hovertical
man. how far BA has fallen with the club. I hope Ng is hoping on actually upgrading the team with usable players. BA wasn't great but he wasn't awful either and likely would have been fine as a 6-7 hitter had they upgraded elsewhere. As @MarlinsLou said on another thread he could have at least been a nice throw-in for a club in need of some stability as part of a larger trade. Oh well, onward and upward I guess. Ng better be prepared to sign some people if her stalwarts are being non-tendered.
Das Texan
If Brian Anderson had any real trade value, he would have been traded at some point in the last 18 months. He wasnt and that speaks volumes to his perceived worth around baseball. He will catch on somewhere and be a bench utility guy. Not a giant trade market for those types. SilverBullet
Did Brian Anderson become shit because Kim Ng said he shouldn't be extended or was he always gonna become shit and Kim was actually smart to see this coming?

As a really good player just a couple years ago, I have to believe they tried trading him and today's news means no one wanted him.

Brian Anderson was never really that good to start with, it was just that the Marlins were SO BAD that Brian Anderson looked real good compared to the rest.

Ehh, I dunno about that. 2019 and 2020 he was looking really good and I don't think that was just because of the team he was on.

Teams know the Marlins have IF depth (Jazz, Rojas/Wendle, Berti, Groshans, LeBlanc, and now Edwards on 40 man), so a non-tender was likely even if he is a good player when healthy. I think there is a trade market for bench guys as teams are understanding this depth really adds up (see Rays forever and frankly, Wendle. I do think we will see Rojas or Wendle traded this offseason for a FV40 prospect, and Berti would get them something good, etc.), but for $4.6m or whatever and injury concerns? Take your chances he is DFA'd and can sign him for $2.5m with incentives. So this is where you say, they should be AGGRESSIVELY trying to get an Arizona CF or Rosario or whoever and Brian Anderson and kicking in $1-2m to those teams to help pay his deal, he becomes a great throw-in for teams needing a multi-position right handed hitter with some real upside if he can just stay healthy. He was very solid 2018-2020 and pretty ok in 2021 TBH. All roads lead back to Bruce - they should be using payroll as a weapon to try and take on bad contracts for better players, and pay off some of these guys like BA to other teams who would be more interested at him being $3m to try and get someone longterm. Spending call it $2m to get a FV40 prospect you like in AA is a GOOD deal in a world Evan Fitterer or Will Banfield costs you $1.5m overslot to sign as an 18 year old right? This one isn't too big of a deal as best case scenario, he was a sweetner or you got a FV40 prospect that's somewhere in Marlins top 15-20 range and that's a slim at best success rate. We can live without that without real FO criticism here, but it would have been nice to get something. So all eyes back on where's the CF? Where's the SS (or 1B) upgrade? What SP is/are being traded, and do you need to sign one and who is that? Who is the last reliever for the team as clearly you need another right hander? I think it's the injury. He's the kind of guy that gets healthy, has a good year or two (maybe like a Drury sort of out of nowhere year), and we have brief nostalgia about. But, that doesn't change today where this is a whatever decision. Just a little frustrating they couldn't get that AA arm that throws 98 with a high walk rate they think they can fix.
