Howard Dean:"''YAAAAARRRRHHHH!!!!!&qu

I hate politics in this country. All we ever talk about is "Oh we have to be more united" bla bla bla. But then we turn around and fight over this presidential candidate and that candidate and how much the democrats/republicans suck....yada yada yada. All it does is separate us more and more. :(

Dean turned me off when towards the end of Iowa, I still like him but Edwards is the true american success story.

since when does being a millionaire personal injury/medical malpractice attorney typify the "true american success story"?

Your views on a lot of things also hinted that you were a republican

LMAO!!!!!

That is the funniest thing I have heard all day.

Son of a textile mill worker and a postal service employee, first in his family to earn a college degree, etc, etc...

I don't see why everyone is so uptight about this. All the guy was doing was motivating his people, and (by the sound of it) it worked. That room was whipped-up into a frenzy despite finishing a very disappointing 3rd.

I was a Kerry supporter from the beginning, but when I was listening to Dean give that speech; I was getting pumped-up, too. I thought it was awesome. I like Dean a lot more than I used to since he gave that speech.

If giving a speech like that makes Dean "unstable", then at least 3/4 of the sports coaches (pro and amateur) as well as a hell of a lot of motivational speakers in this country are unstable. A corporation would pay someone like Dean $50k for a day to do what he did on Tuesday.

thank you!!

i loved that speech.

unfortunately, lots of voter research found that it turned off a TON of people, especially women and older people. a lot of people noted that they feel more negatively toward howard dean after his speech, and i believe it. i think the perception of him as crazy, angry, and unelectable (unable to beat bush) comes from the intense media attention to that sound bite. pretty much 98% of the time i see that clip (yes, i've seen it more than 50 times total and more than 10 times these past 2 hours on msnbc), they only play a portion of the clip. if you watch the extended clip, you see that he is totally trying to have fun with the crowd of 3500 primarily college students. he only builds up to a shout for about 20 seconds in that speech (the only part they show), and after his squeal he turns around and starts laughing with tom harkin and then with the rest of his crowd. the guy was laughing and smiling. to me, it looked like a non-angry guy trying to have fun with a crowd... i don't see how people perceive him to be angry or unstable in that speech.

it drives me nuts that every major news network has political analysts saying, "dean has no chance now." believe it or not, this stuff impacts the way people judge his ability to beat bush, and it especially affects undecided and swing voters who aren't passionate about any candidate.

the media has now dubbed john kerry the "beat bush" candidate, which is fine if you don't give a rat's ass about the deficit and you want another 4 years dictated by foreign policy, this time by a career washington politician (special interests, anyone?). if i were a registered democrat, i'd vote for dean in the primary. :thumbup

bottom line....

if dean is able to tap into Gen Xers and Yers that never vote......

He has a damn good chance to win. This demographic largely has been ignored and felt that they have no say.

Then people rip Dean for basing the Internet for so much of his campaign...do you think he was stupid when forming his campaign?

Bottom line...Dean doesnt come off as your typical boring politician.

The old people need to get a grip and stop being so stuffy....

I dont know what porportion of women were affected by that speech...as just saying 'women' in this day and age is extremely vague.

Personally I am tired of having politicans harp on Medicare and Social SEcurity like never before seen.

I will never see Social SEcurity. Medicare is so far off from me that I really dont care right now. But yet the vast majority of politicans spend so much time catering to this older demographic that its just riduclious.

Dean's speech will not hurt him in the long run, I sincerely believe that.

The media is a bunch of crap anyway and anyone that had a sliver of intelligence would realize this.

THANK YOU....to the 2 or so people in this thread who aren't making a big deal about the scream or whatever. Really, I don't see what everyone's making a fuss about. He was just trying to give a pep talk (although it failed horribly). I would hope that a speech like that doesn't turn voters away. Everyone just needs to relax a little bit and stop overanalyzing everything.

I like Dean and Edwards the best. I despise Kerry more than you can imagine.

I'm sticking with my statement that Dean and Edwards are the only 2 candidates that can beat Bush.

a doctor and a malpractice attorney on the same ticket!

ha!

like i'd ever live to see that day

Actually, the only reason that I really support Kerry is the electability issue. I like Dean on most of the issues, but the gay rights thing is a huge problem. He never should've made that a cornerstone of his campaign, especially when 1. there are no Republican alternatives for gays and 2. it's an issue that people (outside of the NE and California) generally don't give a crap about. That will, without a shadow of a doubt, kill him in the midwest, and guarantee Bush's victory over him.

The only ticket that's going to beat Bush, guaranteed, is John Kerry + Bob Graham. Between Kerry's war hero status, and Bob Graham's longtime service on the Senate intelligence committee, they pretty much neutralize the only thing Bush has going for him (security and national defense). This would force Bush to address his shabby domestic record.

Kerry is just another Massachuesetts Liberal.....

It's gonna take more than that to beat Bush.

i think he's got a point.

on a presidential ballot, i'd pick dean over bush, and bush over kerry.

if kerry had graham, i'd probably pick kerry/graham over bush/cheney. of course i'm biased since i'm from FL...

How does that make him different from a Vermont liberal like Dean?

That's exactly why Bob Graham needs to be anyone's Vice Pres. The guy's got the national security thing going for him, and he can deliver Florida - which the Dems have to have to beat Bush.

How does that make him different from a Vermont liberal like Dean? Most people are a lot more tired of Massachuesetts Democrats like Kerry.

Plus, Kerry is B-O-R-I-N-G when people like Edwards and Dean bring energy to the table.

And btw, I think Dean got WAY too much criticism for his primal yell, even though it was funny. I have no idea why him getting excited means you can't elect him.
