Optical illusion? From the bag on them perhaps?

People are speculating in the comments so got me wondering.

Its too clear and consistent across the entire jersey to be an optical illusion.

Them's pinstripes.

ERECTION.

If Marlins are bringing back a throwback into the consistent rotation there's a new issue that has come up. Nike has set up a stupid new "rule" that teams can only have four jerseys total, including the spring training/BP jersey but not including the City Connect. The Marlins already have four. They would supposedly need to drop one to add in a throwback. When I first heard this I assumed it was a suggestion more than a hard rule but the Mariners just dropped their gray and powder blue jerseys to fit with this rule so it may be actually getting enforced. 

I hate the rule. I don't believe teams need 6 or 7 jerseys but if some teams wants to do it then so what, let them. Why force them to cut any? Let the teams decide that. And besides, shouldn't Nike enjoy that more jerseys means more crap for fans to purchase? 

Maybe the Marlins will drop their home whites for the old pinstripes instead.

The home whites are literally right there next to the pinstripes in the picture.

I blew up the image.  The left is clearly an illusion of multiple pants lining up under the plastic.  The middle is clearly the existing home whites without pinstripes.  The right absolutely looks like pinstripes though.  You can see the stripes ending at the rounded cut of the jersey.  No way that's an illusion of stacked jerseys or plastic. 

 

If that comment about the number of jerseys at 4 is right, though, does that mean we straight up lose the blue ST jersey?

 

1) Home White

2) Road Gray

3) Black Alt

4) Pinstripe Throwback?

 

I'd ditch the black alt in favor of a blue alt (copy paste the design/layout of the black one but have it blue).

Does the ST/BP jersey count towards the 4 jersey limit? I thought only in-game jerseys are limited to 4.

To be fair, we also don't see the gray road nor the black alt jerseys in the picture either, and I doubt those are dropped.

 

So it doesn't necessarily mean the blue ST one is gone.  But it wouldn't fit under that "4+1" rule either if directly applied across any active baseball (ST+regular season+postseason).

 

None of the articles I can find mention ST.

They all count. The Mariners eliminated their spring jersey and their gray one to get to the 4.

The blue one counts

4 total and the City Connect

Blue could be gone then. Not like we were really using it anyway.

Some fans have been speculating that they will switch the blue to teal and that would be a way to begin the phasing out of it. Of course, thats all just fan speculation.

That sounds like wishful thinking. I can see the throwbacks becoming more prominent but I doubt they get away from the current look.

The Mariners just announced they dropped 2 jerseys including their spring one to fit their 4 so the spring does count.

“When Nike/MLB made the move to a maximum of four jerseys per club, we were required to reduce our jersey set by two,” explained Senior Vice President, Marketing & Communications Kevin Martinez in an email to SportsLogos.Net. “Based on player and fan feedback, we eliminated our powder blue jersey, which we have worn in Spring Training, and our grey jersey.”

I've said for years it's sad they're relegating the most unique one to just ST and now seemingly the scrap heap, in favor of everyone's favorite color - black.

 

I don't see them swapping to teal.  Why would they?  So they can just not use it either?

To be fair though, most of these Marlins uniform decisions were likely made with Jeter's direction so all of this could change at any point.

Yeah, I suppose that's true.  But I also feel like it'd be odd for them to announce a uniform/branding switch at this point in the offseason just a month before ST starts, and after their signings debuted in the current set.

 

For reference, the 2012 and 2019 rebrands were announced in November of 2011 and 2018.

Oh yea rebrands are announced around the holidays, I didn't mean announcing anything that big now. I more so meant that their uniform "philosophies" like keeping the blue as a BP look and making the black so prominent or their lack of throwbacks could change whenever they feel like it.
