Call me crazy- Call up Stanton

Featured Replies

We need a real offense. Not Bonafacio, a utility player. Not Uggla trying to win the game with every swing. Not Hermida never living up to anything.

Call up Stanton. What is there to lose? He proved he could hit this spring. I know it would never happen but put Coghlan at 3rd and Stanton in LF (yes he's more polished than Maybin and can hit MLB pitching right NOW) and I promise this offense would be awesome.....

Sorry guys but we need a real shakeup for this team to be good- not a Brian Sanches shakeup. Put Bonifacio on the bench for good. Start Cogs at 3rd and Stanton in left!

1)Coghlan (3B) - Better hitter and better contact hitter than Bonifacio

2)Baker ©- Back to #2 hole

3)Ramirez (ss)- Doing fine

4)Cantu (1B)- Doing fine

5)Ross (CF)- Yes, he's a better hitter than Uggs and will catch fire, end up hitting .270-.280 with 25 HR

6)Uggla (2B)- Needs to improve

7)Stanton (RF)- We need a monster to give this team confidence

8)Hermida (LF)- His patience will pay off in the 8 hole

I know it will never happen, but screw it- Stanton is hitting like crazy in a pitcher's league now. Do it!

That lineup would win some games.

You're crazy.

You just beat me to it.

But yeah, absolute insanity. How bout getting him a couple AB over Single-A?

I don't think some of you realize how good of hitter Stanton is. He's like Andruw Jones or Ken Griffey right now. He can play at 19 in the majors.

Think I'm crazy all you want. I'm just trying to improve our team and get wins. Trust me- he would help. He's like Hanley and Miggy Cabs special.

No!

Its to early for him right now i'd perfer someone else over him. You do not want to psuh him to be a big leaguer when he probably still has many things to learn at the age of 20 in the minors. I'd love to see Gaby Sanchez up to see what he can do and when he gets helathy maybe even Logan Morrison. Remember too that Maybin has been tearing it up in AAA and hopefully brings that back up to the big leagues.

Stanton could however be a good september call up so he can get his feet wet to MLB pitching.

If and only if he gets promoted to AA this season would I even think about him for next year, true he's a gifted athlete, but he's still too young.

Waits for the 2003 parallel threads to start kicking in...

1) Losing record in May

2) The "fire Fredi and replace him with a McKeon type" thread has begun

3) and now the bring up a special young Cabs-type player thread has started

what's next?

wtf is this about? Yes, lets call up a guy who hasn't even faced real competition in the minors yet. Jesus, at earliest Stanton is a call up all star break of 2010, more likely the start of 2011. Rushing our players to the majors ftw!

If you don't think this player gets called up before 2011, you just haven't watched him play or enough baseball.

I have watched tapes of Stanton, I know his talent, but the lack of baseball knowlege on this baseball message board is amazing. He is in SINGLE A, he is not getting called up, period. I'm expecting him to spend the season in Single A, spend half of next year in AA, and if he succeeds there, he has a CHANCE of getting called up. By calling him up early, you are speeding up the arbitration process. Currently we have him under team control, if we call him up, we lose 1-2 years of team control and years that we wouldn't have to pay him top dollar money. Not as much about talent when it comes to calling Stanton up, its being a smart owner as well as knowing not to ruin your young players.

Lack of knowledge? I know the Marlins system and all about arbi clocks. Big deal- it's time to win games. Marlins have never been scared to play for the now and bring people up.

Who's to say the economy even picks up under this socialist President and baseball attendance drops enough where there isn't even a league in 3 years from now? Hell, the NBA already borrowed like $175 million this season because they are down.

This is just a what-if type thread- What IF the Marlins called up Stanton? Well, they would be improved. :)

If Stanton was showing some degree of success at AA, I could see him following the same kind of path as Miggy. As much as I would like to see this guy called up, it is too early yet...

Stanton is far from ready. He is still learning plate recognition and how to be a hitter.

In other words, he is Clark Kent, learning how to use his abilities, he's not Superman yet

Precisely. I like that analogy!

I wasn't aware Jones, Griffey, Hanley, and Miggie all went straight from high-A ball to the bigs.

I wasn't aware of that because they didn't. Outside Griffey, they all had full seasons in the minors, including AA, at 19. Also, Miggie came up at 20, Hanley's first real season (not a cup of coffee) was at 21.

Let the kid see some pitchers that throw breaking stuff more than once a game, then we'll see.

This is how I feel. Words cannot describe this feeling. When will the stupidity end?

Me too

These threads need to stop. :|

I had always thought of Marlins fans as being of above average intelligence and well informed. Some of you have me reconsidering.
