  1. I think I want to keep him as a closer because that's where he'll do the least damage. You think he would do less damage protecting leads in the 9th compared to pitchign in games we're already behind?
  2. The "funny" thing is I think Sanches is the one that would get the blown save if the Orioles win.
  3. Wow, I'm stunned the overwhlming majority still wants him protecting leads. I'm not. Lindstrom's always been a bit of a board favorite. I would hope that performance would be the driver here and given that among the regular relievers he has the highest WHIP and OPS allowed and even the highest ERA I would think people would be apprehensive about having him protect leads. I guess not.

  5. When Would You Use Lindstrom? Me: Games with a 1 or 2 run deficit
  6. I bet the Marlins would like a do-over from when Girardi sent JJ back out his rookie year after the 45 minute rain delay. Cock sucker. I dunno, man. JJ wasn't throwing 98 before the arm surgery... Can you imagine a guy that's not any good having TJ surgery to see if he gets better. Kids do it a lot, though that's out of ignorance, not understanding that gaining speed is in the rehab program, not in the surgery itself. What do you mean? That kids actually have the procedure when it's not needed? By Dr. Andrews? Not arguing with you, just curious.
  7. I think 40 innings and almost a full run in ERA is a huge difference. I can concede, if Johnson is like top 2 in the Cy Young, All star, gets over 20 wins, loses 5, whiffs 200, saves a child from a burning skybox, has a sub 2.50 era, and pitches an ungodly 240 innings, he gets to $7. This is a very unlikely scenario, and it's rather baffling you expect him to keep this pace. What's realistic is like, 220 IP, 16-8, 170 K, 2.80 era. This is an amazing year. And worth $5 million in arbitration. So after all of that in the end we agree in that if he keeps up his pace he gets $7 million. But what's baffling to me is that you bash me for me expecting him to keep his pace when I've never opined on whether he'll keep his pace or not. Argue with me over what I said, not over what I didn't say. I guess I shouldn't have answered the hypothetical question!
  8. I still don't see how you are completely writing off that he's making so little in year 4, and would have to take an almost unprecedented jump in salary to reach the level you are saying. Big raises are not unprecendented for exceptional performance. Ryan Howard got a $9 million raise. He won an MVP and had like 8 million RBI. We've conceded that if he wins a CY Young and wins a bunch of games this year and is just flat out insane, yeah he might get that kind of raise. But 2.66 and 16 wins probably won't win a Cy Young, and probably won't get him a 5 million dollar raise. Peavy! I think if JJ keeps it up his 2009 season will be comparable to Howard's 2007 season in excellence. I would say even better but I guess you disagree? Either way, both excellent. A 2.66 with 244 innings is fantastic. How many have done that the past 10 seasons?
  9. I think 40 innings and almost a full run in ERA is a huge difference.
  10. Greinke: ERA: 3.47 Innings: 202 Record: 13-10 JJ (if he keeps it up) ERA: 2.66 Inning: 244 Record: 16-2 And you expect this to happen? ctina asked what JJ would make if he keeps it up so I'm answering her question.

  13. They just are not going to raise his salary by 5-6 million in one year no matter how good that year is unless it is historically good. It's not going to happy. You are comparing him going from 1.4 to 7 and Zambrano going from 3.7 to 6.7. It doesn't work like that. Hopefully JJ keeps it up and we'll find out in a few months who is right.
  14. And even so, he's not going to get 7+ mil. Zambrano got $6.5 million on a 3.26 ERA and 223 innings. I think JJ's numbers are better than Zambrano's and should get more money. I guess you disagree. Zambrano was being paid 2.5 Million more than JJ in year 3. How the hell do do you think that won't matter? I believe Zambrano also qualified for Super Two, if I'm reading his salaries right? JJ's situation going into 2010 is the same as Zambrano's going into 2006.
  15. Did you read the article I posted? His 2010 salary will be based almost exclusibly on his 2009 season so his lack of playing time in 2007 and 2008 will have a very limited negative impact on his 2010 salary. I "Polo'd" it. The article was relevant so it was dumb in your part to ignore it. If you care about understanding how this works then I recommend you read it. Lou's post was relevant, so it was dumb on your part to ignore it. Are you kidding me? Seriously, how the hell are you justifying this? He based much of his case on irrelevent issues such as the missing of PT in 2007 and 2008.

  17. Rab... you don't understand how arbitration works. I want to rolleyes you. I guess you're right. I wasn't aware that instead of "he's injury prone" the Marlins FO would just say "awe shucks" when his agent compares him to Zambrano. Dumb.
  18. Rab... you don't understand how arbitration works. Greinke $3.75 < - Post 2008 Wainwright $4.65 Peavy $4.75 Lester $5.75 < - Post 2008 Kazmir $6 Willis $7 (qualified for super 2 though, so this isn't a very fair comparison) Why is he going to get substantially more than any of those guys? He'll have one full season to go on and a bunch of half seasons. He's not going to get a 4.5 mil jump based on one season. Looking at Kasmir, his 4th year he had a 3.49 ERA on 152 innings while JJ is on pace for about 225 innings with a 2.66 ERA. I think JJ should and will get more than Kasmir.

  20. You have to admire that Polo will always be the first one to admit he hasn't read something and yet will continue arguing against you. Why would I keep reading something that's not relevant to the issue being discussed? This isn't the first time you've done that, but how is Looking at JJ, he is making $1.4 million this year. With the year he is having, he may be able to get this to $5 million in 5th year arbitration after the season, but that lack of playing time is really going to keep him down (for this arbitration anyways) from getting some outrageous number not relevant to the issue being discussed? Did you read the article I posted? His 2010 salary will be based almost exclusibly on his 2009 season so his lack of playing time in 2007 and 2008 will have a very limited negative impact on his 2010 salary.
  21. Rab... you don't understand how arbitration works.
  22. I don't think the players are 5 years olds. If they were told about the chnage and ignored it or forgot about it then it's on them.
  23. Did they ask Coglan and De Aza? Were Coglan and De Aza informed by Fredi or another coach about who was going in and who was staying out? If yes, then it's not Fredi's fault.
  24. I'm assuming JJ's agent is not retarded and will use the most favorable comps to make his case. And what comps are those? Zambrano.
  25. You have to admire that Polo will always be the first one to admit he hasn't read something and yet will continue arguing against you. Why would I keep reading something that's not relevant to the issue being discussed?
