  1. Castro + Redmond > Pudge As much as I didnt agree on getting pudge last year, and blah blah ... and getting rid of him for being expensive and blah blah there is NO WAY in this earth that Redmond + Castro are better than Pudge ... not in one aspect of the game ohh yeah maybe money wise ... besidest that, theres nothing. ( Redmond + castro ) X 4 = Pudge yeah Castro might equal the offensive production of Pudge number wise ... but hes not gonna have a .375 avg with MISP... and none of those two have the defensive qualities that Pudge had (even though, the man had a sub-par defensive year) Money is not an issue in my statement Defense is not an issue in my statement Castro and Redmond = Pudge offensively For all the hitting Pudge did with RISP, he did plenty of GIDP. People with short memories tend to forget this fact. Ramon had a clutch bomb today, didn't he? Despite his horrendous base running, Red came up with some knocks to set things up. They won't have huge RBI totals because that isn't there role, but Pudge hit in the 3 slot most of the year and had pretty bad RBI totals for that spot. Mark it down. Ramon will catch fire, and everyone will forget Pudge. Oh btw, all of one person has managed to steal bases off our tandem this year, Furcal. And that was with the weaker armed of the two catchers in there. Pudge was the third best offensive catcher in baseball last year behind 2 guys who had career years. Do you truly believe that Redmond + Castro = the 3rd best offensive year for a catcher in baseball?

Ordonez is the better hitter (He was 16% better offensive player last season), Beltran is probably the better all around player. I'm not sure who I'd take. I certainly don't think you would be a homer for calling Ordonez a better player, magglio. I also don't agree that Beltran is the second best player in MLB. He's very good, but he's not THAT good!
  3. Let's take this a step further and compare the stats of the players Mays660Bonds says are better than Ruth to their competition when they played. Ruth career OPS+ - 207 (#1 all-time) Bonds OPS+ - 179 Mays OPS+ - 156 (T-20th all-time) Aaron OPS+ - 155 (22nd all-time)
  4. Or Admin Bird was popular because he was white. And Sammy Sosa's public image is still relatively untarnished after corkgate, steroid, and charity controversies because he's latino (with black skin)? Sammy Sosa can deal with the media, Bonds cannot. It is totally absurd. I said it once, I'll say it again. Racists like that jerk from espn and maybonds660 make dumb people think that when blacks face adversity, it is purely because of their skin tone. In today's society this is totally absurd and all these people are doing is reinforcing and absurd inferiority complex. It is terrible for society. Bonds is a douche, green, purple or orange, now let's be done with it. I completely agree. Mays660Bonds' statements and the picture he made in his signature line are ridiclous. He is being terribly narrow-minded and is spreading his narrow-mindedness all over this board. It's like he can't think of any other reason people would hate a black athlete other than racism. He can't possibly fathom that while people do like other black athletes, they don't like Barry because he is a jerk and a cheater. Personally, I think it's articles like the one written by the ESPN writer that make racism persist in America. He has no factual evidence that people hate Barry because they are racist, yet writes his very arrogant article like that is the reason why everyone who hates Bonds hates him. I totally agree with you that it is not the people who hate Barry, but the ESPN author and Mays660Bonds who are the racists.
  5. Mays660Bonds, People call Babe Ruth the best player of all time because the statistics show him to be the best player of all time. Take into account era or whatever, and he still is. Aaron isn't a better player than him just because he has more HR. Bonds isn't a better player than him either. That's not based on race - it's based on stats, something you were clearly ignoring when you made your statement that frankly has NO CLAIM whatsoever. And what makes Ruth's home run totals so impressive is that when he played, not many players hit a lot of HR. Back in the day that Ruth played, his home run totals were bigger than some team's home run totals! I really think you are looking to make this a racial issue when it isn't one at all. Barry is a jerk and wouldn't be liked if he was black, white or purple. It has nothing to do with his race; it is his personality and the fact that everyone thinks he's a cheater. You have NO BASIS for stating people don't like Bonds beacuse he is black. Plenty of black athletes are loved in America. Bonds' personality is what keeps him from being liked by the public and the media.
  6. I just knew it was a matter of time before somebody played the race card. That's a load of crap. The reason people don't like Bonds is the fact that he is a jerk and the fact that he has so many connections to the steroid scandal. How can you like someone who makes no effort to be nice to the media and looks like a cheater? I'm sorry but thre are MANY black athletes that are embraced in America. BTW, more attention was payed to Mark McGwire because he is the one who actually set the record!!! All season long, he had more homers than Sammy, why wouldn't he receive more attention when he was the more likely of the 2 to set the record? That only makes sense.

same guy caught 661 that caught 660. crazy... He's going to be a very rich man soon ...
  9. if anderson is worth 12, bonds is worth about 40 Bonds had only 90 RBIs in 2003, GA got Bonds beat in RBIs! BTW GA only makes $ 6.2 million in 2004 while Magglio Ordonez is making $ 14 million. RBI isn't a good stat to use to indicate offensive production. It's team dependent and dependent on where you hit in the order, and it fluctuates from year to year. Bonds blows Anderson out of the water in every stat that is relevent to individual offensive production (OPS etc.). Plus, as people have said, pitchers intentionally walk Bonds with runners in scoring position. Still, a good move for the Angels. Anderson is a very good player. The Angels look to have a good offense for a while.

Robertson had 7 K over those 4 innings. He was nasty. Last year his stuff didn't look nearly as good as it was tonight.
  12. In order to make a list throughout the season of what I think Joe Torre is doing wrong ... Does it even matter? The Yankees are practically an all-star team, even a mistake by Torre won't be a big deal. I think you have some great points on the lineup though. BTW, I know this is minor, but what happened to Travis Lee? Did he get sent to the minors?

Looking at the team the tigers could be close to a .500. but there is a downside. knowing all the free agents they are signing for lots of $$$. if the tigers kept doing things over the next couple years maybe the 97 marlins story will repeat in 2007. dombrowski sold off a good team before after signing high priced free agents! dombrowski is a grade A loser GM. thats is why i respect billy beane and the other GMs like beinfest that put a good team on the field with litte money. 1) There's no way this team will be .500. The pitching is terrible. 90-100 losses this season is my guess. 2) The team will not have to "dump" contracts. Every contract we have except one goes off of the books in the 2004 or 2005 offseasons. We actually have flexability there. And this is not a small market team. The reason payroll is low is because the team has been absolutely terrible for ten years so attendance is low. If the team can improve, more fans will come to the park, and more revenue will equal a higher payroll. That's why the front office spent the money they had come off the payroll this offseason - so they don't alienate every single fan theyb have with another historically awful season. Fans will support a winner (the Red Wings and Pistons have great attendance) but I can't blame anyone for not going to watch this crappy product. There's not much to get excited about. 3) There is no way Dombrowski is a "Grade A Loser GM." As others have said already, he was a big part of assembling that World Champion team you guys had in Miami last season.
  14. benetiz and urbina are extremely similar. You're right. That's why Urbina had an ERA+ of 160 last year and Benitez had an ERA+ of 145. That's like me saying Barry Zito was equal to Roy Halladay last year. It's not really close. You're only saying they are similar because Benitez is on your team. urbina and benetiz are both on the second tier of closers, which is occupied by many, many names. numbers dont tell the whole story all the time. jeez. ya i am saying they are similar cause benetiz is on my team.... I never claimed that Urbina was a first tier closer. He's not. But for you to say the "numbers don't tell the whole story all the time" is a cop out because you are wrong that they are similar. You can't claim that park adjusted ERA is wrong or biased. The numbers don't lie.
  15. benetiz and urbina are extremely similar. You're right. That's why Urbina had an ERA+ of 160 last year and Benitez had an ERA+ of 145. That's like me saying Barry Zito was equal to Roy Halladay last year. It's not really close. You're only saying they are similar because Benitez is on your team.
  16. He's not a Marlins fan He's a Twins fan, I know. The Twins were a pretty bad team very recently as well.
  17. Good trade for the Braves. I also liked the Cruz trade for them.
  18. Wow, Ugy and Pudge back together, how sweet. Not. The Tigers will always suck, no matter what. (watch now that I've said that they'll beat the Twins and Royals for the division) Dude, wasn't your team the laughingstock of the league a few years ago? But you got better. No team stays bad forever. We won't win many games this year, or next year probably, but that doesn't mean we won't win in the future.
  19. Is Detroit just trying to get Marlins from last year and hope that this will bring them success that they cant have. The Cubs are doing the same thing look at all the former fish on that roster. Gosh, and here I was under the impression that the front office didn't care what team the player previously played for and just focused on signing guys that improve our team (after all we did sign some non-former Marlins). Thanks for setting me straight.
  20. No matter how many winners you can recruit to your team, Detroit will always be a loser Always? That's a pretty dumb statement to say our team will always be a losing one. Sure, we will be bad again this year, but that doesn't mean we will be bad forever. We've won in the past so your statement was pretty dumb. It's would be like me coming on your message board a year or two ago and saying "since the Marlins have only had one winning season in team history, they will always be losers."
  21. can we get Matt Anderson now? You can take Anderson and his 4.7 million salary. He was sent to the minors because he's pitching absolute batting practice. He had an arm injury and since then he's lost his velocity and therefore his effectiveness because he has no idea how to pitch. He's horrific. We needed Urbina because our bullpen was getting shelled in ST (we still need to get at least another stater too). Hopefully, he can be dealt for prospects in July.
  22. His career could be pretty much over. He obviously has some serious issues.
  23. I feel sorry for the guy. Even if the Tigers win 20 more games this year, they'll still lost over 100 games! I'm not trying to nit-pick here, but if the team won 20 more games than last year they would be under 100 losses. Still absolutely terrible, I admit.
  24. I agree with Soriano. They should have tried to keep Tejeda instead of Chavez. Well, I'm a huge Tejada hater. He's pretty good, just not awesome. Oakland should of at all costs kept giambi, even if ti meant a no trade clause. Oakland fans should stop crying about losing their stars, all that matters is making the postseason. As a fan, I iwsh for my team to get better (within reason) and signing chavez for 11 million is too much. i agree, tejada is overrated. chavez is a safer investment if you ask me. all they need to do is keep the big 3 together and a managable offense (like the marlins..... hehehe) and i think they will eventually stop choking in the playoffs I agree. Chavez is a much better investment than Tejada. Chavez is making $11 million a year to Tejada's $12 million a year for the same amount of years, and he is a better player. He posted an .864 OPS last season and holds a career OPS of .848, while Tejada posted an .807 OPS last season and has a career .791 mark. I personally think Tejada is the most overrated player in baseball. I don't think his production is even worth $9 million a year.
