Chris Coghlan is an animal
It was a clean play in that it was within the rules but Coglan's and Utley's slides were not at all comparable. Even with his feet planted Aki would be fine if Coglan had slid how Utley slid. But by body blocking him or whatever you call Coglan's slide it increases the chances of these type of injuries by like 823456134756%.

Defensive rankings
I'm not sure how UZR is calculated so I don't know if it's any good but Uggla and Hermida are pretty bad in it as well. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/uzr-tidbits-through-524

Defensive rankings
Cantu surpirises me as well. I don't know if where the players are positioned (by the coaches, I suppose) impacts these stats.

Defensive rankings
I just looked at fielders with "qualified innings". Didn't look at catchers because I'm not sure if these stats are meaningful for catchers. Maybe they are but I'm not sure.

Defensive rankings
Hermida is 13th but I can't edit with the new board format...

Defensive rankings
I just looked at how our players are doing defensively based on a combination of RZR and OOZ. 1B Cantu - 21st out of 27 2B Uggla - 24th out of 26 (ouch!) SS Hanley - 8th out of 27 (keeps improving) 3B Whipping Boy - 10th out of 25 LF Hermida - 14th out of 16 (ouch!) RF Cody - 5th out of 21 ==== RZR - the proportion of balls hit into a fielder's zone that he successfully converted into an out. OOZ - the total number of outs made by a fielder on balls hit outside of his zone.

Forget about Bonifacio folks
I would have gone with Gaby over Boni out of ST so once Gaby is healthy I would give him a shot. I don't know what is meant by a "professional at bat" but I know just about every "professional at batter" is a veteran media friendly white guy who can't hit. Helms had a great game but one game doesn't undo the damage he has done the past 2+ years. I don't think he's good.
-
Forget about Bonifacio folks
I think it should be pointed out that the reason he leads the league in making outs is because the manager is a moron and not because he's the "best" player in the league in making outs.
-
Forget about Bonifacio folks
That's because he has more PAs than others. He has a higher OBP than Ross, Maybin and Fredo and has pretty much the same OBP as Helms and Coglhan.

5/25 Post Game
I think Porter had very little to do with the nice catch. Coghlan still looks very uncomfortable in the OF but seems to be a good athlete and that was an athletic play. Porter has worked with Hermida for years and Hermida would never make such a catch.

Forget about Bonifacio folks
Yes, he's a problem but is one of several problems. The hate he gets is ridiculous.

Giants Inquire on Uggla
I wonder if Morrison can handle the OF. The guy is supposed to be pretty slow.

5/25 Post Game
Very nice catch by Coghlan on that line drive.

5/24 Post Game
If we're willing to put Coghlan in left in order to get his bat into the lineup, why don't we do the same with Gload, who has experience in the outfield, send Coghlan back down, and call Maybin back up to learn major league pitching and play his natural position? Or, of course we could always just play Gload at 3B and bench Bonifacio but we all know that's never going to happen. Or put Coghlan at 3B, Hermida in LF and Gload in RF. I don't think Coghlan has the arm for 3B.

5/24 Post Game
I think Nny meant our players not being overly excited with the walk-off win.

Does anyone know about these places in Europe?
Next year I am planning on going to Europe. I will go to London, Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Rhine Valley, Bavaria, Salzburg, Alps, Venice, Florence, Rome, Greek Isles and Athens. I have traveled to London, Paris and Rome but not the other places... does anyone know any info on the other places? Have you traveled to any of them? Wow, that's quite a trip. A few weeks ago I had to look up stuff on Belgrade and Kotor and wikipedia was very informative as far as history, general information and main attractions. I would start off looking in there.

5/24 Post Game
Just me or do our guys not seem that excited with the walk off win? I noticed the same thing.
- Call me crazy- Call up Stanton

Miami Herald: Loria wants changes?
I think Uggla has more than "OK" trade value but Cantu, Cody and Jeremy have less than "OK" trade value.

The Most Preposterous Things Said From Baseball People
I think he does their games on the radio but not sure. The ones I was talking about are Kuiper and Krukow on TV.

Why is everyone blaming Wiley and not a single word is said about the hitting coach? I know Nolasco blew up yesterday, but to me, the awful hitting is just as much to blame for this 8-23 streak as the pitching...maybe moreso. All I see are players not making any adjustments and striking out waaay too much. I'm not a big believer in putting a ton of blame on coaches, but someone has to take the fall for this team's awful play...the hitting coach seems like a good place to start. Boni, Maybin and Coghlan are the primary causes for the poor offense and Beinfest, not the hitting coach, deserves the blame for having Boni, Maybin and Coghlan in the lineup. I think uggla has certainly had a primary role in our offensive struggles. Ross hasn't been so great either. I agree Cody and Uggla have underperformed but their numbers are not atrocious like those of Boni, Maybin and Coghlan. So Cody and Uggla deserve a little of the blame but the overwhelming majority of the blame belongs to the guy (Beinfest) responsible for putting Boni, Maybin and Coghlan in the lineup.

The Most Preposterous Things Said From Baseball People
I just watched a video of David Eckstein faking catching a fly ball that he lost in the lights so he could get the runner on first....the announcers proclaimed that it's the reason why "David Eckstein is one of the greatest players to every play the game of baseball." The Padres announcers are in the bottom 5 and his comment is incredibly stupid. With that said, I don't think Eckstein did it on purpose. If he did it on purpose he would have being closer to where the ball landed to be able to make the double play. I was watching on the Giants telecast and that's what the Giants guys said and it makes sense. The Giants announcers are among my favorites.

Nolasco to AAA
Peavy would be amazing but he has a few years left on is contract for huge money so it's not happening... plus we need a 3B and a LF on top of more pitching. The Coghlan in LF experiment is a disaster.

Hermida
Going by runs created, which according to the site correlates the same as XR, assuming same sb/cs/gdp/k/hbp for all of them. over 656 PA (so *4 what hermida has atm) Line 1: 108 singles, 16 doubles, 4 triples, 16 HRs, 104 walks, .263/.384/.394/.778 line = 92.47 runs created Line 2: 97 singles, 25 doubles, 5 triples, 25 HRs, 73 walks, .263/.349/.453/.802 line = 93.05 runs created Line 3: 87 singles, 33 doubles, 6 triples, 31 HRs, 55 walks, .263/.329/.494/.823 line = 94.86 runs created So the third line is 2.55% better than the first line. Also, atleast in this example, 1.4*OBP that Eric used (and I normally use) correlated better than 1.8. So many studies studdies on what proper way to weight OBP though lol. Not sure where you got the singles, doubles, etc. but using those numbers and ignoring IBB, SB, CS, GIDP, SF and SH and plugging them into the Extrapolated Runs formula I came up with Guy 3 creating 6% more runs than Guy 1.
