  1. Here is how the guys rank in runs created per plate appearance: Ramirez - 0.190 Ross - 0.147 Gload - 0.137 Carroll - 0.133 Cantu - 0.130 Uggla - 0.129 Hermida - 0.121 Baker - 0.120 Coghlan - 0.114 Paulino - 0.108 Bonifacio - 0.093 Helms - 0.093 Maybin - 0.079 Amezaga - 0.066 Using Extrapolated Runs: (.50 × 1B) + (.72 × 2B) + (1.04 × 3B) + (1.44 × HR) + (.34 × (HP+TBB−IBB)) + (.25 × IBB)+ (.18 × SB) + (−.32 × CS) + (−.090 × (AB − H − K)) + (−.098 x K)+ (−.37 × GIDP) + (.37 x SF) + (.04 × SH)
  2. I see Nolasco as a 4.25 type guy... a little better than his career line (4.36). do you even watch when he pitches? The thing is I think every game counts. It's a bad habit I can't break .
  3. I'll just repost something I wrote on the forbidden other board which we cannot speak of here: 'From June 10 on last year, he was around 9 K/9, 1 BB/9, 1 HR/9, and a 2.8 ERA. During his first 9 starts this year, he was closer to his career averages, 7.5-ish K, 2.5-ish BB, but was then way up on HR, 1.67. Then, from SFG to now, he's been at around 10 K/9, 1.5 BB/9, .4 HR/9 and a 1.5 ERA. Over the past 13 calendar months, the 9 starts where he was closer to his career averages is the outlier, and his performance over the last 6 is eerily similar to his great stretch last year, unsustainable HR rate notwithstanding.' his career numbers should matter, but that hr was able to so consistently lift his game above that last year and in his last month and a half indicates he's a far better pitcher than his career rates. His ERA since 6/10/08 is 3.78. If you say he's a 3.78 type pitcher I wouldn't really argue with it although I don't agree.
  4. I see Nolasco as a 4.25 type guy... a little better than his career line (4.36).
  5. I think the rotation is just a bit better than average so I wouldn't call it a strengh. We have one stud in JJ and then four guys that are probably 4.50 +/- 0.50 ERA guys.
  6. The only thing I watch is women's tennis and the Olympics. I also liked when ESPN classic had the original 1990s version of American Gladiators but they took it off.
  7. I think we should keep playing Hermida. As dissapointing as he has being, I doubt Coglan or Maybin would outproduce him this year. Hermida's downside is maybe an OPS around .750. Well, that's Coglans and Maybin's upside. Also, if you keep playing him he might restore his trade value and we can get something for him in the offseason.
  8. Las Vegas but I guess one should go just to see what it is everyone talks about. I went once for two nights and that was enough.
  9. please for the love of God we need to trade hermida. everybody here wants to traded Hermida and love Coghlan I see no difference in their #s they are almost the same. Although Coglan is better defensively and is cheaper to keep I agree with you. The double standard with how they're viewed is unbelievable.
  10. Isn't Dave Hyde one of those guys people always complain about criticizing us and trying to make the Marlins look bad? Am I remembering this wrong? Yes you are.
  11. Sad news about Alexis Arguello. One of the greatest fighters ever. His fight against Aaron Pryor in the old Orange Bowl was an epic, epic match. It was a true knock down drag out fight. Even though Arguello lost by moving up in weight class he was still pound for pound the best fighter of his era. They fought twice. The first was a classic and Pryor suposedly cheated by drinking from a bottled with an illegal substance. The second Pryor won in a one sided fight.
  12. Serena escapes Dementieva and Venus annihilates Safina for another all Williams final. So does this mean tennis rankings are gonna be revamped? When the #1 player only wins 1 game there's something wrong. Yes it was Venus on her best surface but the #1 player should've been able to have a better performance than that. Woman's tennis rankings=BCS. I always root for both Williams sisters to make the final but its anti-climactic when they get there because I don't know who to root for. Venus will probably win. It's not uncommon for one of the Williams sisters to completely overwhelm the top-ranked player. They've done this repeatedly over the years.
  13. Maybin's GB% in June is 52% and that's still really bad unless you're are a Juan Pierre / Willy Taveras type. I hope he'll be better than that! I guess the 52% is not as bad as 67% he posted in May but it's still really bad.
  14. "Boni, even through all the stuff he's been going through ?he comes every day to work and he's getting better," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He's hitting a little over .300 from the right side and he does the little things. He's doing fine. He's one of those guys you characterize as a winner because he'll find something to do during the course of that game to help you win a ballgame." God, this is so dumb, I hate it. The team is 6-2 with him not in the starting lineup. He a winner. Beinfest was on 790 a few minutes ago and basically said the same thing. He likes how Bonifacio keeps his head up and things like that.
  15. Don't have time but Juan Rodriguez has a synopsis in SS. Capozzi might too in his blog. Here's an anomaly I don't get. After Sunday's game Bonifacio's OBP was .299. Last night he goes one for three and it now stands at .298? Does that seem right? Yes because of the sac fly. For OBP purposes he went one for four.
  16. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with public healthcare, but nobody who's against it has proposed a better idea. I'm opposed to it. Nine out of 10 US born persons currently have it so seems to me that it's readily available to almost everyone that wants it and has put forth an honest effort to get it so I would like to know what were the circumstances that led the one out of 10 that don't have it to not have it and then go from there. I don't want taxpayers paying for the insurance of some dude who decided to smoke weed everyday from age 13 to 27 and now can't get a job because he has no skills. I don't think that's fair.
  17. I think Pudge was a given.
  18. I hope this is it... 8 Red Sox.. that's awesome.
  19. Last I saw oposing hitters were batting over .300 against Price... When was the last time you saw? Maybe you should go see now!
  20. Let's be honest. If you had the choice to choose between the Atlanta Braves rotation or the Marlins for the 2009 season, which rotation would you choose? If the rotation stays healthy my guess is from here on out we'll have an ERA around 4.20 which is good but not great. I think the Braves will do better than that the rest of the way.
  21. We all would, but isn't it nice to see such a dramatic improvement? It's nice to see the improvement but I'm still dissapointed by his '09 performance.
  22. That's an improvement but I think it's a better idea to look at the entire season. I also would prefer if he was hitting home runs.
  23. The Marlins aren't a "good" team, they an average team. If the front office does not make any moves, I can easily see a repeat of last year's standings playing out in the NL East. O.k first off in the Marlins defense, they are a good team. We have the best rotation in the N.L east by far, and more than likely top 3 in the National League. Our bullpen is above average when healthy and not overworked. Our hitting is inconsistent but that happens when you have two rookies on your team and an unbalance lineup. I wish i can manage this team, Fredi is a good coach but he needs to utilize the skills of this team better. The Braves have the best rotation in the division. We're around 11th in rotation ERA.
  24. If he's the equivalent of an .800 OPS neutral defensive RFer then he's our 2nd best OFer and should be playing every day.
