Boone apparently reinjured

Of course the know-it-alls and the haters will jump on this but if the excerpt below is true and Boone is out for an extended amount of time consider this - Hillenbrand who yes can be a problem is available for approximately $150,000 for the rest of the season and plays first and third (sound familiar?). He started slowly but his June numbers, pre being released, were .333 with a .368 OPB. He's a career .285 hitter.

The question for him, and the Marlins, is playing time, which if both sides understand its a showcase, could be worked out.

Here's the except:

"BOONE SETBACK - Aaron Boone suffered a setback in his comeback from a left knee injury Thursday. During batting practice at Dolphin Stadium, Boone slipped between second and third and could barely walk off the field...."

He's not my first choice and yeah he comes with a load of baggage but he is an option and if he shows anything he could have value a few weeks from now. And the cost of cutting him if no takers when Boone comes back is practically nil. Crazier things have happened.

Don't they always?

I'll go with you and say i like this idea, it's not a bad idea at all. The only question here would be, how long will Boone be inactive.

Actually, I'd like to see Jake get all the starts anyway

see if he's legit for the future

No issue, but we all know the real loss is in depth. Instead of Boone being the first option, we are stuck with less productive options-not counting Jason Wood (biased), then there is Borchard and Linden and Reed. Yuk.

damn this stinks, i was really hoping Boone would be back sometime this homestand. i just dont like the fact that Shea has been a problem wherever he has been like mentioned before. if were going to look within the organization i say that Val deffinately should get a look at.

I thought he threw a hissy fit because he wasnt starting everyday where ever he was just at

I think we're dreaming if we think we're going to add someone with a name to replace an injured utility player.

I like a lot of the options above. My interest is more rooted in the possible *value* (however slight) of showcasing him and receiving value if he performs well before the trade deadline.

Wow, I can't believe anyone would actually advocate the signing of Shea Hillenbrand - even at that low price.

His OPS+ this year was 62. Sixty two. :|

His VORP this season at time of release was 775th out of 785 players. :|

No thanks on Shea. I was actually excited when the Giants traded for him last season and he ended up doing nothing. And it wasn't his surroundings either. He actually said he enjoyed his time in San Fran. He just didn't produce, like he didn't produce for the Angels... no thanks...

You're just too nintendo generation.

Smart ass. :cool

Maybe we should schedule an exhibition against the Lovely Ladies and use the money to upgrade Hermida's defense and batting points.

Exactly why it is a waste of time to speak about Hillenbrand on this forum

It's too bad computers don't play baseball, nerd. Ballplayers do, and Shea Hillenbrand is a ballplayer, goddamnit, not a computer.

(I especially like his career .255 eqa [.260 is leage average] and his .199 eqa this year. Let that rattle around inyour brain for a minute.

.199.199.199.199.199.199.199.199.199.199

.199

Even when I make it super big it's still tiny)

Now do all you "LOVE" Loria's cheapie payroll, saying "he's smart not overpaying" ? This is what a bargain-basement payroll gets you on your bench.

You really think he would entertain playing with the Marlins ? He is the guy that wrote the "This ship is sinking" on the chalkboard in Toronto last year or 2005, and was released/traded shortly afterwards. How do you think a guy with that mentality is gonna fare in our clubhouse ?
