1. Environment. A lot of damage to the environment is permanent, the economic effects are short-term. I believe we as humans have a duty to think how our actions will effect our children and future generations before we make decisions for short-term gain.
2. No I did not enjoy the all-star game. Buck and McCarver are terrible. I can't stand listening to them. Plus, after the top of the first inning, there wasn't really any question which side would win the game.
3. I think Graves is kind of overrated this year, he's just racking up the saves without being especially dominating. He's the Braden Looper of past years with more chances. 445018 Agreed. He's only viewed as great because he has gotten so many save opportunities. I don't think he should be at the game.
4. The only problem with Pudge's CS numbers this year is that he catches Jason Johnson and Jeremy Bonderman. They were the 2 easiest pitchers to steal off of in the AL last year, allowing a combined 57 stolen bases in their starts (and Johnson was with the Orioles last year, so it wasn't our catcher). The problem is teams are for the most part only running on Pudge when these 2 are on the mound. And teams get such good leads off of these 2 pitchers, because they are so slow to the plate, that he really doesn't have a chance to throw a lot of the basestealers out.

I will say Pudge. I had a tough time deciding between him and Guerrero though. I had to go with Pudge in the end because a catcher leading MLB in batting average is just amazing given the defensive demands of the position.
7. Congrats to him! He deserved it.

I think Ortiz is the MVP, but I am biased. 434497 He has been great too. It's hard to say at this point because there are a lot of deserving players.

At least Pudge is earning the $40 million he sold his soul for. Good for him. 434440 Sold his soul for? He gets paid to play a baseball game!! How you equate that to selling his soul, I have no idea. BTW, the Tigers are only 2 games under .500 and within 5 games of first place. With all of the close games they have lost this year (over 2/3 of their games decided by one run), they could easily be over .500 and in first. There's no dominant teams here in the AL Central. 434474 Man, you need to show up more. Pudge has been huge, along with Guillen at SS. Dombrowski = Executive of the year. 434488 I agree. It's really amazing that last year the Tigers probably had the worst offensive catcher and shortstop in the big leagues and now they have the best. As of right now, both should be MVP canidates (although I think Vlad is the MVP at this point of the season). He did a great job with those 2 acquisitions. I'm glad he got Guillen re-signed at a reasonable price as well.

11. eh, juan gone hated it in Detroit. no surprise here he wasn't enjoying himself and no surprise you hate him too because he turned down an ass ton of money to play in Detroit the next year. Juan needs to reinvent himself. he just keeps to himself, he isnt a cancer. His career is winding down and he just wants to be happy. I think he'd be a good fit on the marlins, especially with the large latino base on the fish. he is an rbi machine too. but this is just my opinion. to each his own I know KC fans who think Juan is a cancer too. Earlier in the year he made negative comments about their pitching staff to a newspaper. That couldn't have gone over too well in the clubhouse. The fans also didn't like the fact that he acted lacksidasical on the field (before he was on the DL) and let balls that should have been caught drop in for hits. You are correct, though. I dislike him because of his attitude while he was in Detroit. However, I am really, really glad he turned down the contract to stay in Detroit because that would have been more payroll the team would have bogged down in players who are on the DL or not performing well.
12. Tigersfan and others, would you stop with the 'good old days' bit? Pudge is not with the Marlins and he ain't coming back. To continue to argue what impact Pudge or any former Marlins may have had this year is pointless and only serves to bash Loria and Beinfest and/or hype said player by remembering his feats and forgetting his faults (again, for a player such as Pudge and a team turning it around like the Tigers there's no need). That's not what I was doing. I just thought your statement was incorrect. You point to the Marlins team as the reason for his success, ignoring the fact that he is a great player and has had success pretty much every year of his career. His success wasn't because of Castillo, or Pierre or the pitcher's fastballs. That's what I was commenting on. That said, you are correct that he isn't coming back and it's useless to argue about the impact he would have had on your team this year.
13. yea i know.. should be back soon. also, i have a feeling juan would 'magically' feel better if he were on a good team not getting my hopes up though You do not want Juan Gone. He is a cancer in the clubhouse. It's not worth adding a malcontent to your clubhouse to acquire someone whose production is slipping and who is always on the DL.
14. Again let's not use what Pudge has accomplished this year and what Castro hasn't to distort Pudge's impact on the team. He did well at the plate because JP and Luiy were on base and running. He did well behind the plate because our pitchers have good fastballs. He has been the best offensive catcher in baseball this year. His impact on your team would be immense, seeing as you need offense. He didn't do well at the plate because Castillo/Pierre were on base and running; he did well at the plate because he is a great hitter. If you really believe that is why he did well with RISP, how do you explain the fact that he is leading the AL in batting average with RISP this year? He doesn't have Castillo/Pierre this year. What's your reasoning now. He also didn't do well behind the plate because your pitchers have good fastballs. He did well behind the plate because he has a great arm. He actually did better in Texas throwing out runners with pitchers who had lesser fastballs.
15. Boone Signs with Indians Why couldn't the Tigers have gotten him? He's got to be better than Eric Munson, even though he is coming back from injury. I don't think this signing is that big of a deal. There will be others who are better than Boone available in the offseason. Besides, Tram has said Inge is the regular 3B now. Personally, I don't like the move. Munson was just starting to heat up, as he does every June, and Tram benched him for some unknown reason. It doesn't make sense when Pena and Monroe who have been worse than Munson continue to get so much playing time.
16. The Subway series is getting old. I don't think it should necessarily be on FOX or Sunday Night Baseball every time now. It's getting out of hand. I agree. Show some different rivalries for the national games. I couldn't care less about the Yankees versus the Mets.
17. Sure we lost Pudge, but you know what, we lost his many DPs grounded into. We lost his arguments with our pitchers. We lost his bad game calling. So with the good lost, remember the bad. He trailed only Encarnacion in DPs grounded into last year. For a #3 man that is unacceptable. Pudge leads all of MLB in batting average (.372) and the AL in BA with RISP (.453) as a catcher this year. Who cares if he grounds into a few DPs; more times than not, he gets the job done. I see so many comments about his bad game calling, but the Tiger pitchers have had nothing but positive comments about him. 4 of the 5 Tiger starters have much better ERAs than last year. I don't think he has hurt them; I think he has done the opposite and helped them. I'm not trying to be a "Tiger homer," I'm just pointing out that this comment isn't necessarly correct.
18. I think it's safe to say that game had no pitching! I am happy for the D-Rays. They have been losing for so long; it's good for them to finally experience winning, although they can't keep up this pace all year long.
19. You know I gotta go with my boy Pudge at C. .360, 10 HR, 50 RBI That's just team bias, because Victor Martinez is having a heck of a year and is deserving as well. You aren't biased; you are right. Pudge has the highest batting average in MLB (.373) and leads the AL in batting average with RISP. He has a higher on base percentage, slugging percentage, more RBIs and the same amount of homers as Martinez. He also has 6 stolen bases (Martinez has 0). He is the most deserving starter in the AL at catcher. Carlos Guillen is getting no love on this thread, but he's been the best offensive SS in MLB and also deserves consideration for the All Star game, although he certainly won't be voted in.
20. Damn, why couldn't that ball bounce out? LOL, That ball flies out of any other ballpark for a HR. That ball was crushed. It is extremely hard to go deep to CF though because it is 420 feet. I hate how big this ballpark is. And Castillo robbed Sanchez. The Tigers would have had runners on 1st and 2nd with one out, but instead are out of the inning.
21. knotts used to be a marlins minor leaguer, right? anyone remember who he got traded for? He was part of the Mark Redman deal. So was tomorrow's starter Nate Robertson and Rob Henkel who is on the DL right now.
22. Isn't Victor Matinez a rookie? I'm not sure if he qualifies because he got quite a few AB's last season but he's probably leading AL ROTY right now. No, Martinez isn't a rookie. He got too many at bats last season to qualify for the award. You are right; He has been very impressive this year. A great low-round draft pick for my fantasy team
23. no real baseball fan likes the DH. It takes a lot away from the strategy of the game, and it gives the AL an unfair advantage in the World Series. Your post was a joke. I happen to know a lot of REAL baseball fans who like the DH. I happen to be one of them. Just because YOU don't like the DH doesn't mean no real baseball fan likes the DH. That's an awfully arrogant statement. I also don't believe it takes away from the strategy of the game. Who really finds a double switch that exciting? I also don't see how it gives the AL an unfair advantage in the World Series. The NL team uses the DH at the AL park and the pitchers bat at at the NL park. I just don't understand your reasoning there. Perhaps you could explain it to me.
