  1. That makes sense, but knowing the Marlins history it is better to find mediocre talent in scouting and drafting, if they ever find and develop a all star or hall of famer especially they will be gone in a year or 2. but if they can continue to find and develop mediocre talent like mike dunn, badenhop, cooper, miguel rojas, hechavaria, jose urena, berti, and deitrich, and lomo those guys stay a lot longer upwards of 5 years even. just good enough to be mlb players but not too good to be wanted by other teams. so sometimes it might be best to have a mediocre scouting department so u can afford the players u scouted. say bruce wanted to improve the scouting and drafting and even they find great players. u think he would want to pay them the current $400 million market if they turn out all stars and hall of famers?
  2. Couldn't he 'resign for personal reasons' and then go wherever he wanted? And if the new GM wanted a new manager wouldn't they fire Skip? Also it wouldn't be the 1st time the manager of the year was fired right after as well 🤷‍♀️. Say they started 4-6 or something next year and then they can use that as a grounds to fire skip as well, "we had high expectations but choose a different route after a disappointing start to the year".
  3. Has Skip made any comment on this yet? His contract is just thru next year with team option for 2025. I can imagine him going where Kim goes. I think they were close and developed a good relationship together and Im sure Skip is upset with this.
  4. i think they mean the new gm marks the end of the offseason cuz the new gm wont do anything
  5. yea true its their business and their own motives and moves we cant control. they have their own reasons and just as much we care for our team they dont care about us so being a emotionless witness to them may be best.
  6. the problem with the team was shitty baserunning, shitty situational hitting, and shitty fielding. not kim ng. kim ng didnt need another boss to improve the team. the reason they lost wasnt kim ng. it was the fact they couldnt score unless they got 3 or 4 hits in an inning. and hoping sandy recovers as well, he was pitching all year hurt.
  7. Bruce picking up the option while also wanting his own 'restructured baseball operation office' (aka bringing his friends and ass kissers on his money making business) is a cop out. That's just a manipulation tactic to deflect, he knew Ng wouldn't want to report to a new person so to say the 'we wanted her but she chose to leave' is bullshit. They knew the result if they did this, and a lack of a extension is more proof they had no desire to keep her. Skip was Kim Ng's guy so I don't see Skip and Bruce ever being best friends and it seems Bruce loves his friends over anything, so I imagine them making Skip's life hell so he can 'choose to leave' and then Bruce will be like "we wanted Skip back but he chose to leave 😢"
  8. team won in spite of bruce sherman and now he wants to install his ass kissers and friends in the front office. when fans wanted loria gone, they couldnt imagine it can get worse but it can get a lot worse. loria is the dalai lama compared to sherman.
  9. predictable. skip will be gone soon as well. then another merry go round of managers, traded stars, empty stadiums, and another 20 year rebuild.
  10. Im not concerned with Jazz not running 100% every play if it keeps him on the field, Im more concerned with him swinging at pitches in the dirt and taking strikes over the plate.
  11. Of course, and the faster you run it also will exponentially increase the forces on your joints and muscles. So a guy like Jazz who is fast will more often hurt themselves running 100% at 30ft/s than a guy like Stallings running 100% effort at 20ft/s. Throw in the fact Jazz has injury histories and is breaking down often, I can understand why he won't try running 100% every ball in play. Nobody ever did except maybe Matt Treanor and Fortes. The thing thats unsettling is Jazz is still young, his body should not be breaking down like it has. But I was impressed the last couple months of the year he stayed healthy enough to play almost everyday which likely was in part to not running 100% as well.
  12. Of course you can improve your speed. And for slow guys like Arraez they will actually improve much faster than a guy that's already fast. If speed can't be improved then why do football players train for the combine? Why do olympic sprinters bother training at all?
  13. There is a truth here, in that I do feel Jazz trains harder and with more focus than he plays in the game. And it's true his speed is much greater than he usually uses in the game, I think he suffers from the same thing Giancarlo does, he knows if he runs 100% it will pull a hamstring or aggravate his turf toe or inflame his back or something. Jazz got a lot of criticism a couple times for his running effort but I don't think it's cuz he's lazy or whatever, I think he just knows he has injuries that might get aggravated.
  14. Tbh I think this is a blessing in disguise, he is clearly dedicated to improve and will now be forced to focus solely on areas such as hitting and mental aspects of the game. I wont be against even if he goes the Hanley Ramirez route and just gets big and fat and become a lumbering slugger, he gets injured quite often running, maybe his body is telling him to focus on other areas.
  15. Yea true but when your slow as Arraez the initial gains will be much easier with proper training. just between this year and last he lost 0.7 ft/sec, he's not old, getting that back should be attainable, plus more.
  16. Of course it isnt a video game but my point is for Arraez I rather use the offseason time to focus on improving speed than hitting 'barrels' or 'exit velo' or extra homers. Every player I think should have something they want to improve in the offseason and improving that sometimes might take away from the dedication and time they would otherwise spend on something else. My hypothetically analogy wasnt meant to be a actual trade like a video game 'i will trade x amount of power for an equal x amount of speed'. I was making a point that I think it would be better served to improve speed this offseason over hitting homeruns for a guy like Arraez. Heck some players improve both at the same time. 21%ile in speed and 1%ile in fielding range according to https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/luis-arraez-650333?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb .
  17. Any ideas on what players we know will be back next year could work on to improve? I'm thinking Arraez could maybe work on his speed a bit this offseason once his ankle heals. I don't think he needs to be Luis Castillo or Juan Pierre but it would certainly help to have him work on his speed as the leadoff hitter and infielder. But I wouldn't mind even if he traded some or even all of his 10 homers for an extra 1 or 2 ft/sec in running speed. Work on speed a bit, slap the ball a bit more, like Ichiro and Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre, I think would make him even better at the top of the order. His average would go up with the increase in infield hits and could help get the basepaths moving instead of the station to station play.
  18. True but Jazz is Jazz. Jazz wouldn't be Jazz if he took the pitch in the dirt and swung at pitches in the zone. Jazz wouldn't be Jazz if he accepted his flaws and weaknesses. It's kinda scary cuz Jazz has all the personality traits to be an umpire once his playing career is over. Once he is old and grey and can no longer pass for being 'cool' and 'swaggy' he will be perfect megalomaniac MLB umpire that they look for.
  19. When they implement the replay on strikes/balls it will also benefit even more the teams such as the Marlins that use the Brant Brown philosophy of staying in the strike zone.
  20. If Berti isn't the solution at shortstop and more a 'utility guy', maybe Dane Myers can play shortstop perhaps? He played 3B and outfield. He has good hitting, good range, good arm. He's a great all around athlete I remember when Skip started playing him in center during practices when Davis got hurt he said he was impressed how easy it was to go from 3B in the minor leagues to center field. I think the word he called him was a 'freak' alluding to his overall smooth baseball skill and athleticism. I see no reason why he wouldn't be a good shortstop unless he cant field a groundball there. I think Dane Myers is one of the best hitters we had in the minors and proved with his limited time he could hit in MLB, before going in a slump and then never seeing the field again. If not at shortstop I think he earned some playing time in the outfield as well or 3B if Burger gets hurt/needs a day off.
  21. Yes. unless they completely change the roster, its looking like Arraez might move to 1B (Assuming Bell and/or Soler leaves) and then that opens up Edwards to take over 2B. Not a fan of moving Arraez to 1B but if its necessary its not the worst thing in the world. Then they can find a shortstop unless they go with Berti there a whole year which Im not opposed to as well. If they do in fact play Berti (or anyone with any speed) then Skip should do some running, it was frustrating watching the station to station play, needing seemingly 3 or 4 hits in an inning or a humerun to score.
  22. the tall guy who looks like Eli Manning, sometimes you see him celebrating with the team on walk off wins throwing water bottles and stuff.
  23. I like that rotation. Remember the Marlins won in 03 without our ace AJ with Tommy John surgery. This rotation next year looks good, they all will likely be improved. Jesus, Brax, Cabrera, and Eury are all gonna be All Star potential.
  24. Even tho its sad, Im honestly happy for him how at peace he is with this, that he accepted this and finally got a resolution and treatment and he will be back better. Would be interesting to hear his surgeon on the injury, and if pitching with the forearm muscle strain and fatigue he had diagnosed a few weeks before the UCL damage had anything to do with it. I don't think last year had anything to do with it, but this year early on there was signs he wasn't the same pitcher. In April he had the 'tendonitis' and was perhaps pitching all year with fatigue and compromised muscles in his arms that led to this.
  25. Every All-Star's fan club started with a few people with a 'weird obsession'.
