2023/24 Off-Season

1) sandy needs to get some opinions on his arm and just get the treatment asap. no more messing round in bullpen sessions and simulated games. if tj is necessary to get back, just get it over with.

2) i think if soler leaves after this year the marlins can get giancarlo for cheap and with brant brown i think giancarlo can turn it around and get to his old self. i really love this new hitting coach he gives them lots of info and brings out the best, i think a year with big G and we are talking about that all star again. we can get him for cheap and not even pay all of his salary. maybe just half or even less.

3) i just cant see how u dont play edwards. i know berti and arraez and bell and the rest of the infield is solid, but edwards can play anywhere and hes such a great hitter and baserunner and situational hitter, i just think u gotta have him in the lineup. hes a lock in the lineup in my opinion. should be batting second behind arraez in the lineup. i know hes 'old school' cuz he doesnt try to hit homers and takes selfless team first at bats, and doesnt try to impress with exit velo and barrels etc, but u gotta play him.

4) i know de la cruz wants to hit homers and slug but hes such a great hitter with 2 strikes he should use that same approach the whole at bat, he could be a .300+ hitter with some power but he wastes his 1st 2 strikes overswinging trying to hit a homer and its just pathetic. brant brown is a great hitting coach and im sure hes working with him on this, but its really ruining his potential with his overswinging on the early count pitches. either get him to buy into being a contact and singles hitter with occasional slug, or trade him for a starting pitcher

Extend Kim Ng.

Re-sign Bell.

Acquire a starting SS.

Acquire a starting C.

Acquire an innings eating veteran SP who can put up a 4.50 ERA.

Acquire a higher upside SP who can go deep in games and maybe put up an ERA close to 4.00.

Extend Tanner Scott.

Euthanize Avisail Garcia.

Would like to see them make a run at the two young foreign free agents, Yamamoto and Lee.  Lee missed most of the season with a fractured ankle.  Yamamoto is busy dominating the Japanese League yet again.  Both would be franchise changers and potential superstars.  More importantly would build the Marlin brand in two separate countries.  Might be a pipe dream but would be our biggest home run swing ever with two potential international superstars in their prime.

The rest of the FA crop is underwhelming.  Our two biggest positions of need are pretty thin, SS and C.

Wish list:

Extend Kim

Keep drilling patience at bat philosophy.

Strengthen scouting.

Build from ground up.

Improve overall defense.

This sounds right.  The rotation next year is eury lizard brax and then a buncha coin flips that will be on innings limits. If Sandy somehow pitched tho.

they need to improve the OF which has to be bottom third of mlb. DLC is not an every day starter. Platoon him with Jesus and get a positive player.

They need to replace Soler dongs somehow too

Are you offering to personally extend him?

Trade Jazz

Literally the number one priority I think. He’s gonna flounder in mediocrity his whole career not because he’s not talented, but because he is a spoiled diva with unearned gravitas. I hope his atrocious performance in the playoffs gave him a slice of humble pie. Trade him while he has some value!

Well, he greatly enhanced his value by becoming a great CF. I think we keep waiting for him to hit .285 slug .900 and steal 60 bases.  He MIGHT have a random season here or there where he'll really go off but he's honestly not that guy. He plays a great CF though and provides a lot of offense at a position that's typically starved for offense at that position (especially with great defense).

The issues are he's injury prone and also sees himself as a heart of the order thumper and is going to want much more than he's actually worth.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading him but it's NOT happening after the good will the team earned this season and the big rise in attendance for them.

The Marlins will most likely bring back the same outfield because they are a very cheap outfield at the moment.  Don't expect much improvement as they try to up sell the fans on guys like DLC and Sanchez.  Jazz was disappointing this year, but even in his disappointing year, he has better numbers than the other two with far less games played.

Not extend Arraez in this off-season would be a damage to the fan base.

I'd rather hold on to him. His potential far exceeds his current value.

The problem with trading him is, like I said in another post, he doesn't have a ton of value right now. I would rather take the chance of keeping him and hoping he finally stays healthy (lol) and busts out than trade him for a meh package, because that is what we would get for him if we try to move him.

Jazz is only going back to the infield if he can play SS.  I don't see that happening. especially since he's our best outfielder defensively.

That’s more because DLC and Sanchez are very bad defensively. Just is around average tk below average 🤕

I understand the resentment and lack of faith towards Jazz due to his injuries and 'flashy' personality or whatever you want to call it, but he's a great player, great teammate, and we desperately need a player with power and speed. He's proven he's dedicated to improving now. I don't think he's anymore selfish than other players like Soler and DLC who tend to overswing for the fences at times. Regardless of what you think about him personally, they will not find a better center fielder, trading him makes the team worse unless you get a huge haul in return or strike luck with a prospect who turns into Sandy. Jazz is here to stay as out center fielder. If we need an infielder, we literally have an amazing infielder who checks all the boxes offensively, defensively, and baserunning in Xavier Edwards and I don't know what it is with Skip or players who may feel some way about him, but he is one of the best players in the organization and he was riding the bench or in the minors the whole year and nobody seemed upset about that.

Edwards!

3B Burger, SS Edwards, 2B Arraez, 1B Bell (or his replacement if he leaves)

If Bell goes, I imagine they slide Arraez over, or Burger, although outside of yesterday's error he's been serviceable at third. If they slide Arraez over, then Edwards to second makes the most sense. Otherwise, yes, do this arrangement.

Alternatively ... if defense is that important that they preferred Wendle for so long, then give me Nasim Nuñez at short.

Imagine ...

3B Burger

SS Nunez

2B Edwards

1B Arraez

DH Bell

Awww yisss.

I understand Arraez played 1st base with the Twins for a bit but I am no fan of Arraez on first. He is way too small a target, and doesn't have good reach or flexibility. He doesn't help the infielders out at all on 1st base. He can pick it certainly, tho hes no Lewin Diaz or DLee, but Im just not a fan of Arraez at first base due to his size and flexibility. The few games he played this year on first it was clear he wasn't going to help out the infielders with any throw that was less than perfect.
