Hermida's Defensive Rankings
It depends what kind of hit it is. A single is worth 0.50 run, a double is worth 0.72 and a triple 1.04 runs.

Hermida's Defensive Rankings
Per the Fielding Bible '06 - 24th out of 35 (this is bad) '07 - 11th out of 35 (this is good) '08 - 25th out of 35 (this is bad) Also, not sure where you got these numbers, but in my book it says he was ranked 21st in '06, 9th in '07, and 13 in '08 In your book, how many fielders did they include each year? In what I posted they included the 35 fielders in each position with the most innings.

Hermida's Defensive Rankings
I'll say 21st out of 35 is below average.. below average drifting towards bad. I meant to edit my previous post but I can't edit anymore. Both UZR and plus/minus are based off that 0 = dead average. You can say good/bad based off qualified innings/starter/whatever, but based off every RFer, you go by 0 = average. If you add the runs saved of the 35 fielders in each position that they list, the runs saved don't add to zero.

Hermida's Defensive Rankings
Hermida's biggest problem, and Nny had posted an article detailing as much somewhere, is that Hermida's biggest weakness is that he gives up a lot of XBHs. This is HIGHLY negated by playing in LF, where, because Fredi deems Coghlan to be a better option there (than say, IF... the kid's natural position) , Hermida can't play/learn the position. But, when it comes to getting to balls, in his career, he's ranked an average of 16th overall in RF. That being said, he's got a plus arm, and below average RF range, making him an ideal LFer, but that 'experiment' got nixed. I don't know what Nny wrote but I think he struggles going back on balls and coming in on balls. I guess in theory playing LF in Landshark stadium should negate some of his issues because he would have less ground to cover going back on balls but his UZR/150 in LF was horrific. It was almost as bad as Dunn's and worse than Coghlan's and Coghlan has never played the OF.

Hermida's Defensive Rankings
He has played more RF innigs than the majority of the the 35 players he's being compared to in the three year period from 2006-2008 so I think if innings were taken into account and "runs saved" were converted into a rate stat as opposed to a counting stat I think he would be lower than 21st. I don't understand why this is hard to understand.

Hermida's Defensive Rankings
For the period from 2006-2008 the Fielding Bible ranked him 21st out of 35. I think this is "bad" and this is ignoring the numbers of innings played during the 3 year period. If the numbers of innings are taken into account I'm sure he would be lower than 21st. He would be no 'worse' if he ranked 30 out of 50 or 42nd out of 70, or something. I'll say 21st out of 35 is below average.. below average drifting towards bad. I meant to edit my previous post but I can't edit anymore.

Also, +/- has him at average or better for his career. They have him as bad for 2 out of 3 years so what you said, if true, is very strange and leads me to question the validity of the stat.- 6/9 Post Game
Just to show I'm not a "hater," I'm going to vote for Emilio Bonifacio. Hermida hits the HR, but Emilio got the first 3 RBI's of the ballgame. He also wasn't the one looking foolish defensively, tonight. I'm not sure if that ball was catchable, but I'm sure Hermida didn't have to look as bad as he did, in doing so. If Hermida doesn't misplay that fly ball the bottom of the 9th probably never comes up. Also, I thought you were in the "RBIs don't matter gang".- Hermida's Defensive Rankings
The Hermida apologists repeatedly say Hermida is a good or an average defensive RF. Supposedly the best defensive stats are the Fielding Bible's "Runs Saved" and UZR/150. One problem with "Runs Saved" is that it's a counting stat so guys who play more innings have a chance to save more runs. We'll use it anyways. So lets see where Hermida ranks each of the past 3 years. For the "Runs Saved" rankings that I found a site that ranked 35 players for each position for each year. That's what I used. UZR/150 allows you to select the minimum innings. I selected a minimum of 650 innings because that's the minimun number of innings I could select so that Hermida would be include all 3 years. Here are Hermida's defensive rankings: Per the Fielding Bible '06 - 24th out of 35 (this is bad) '07 - 11th out of 35 (this is good) '08 - 25th out of 35 (this is bad) Per UZR/150 '06 - 20th out of 24 (this is bad) '07 - 12th out of 25 (this is average) '08 - 23rd out of 28 (this is bad) So basically the defensive stats say Hermida was bad in '06 and '08 and was between good and average in '07. As a whole the stats say he's bad defensively.- Brett Carroll
(note: no words... except these) What does the "Rank" column on the right side represent?- Brett Carroll
The difference in Carroll's and Hermida's defense is worth probably about .100 OPS points and maybe a bit more than that.- Signs of Life?
Depends on the hitter and who is on deck but as a general rule you should only sac bunt in the bottom of the 9th in a tied game. Exactly what I'm saying. When one run is more important than two FINALLY SOMEBODY GETS IT!!! Actually, by percentage of scoring ONE RUN, the only time you should but is with no outs and a runner on 2nd in the 9th in a tied game or behind by one. If that runner is on first, you actually diminish the percentage of scoring the one run by 2%. If you're behind by one you shouldn't bunt. I think the bunt may increase the chances of scoring one run but it decreases the chances of scoring more than one and you need more than one to wint the game.- Brett Carroll
I love how you guys want to dump Hermida. Second highest OBP on the team. We need him. Maybe he isn't going to develop into a longterm option as his prospect status and 2007 season hinted at, but he's the best we got right now. He's not going to not-slug forever either. When bringing up Hermida's stats I love how you left out he has the 2nd lowest SLG and the 2nd lowest OPS on the team. OBP weighs more.I love how you still don't realize actual run production is basically OBP*2 + SLUG, even though we've gone over this countless times. He's out performing everyone except Hanley, Uggla, Cantu, and Baker. He's an important part of the team, even if he's having amazing slugging problems at the moment. This is the formula you need to use: (.50 ? 1B) + (.72 ? 2B) + (1.04 ? 3B) + (1.44 ? HR) + (.34 ? (HP+TBB−IBB)) + (.25 ? IBB)+ (.18 ? SB) + (−.32 ? CS) + (−.090 ? (AB − H − K)) + (−.098 x K)+ (−.37 ? GIDP) + (.37 x SF) + (.04 ? SH)- Signs of Life?

Since May 23rd his WHIP is 3.00 and his ERA is 9.95. Why May 23? That wasn't 5 or 10 games ago, wasn't a certain number of innings ago... Oooooh. Yeah, that was 1 of 2 games where he has given up more than 2 runs and 1 of 3 games where he has given up more than 1 run. Ah, now I know why you picked that date. Very nice work. I'm not an emoticons kinda guy but..- Post Game 6/6

Lindstrom can be the closer in games with 4+ runs leads.- Kiko Calero should be our closer ....
It's dumb to use Lindstrom in the bottom of the 9th to protect a one run lead. It's not dumb to use Lindstrom in the top of the 9th when behind by one run. - Hermida's Defensive Rankings
