Yeah, this is a self-inflicted one in the sense that they purposely didn't do anything to help.

Unfortunately, another fire sale is necessary since Jeter/Ng botched the last one. There is next to no hitting on this team with none in the pipeline either. Not much of a future for last year’s team, even if they miraculously made the playoffs with 84 wins and a negative run differential. Edited April 9, 20242 yr by SoFlaKingReal

There's enough talent on this team that they could add pieces via trade and/or free agency if they actually tried and could be competitive. You don't need to do a full on teardown every time the team is struggling. In theory a real fire sale should only happen rarely and then you keep the team competitive in other ways along the way. Having to do a fire sale frequently means you're definitely not doing it right.

Until there is a strong foundation created through draft and development, this team will just be kicking the can down the road trying to patch massive holes by trading what little minor league talent they have.
