May 21, 200917 yr I would absolutely not even dream of bringing up such a young, inexperienced kid. I wouldn't bring him up even if arbitration wasn't an issue. That said, he's an absolutely unbelievable talent. I'm not an expert on the Minor Leagues as a whole, but I have to imagine that if he duplicates his current line throughout the year, he could be a top 5 prospect in the league, if not even higher. .29/.372/.554 (.926). 8HR projects to 32+ over a full season. This year, he has 36K/16BB. After striking out in 28.3% of PAs and walking in 10.7% of PAs last year, this year (albeit in a small sample size) he is striking out 23.1% of the time and walking 10.3% of the time. So he's basically walking at the same rate, and yet he's managed it improve his K-rate in a pitcher's league and a pitcher's park (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about the league/park, that's just what I thought I've heard on here.). I'm just so impressed with this kid, and everything we've heard about his work ethic has been positive. So psyched for when his time comes, however far away that may be. I'd really love for out outfield situation to be so solid that he can spend full seasons in A, AA, and AAA. That would make him our opening-day starter for 2012, along with Maybin and whoever else. And with what I expect out of those 2, you could practically put Wily Taveras out there and still have a very good outfield.

May 21, 200917 yr De Aza should be given more playing time. He really impressed me in the second game yesterday. They should seriously consider sending Coghlan down again. He is clearly out of position in left field with horrible routes to the ball and except for his late RBI single in the second game yesterday, he has not looked good at the plate either (average .176). Stanton is in Jupiter (single A). I wouldn't even think of him as a possible call up until he is successful in at least the AA level. I think De Asa deserves the starting center field spot for now hoping he can keep his ankle healthy this time.

What is there to lose? He proved he could hit this spring. I know it would never happen but put Coghlan at 3rd and Stanton in LF (yes he's more polished than Maybin and can hit MLB pitching right NOW) and I promise this offense would be awesome..... Sorry guys but we need a real shakeup for this team to be good- not a Brian Sanches shakeup. Put Bonifacio on the bench for good. Start Cogs at 3rd and Stanton in left! 1)Coghlan (3B) - Better hitter and better contact hitter than Bonifacio 2)Baker ©- Back to #2 hole 3)Ramirez (ss)- Doing fine 4)Cantu (1B)- Doing fine 5)Ross (CF)- Yes, he's a better hitter than Uggs and will catch fire, end up hitting .270-.280 with 25 HR 6)Uggla (2B)- Needs to improve 7)Stanton (RF)- We need a monster to give this team confidence 8)Hermida (LF)- His patience will pay off in the 8 hole I know it will never happen, but screw it- Stanton is hitting like crazy in a pitcher's league now. Do it! That lineup would win some games. You keep stating this like it's a fact. Please show some numbers at the ML level this year where this is true. Or failing at that, and you will, explain how moving a guy from the OF that has such lousy offensive numbers to 3B suddenly makes him a better hitter. And bring up a guy that has never left Jupiter? A guy that even in ST never really faced ML pitching in a whopping 13 ABs. Just glancing at his Jupiter stats I would say he is right where he needs to be. Maybe if he can cut down on the Ks and errors there move him to AA by the end of the season.

May 24, 200917 yr I would like to nominate this as over-reaction horrid-bad post of the year I second that nomination. Just forget for one second that calling up Stanton might keep him from learning the essential tools he'll need to be a successful MLB player in the long term. Even if he catches fire in a bottle and experiences early success in the majors right out of the gate: 1) we start his arbitration clock running; and 2) one hot hitter isn't going to do diddly for this 2009 team. We are way more than one good player away from contending...
