  1. we should try alfredo at 2nd base?
  2. not while the lineup was fully intact as it is now Because this is probably the most effective lineup we can have while we demand that Uggla hit's 2nd. Olivo's going to be even worse with the pitcher behind him.
  3. WHAT DOES ALFREDO AMEZAGA HAVE TO DO TO HIT HIGHER THAN EIGHTH? WILL HE TOMORROW? He lead off for like 5 weeks.
  4. Wow, I can't believe anyone would actually advocate the signing of Shea Hillenbrand - even at that low price. His OPS+ this year was 62. Sixty two. :| His VORP this season at time of release was 775th out of 785 players. :| It's too bad computers don't play baseball, nerd. Ballplayers do, and Shea Hillenbrand is a ballplayer, goddamnit, not a computer. (I especially like his career .255 eqa [.260 is leage average] and his .199 eqa this year. Let that rattle around inyour brain for a minute. .199.199.199.199.199.199.199.199.199.199 .199 Even when I make it super big it's still tiny)
  5. Fredi Gonzalez is purposely trying to lose games because the owner wants to move the team to Miami. But the ultimate team of misfits is going to band together and win for themselves, not for anyone else, complete with a montage where they slowly undress a lifesize poster of Jeffrey Loria for each win they need to win the pennant. Turning point of the season is when Aaron Boone, the grizzled vet confronts Miguel Cabrera, the prima donna about his lackluster play in the field: Aaron Boone: What I was concerned with was why you didn't come up with that grounder that Rockert hit in the 9th Miguel Cabrera: It was out of my reach, what do you want me to do dive for it? Aaron Boone: Miggy, it could have meant the game! Miguel Cabrera: Oh come on cut the rah rah sh*t Boonie! Year after this I go free agent. Plus me and my agent got a couple of plans for life after baseball. So I am not about to risk major injury or displace this property for a collection of stiffs! Aaron Boone: Ya know Cabrera, I liked you so much better when you were just a ballplayer. If you wanna be an interior decorator now that's none of my business. But some of us still need this team. Now you listen to me! This is my last shot at a winner and for some of the younger guys it could be their only shot. I don't know what happened to you. But if you ever, ever tank another play like you did today, I'm gonna cut your nuts off and stuff em down your f***in throat! All that's missing is Harry Doyle to announce the games. Harry Doyle: In case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't, the Marlins have managed to win a few ball games, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar. (Probably more appropriate last year, but with the "omgfrediislosingtehgamesonpurpose" bit that seems to be catching on, I figured it counts)
  6. I hope Im not getting lumped into the group that believes errors cost us more games than pitching. Cause its far from the truth. But for the record, the way you are presenting your argument, your almost making it sound like errors have NO impact on the outcome of baseball games. How many times does an error lead to a pitcher losing his composure and then subsequently getting off track? (See Scott Olsen) Errors are more than just a number in a box score. I agree they may get a pitcher off track, but really, thats the pitcher's fault. He is a professional athlete being paid a ridiculous sum of money to play a game every 5 days. He should be able to keep himself in the game. And most can. Errors have some impact on the outcome, but not nearly as much as people are making it out to be. The fact of the matter is our pitchers allow too many balls in play, and allow way (way) too many walks, which leads to way too many runs being scored. If they could walk maybe 15% less and k 5% this team would be immeasurably better, regardless of our defensive woes.
  7. I hate Cuban, but would be all for him as the Marlins owner.
  8. I should note that the dodgers are 2nd in errors. This has dragged them down to a 49-40 record and a tie for the most wins in the NL. and? Just pointing out that our 5 extra errors is obviously the reason we have 7 less wings than them. And the Dodgers are just another example of how a team that plays bad defense can never have a .500 record, as numerous posters have said on this board. Or maybe, it's that both teams have a bunch of starts who pitch to contact, which is bound to lead to more errors. The Dodgers just have better overall pitchers, so they can make up for it. We do not have great pitching, which is why the errors hurt more. But to say (again, like many have) that the errors have cost us more games than the pitching is flatout ridiculous. So the average Dodgers fan thinks that if they had even average defense they'd be the best team in baseball? Dodgers fans are dumb. Our team isn't built on defense, either, obviously. It's built on starting pitchers who have all been injured at one point or another. That's 90% of the reason we are 7 games under.
  9. Wow he didn't swing! Nice (rare) walk, Danny. Dan Uggla is on pace for 65 walks this season. Miggy for MVP doesn't pay attention.
  10. personally...i think our defense has cost us more games than our pitching has...thats alot...and not being good at defense is all laziness and will be ultimately why we dont go anywhere this season or any other lololzoolozllol ok.
  11. I should note that the dodgers are 2nd in errors. This has dragged them down to a 49-40 record and a tie for the most wins in the NL.
  12. I voted for Cuban, then forgot that I actually came in here intending to vote for Loria just to see what the reaction would be.
  13. colin cowherd, on the other hand, is probably the biggest blowhard douchebag on national sports radio today. i'd rather listen to a good charlotte cd than hear the ignorant bulls*** he spews. with some of the stunts he has pulled in the past (like when he blatantly stole from the m zone blog and refused to give credit) along with his general lack of an informed opinion it amazes me that he still has a job with espn. bill simmons' calling him out in a column earlier this year was priceless. Seconded. The Simmons mention was absolutely great. Here's another example of things that make me ask "How do these people get paid for their opinions?": http://www.firejoemorgan.com/2006/01/12-mi...in-cowherd.html
  14. Colin Cowherd is crap.
  15. Why didn't Antoine just head-butt him? That would have sent the thief flying into the ground like a whack-a-mole. Why didn't Antoine just head-butt him? That would have sent the thief flying into the ground like a whack-a-mole. lol....could a speeding bullet even penetrate that cranium of his? stay classy, marlinsbaseball.com.
  16. One game will be a huge step forward for FIU. We sucked last year and lost like half of both starting lineups. Woo.
  17. They talk at you all day about a bunch of obvious stuff (if a girl is drunk, don't put it in her, just say no, etc.) and then you sign up for classes.
  18. Pretty good movie. As a huge HP nerd, there were some continuity errors, but overall I liked it. Still think the 3rd movie was the best, though. I picked up a lot of changes from the book, I hate those. For example: Harry never handed the prophecy to Lucius and he didn't hear the prophecy until neville broke it, not when he took it off the shelf. But they don't ruin the movie, or anything. It's hard to fit 700+ pages into a watchable 2 and a half hour movie.
  19. Orientation is the most boring thing in the world. I slept through it. I was down at the school today because I'm working for the Beacon now. Didn't even realize it was orientation though... I'll be there tomorrow too, hope it's not a madhouse.
  20. If we had even league average pitching we'd have like 45 wins (our ERA+ is 90, indicating that we've been 10% below League average. Subtracting 10% of our runs allowed and we are at 402. Our pythagoreon W/L with 424 Runs scored and 402 runs allowed is 45-44 or 46-43 as the number falls somewhere in between those two). Our offense (specifically, Olivo) is not the problem. It's the pitching.
  21. Nicolas Cage is a fine actor, but some of the roles he's been taking lately are baffling. Yes, you're right there but he still was good I felt in the Weatherman and was solid in Lord of War(I believe the title is?). But yeah, I didn't even see Next, and I had the misfortune of see him in two crappy adaptations of things I enjoyed prior to Hollywood getting it's hands on. Wickerman(one of the best horror films IMO), and Ghost Rider. I loved the Weatherman. Thats one of my favorite movies of the last few years. Doesn't try to be anything more than a nice little dark comedy, but Nicolas Cage puts on a great performance. Can I just say I think Gary Oldman is one of the better actors of our time, and he needs some better roles stat. As for Denzel, he's great but he has no range whatsoever. He does "Angry black man fighting for justice" extremely well, but he hasn't really done any roles besides that that have been all that noteworthy. Training Day was one of the worst performances to win a best actor role.
  22. Spinal Tap > Best In Show, though I love them both. As a music fan, you have to love Spinal Tap. So many brilliant references.
  23. Pretty good movie. As a huge HP nerd, there were some continuity errors, but overall I liked it. Still think the 3rd movie was the best, though.
  24. I agree he's not worth all that money for what he does on the field, but he's worth it in marketing alone.
  25. Retarded. Isn't he great folks? Let's give him a hand! Bob, I think Lowell's poor season and a half with the Marlins was due to him tinkering with his swing. I think he mentioned that as well. I don't doubt that that was his excuse for it, but I distinctly remember him having a lot of really well hit balls that just wouldn't fall for hits, and then he couldn't get the bloops to fall for hits either. It was a tough year, but I highly doubt there is any tangible reason for why he was an All Star one year, the worst regular major leaguer in the league and then an all star. It doesn't make sense. It makes plenty of sense... if you think about it Every one of his homerun swings just happen to land a foot or two in front of the warning track that year. If you think about it it may make to sense to you but to me to blame Lowell's '05 struggles on bad luck is ridiculous. Why? What other explanation is there that he simply lost the ability to hit the ball, other than unfounded steroid allegations? There's no logical reason for a players hits to fall a few feet short (because thats all it is, just a few feet difference on about 12 balls and he has his average year).
