Correa to Twins - 6/200 - Will This One Happen?

What the hell?

Reminds me of when I was a young man, and that time I gave Papa John's my notice to go find greener pastures, but turned down an offer from Dominos and signed again with Papa Johns.

Even with the healthy issue ?

Yes.  The "issue" hasn't been an issue his whole ML career - on a 6 year deal, it's not a big deal.

That's crazy compared to regular contracts anyway..

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweets that the first of four vesting options for Correa is valued at $25MM and is contingent on him tallying 502 plate appearances in the contract’s sixth, final guaranteed season. Ronald Blum of the Associated Press reports that all of Correa’s vesting options are contingent upon that same 502 plate appearance threshold. The second, third and fourth vesting options are valued at $20MM, $15MM and $10MM, respectively, per Blum.

This is interesting. If Boras declined that then it means he doesn't think Correa could pass that annual physical. Man what was the health issues, can't wait until that comes out one day.

Does that mean if he happened to get injured in one of the years and then couldn't pass the physical in the offseason the team would let him go?

That would have been a horrible deal for him, if so.

I wouldn't think an injury means not passing a physical. I'm assuming you could be injured and then they check that you're healing properly and still clear you. It sounds more like it was a way to periodically check whatever that big injury concern is. Though I'm sure the Mets could have manipulated that to get out of his contract down the line if they wanted to.

Correa will receive an $8MM signing bonus and annual salaries of $36MM in 2023-25, $31.5MM in 2026, $30.5MM in 2027 and $30MM in 2028, tweets Rosenthal. The signing bonus will be paid out in two installments, half in 2023 and half in 2024.
