but still way way way too high. He still gets swings and misses when he's around the strikezone, but he needs to throw more strikes and throw down in the zone more often. He pretty much started pitching as a sophomore in college, so he still has things to figure out, but he has really good upside. Hopefully he starts to figure things out when the Nationals play the Braves and Phillies.

Now he'll pitch a 2 hit shutout today. Thanks Paul.

both hits by Erik Gonzalez, who gets the start over Jazz.

I want Josiah Gray to pitch fantastically well for 6 innings while Pablo goes 7 (or 8 innings) and the team scores 10 runs off the Nats bullpen. 🙂

[Gray is now on my fantasy team so I need that, ya know?]

[The only one I have now.]

[We're not playing each other this week, but you're only one game behind me in the standings, so I hope the Marlins score 30 runs in the first inning today.]

[Oh ... don't look at my game's current score then.]

That guy always makes really good points and is also handsome.

Could have easily been fixed by sending down Castano and calling up someone like Dunand to at least be able to cover the infield positions.

If ANYONE gets hurt tonight...there's no one available.

Payton Henry.

Third baseman.

So if they had to because of injuries in tonight's game they'd just bring in bullpen pitchers to play in the field and take the corresponding spots in the lineup?
