January 11, 200422 yr so he could step into beckett's level. that would be something He has the stuff, and he has the mentality, he just needs to learn to mix it up and have confidence in every pitch. He really does have a nice change-up. It's in the low-mid 80's, but it moves like a sinker, just like Beckett's. it's all a question of confidence for penny Beckett certainly doesn't have a problem with his confidence :lol How do you know if Penny is confident or not??

And we all know he isn't as confident as beckett
January 11, 200422 yr I like Maddux coming to Florida. That would let us leave Burnett in the pen the whole year like St. Louis did with Matt Morris after coming off Tommy John surgery which would probably be the best scenario for him. And we would not move Willis to the pen so he can be a lefty specialist. You do not convert good young pitchers with potential to a specialist role in the pen. Rotation with Maddux: Beckett Maddux Penny Willis Pavano As for Mondesi I think he would be a good signee except I'm a little skeptical of his batting average last year with men on base its terrible. Its in the .180 range.
January 11, 200422 yr And we all know he isn't as confident as beckett How many people are? That what happens when you play around with batters in high school... i remember hearing an article about Beckett laughing on the mound and jsut toying with batters... a 98mph fastball and a huge curve also helps.
January 11, 200422 yr And we would not move Willis to the pen so he can be a lefty specialist. You do not convert good young pitchers with potential to a specialist role in the pen. I don't think anybody has even given a slight thought to that ever happening. Rotation with Maddux: Beckett Maddux Penny Willis Pavano Pavano will be the fourth starter over Willis. They're going to keep Dontrelle in the five hole so expectations do not seem too high.

I put Willis in the 4th hole just to balance our rotation and put a lefty in the middle but your right they might put Willis in the 5th hole to ease the pressure on him.
January 11, 200422 yr Oh well we probably will sign someone. the only player i am not sold on, is choi. So if we could pick up an outfielder then we could move Conine to first. Remember that Mondsi has maybe the best arm in all the land...
January 11, 200422 yr Remember that Mondsi has maybe the best arm in all the land... that guerrero guy :banghead x 1,000,000,000,000,000
January 11, 200422 yr Remember that Mondsi has maybe the best arm in all the land... Naw relax, where did you leave Vlad Guerrero, Ichiro, etc
January 11, 200422 yr Author I would bring AJ out of the bullpen way before Pavano, AJ is not going to be nearly as effective as he was before the injury/surgery. As far as Pavano, he was our most consistant pitcher all year and he was only 2nd to Beckett in postseason greatness. On a good day, I'd put him above both Maddux and Penny. I do see Maddux moving up as our #2 pitcher tho, i just put him at #4 because its only the right thing to do after the great postseasons of Pavano and Penny. That was just the proposed opening day roster.
January 11, 200422 yr Remember that Mondsi has maybe the best arm in all the land... Naw relax, where did you leave Vlad Guerrero, Ichiro, etc Don't forget Jose Guillen. Damn, the Angels have one helluva defensive, and offensive outfield (if Jose can keep this kind of production up).
January 11, 200422 yr Just say NO to Maddox, he is done... Well I'll say no to Maddox but I will continue to say yes to Maddux.

January 11, 200422 yr Maddux could add a ton to this team, but clearly this team is deficient offensively. we need a #3 hitter! You can not take away pudges clutch hitting and expect this team to perform as it did down the stretch. It may be wise to wait til a great hitter becomes available between now and the start of the season ( or even the trade deadline. It might make sense to sign maddux and deal pavano or penny for a hitter. I know cinci and texas need pitching and have great young hitters. (showalter loves penny). In addition, The chisox are looking to trade hitting for pitching (magglio). Magglio has one year and 14 million left on his deal, that is similar to the one year 13 million we supposedly offered vladdie. Just some thoughts/
January 11, 200422 yr Here are two more important questions with Maddux: 1. Does he want to play here? 2. Will he take a 1 year deal? I don't really see him knocking down our door, and if he's going to take a 1-2 year deal instead of the 4 he wants, I see him going where he wants to play (Chicago, San Diego) instead of here. I think that the two guys we should target instead are El Duque and Sauerbeck. We could easily get both for the cost of one Maddux.
January 11, 200422 yr we need a #3 hitter! You can not take away pudges clutch hitting and expect this team to perform as it did down the stretch. Umm... Are you an idiot? Jeff Conine? MIGUEL CABRERA!?!? Those are two very capable players of hitting in the third spot. Both can hit to either field, have pop, drive in runs. Miguel is just as much, if not more of a prototype number three hitter than Pudge is, because he brings so much more power to the table than Ivan. And he's also clutch, hence the nickname given to him by mwua, "Kid Clutch."
January 11, 200422 yr mondesi I don't know but definetely bring in maddux and saurbeck. that would be great.
January 11, 200422 yr mondesi I don't know but definetely bring in maddux and saurbeck. that would be great. Maddex wants way to much, if we get him well be over the 60M budget and not to mension we wont be able to get sauerbeck or more other bull pen help.
January 12, 200422 yr You can not take away pudges clutch hitting and expect this team to perform as it did down the stretch Pudge in the regular season was about as clutch as Derek Lee
January 12, 200422 yr Maddux for 7 mil They're saying he'll take no less than $11 Million, but so did Pudge Rodriguez. I think he'll end up somewhere for 2-years $18 Million.
